Straight men getting Franchaela

source

I've noticed that the straight men reacting to Bridgerton are generally better at picking up that Francesca is attracted to Michaela than some straight women. Just and interesting observation. I like how in this reaction one of the hosts can't help but constantly bring up how attractive Michaela is haha.

How do you deal with patriarchal women?

I was talking to my older relative and she was saying that a man should be "the head of the household" and she wants a man who will provide for her and lead her. She's 40. It's so baffling to me that a grown woman would want a man to rule over her. I told her that I don't believe in any of that but I don't think it really mattered to her. She's fully been indoctrinated into Christian, patriarchal belief systems.

How do you deal with women like this in your life? Do you try to make them at least non-patriarchal? Or do you just distance yourself from them?

Does anyone else not really care about getting married or having kids?

If I find a woman that I wouldn't mind living with and sharing my life with. I'd get married because it makes more sense in the world we live in for legal reasons.

However if I never meet that woman and I just have a series of affairs. That's fine too. Maybe it's because I'm autistic but I don't mind being alone as long as I have hobbies and a few good folks around when I want to socialize.

Never wanted kids.

Is anyone else similar? I feel like the odd person out a bit but according to statistics 25-30% of gen z/millennials will never marry so I can't be that odd.

Why has anti marriage/marriage skepticism completely disappeared from the feminist narrative?

There used to be a lot of criticism of the institution of marriage from feminists and gay liberationists in the 20th century. Bring that up nowadays and people, including feminists and queer people, look at you like you've just grown a head.

But imo any institution that grants more rights to partnered people over individuals is inherently oppressive. Especially to women because most women partner with men.

For those who don't want to get married

Can you explain why? For me personally it's because I don't agree with the institution of marriage. The idea that it should be for love is relatively new and not in line with the original purpose. Which is why I think it has such a high failure rate. It's not natural. Romantic love is supposed to fade out and end. Marriage developed because of the need to pass on land and resources in patriarchal societies.

What are your reasons?

Also please let's keep this discussion on those of us who don't want marriage or who are skeptical/on the fence. Marriage lovers please just observe.

Have you encountered ageism from younger people?

I was having an exchange with someone in a fandom that I'm into and we had a disagreement (this person is Gen Z/early 20s). They ended it by saying that it was pointless to argue with a dumb millennial Auntie and I was a bit taken aback.

I know this is minor in the grand scheme of things and that a lot of Gen Z like to take the piss out of us but I've never had it happen to me directly and as a means to shutdown a conversation. I also felt like I was being talked down to. Something I'm used to experiencing from folks older than me, not younger. It was also especially odd to me because the show we were discussing appeals to a wide range of ages and if anything trends older.

Have you had any ageist comments directed at you for being a millennial.

What do you all think of Prince's collab with Janelle Monae

I really liked this song when it came out, still holds up imo. Wish they did more work together.
