Am I insane for considering this free laptop swap? ‘24 HP Spectre | ‘26 HP Omnibook

I'm going crazy considering this. I need opinions to ease my mind. These are the ONLY options.

Current: HP Spectre x360 16 (2024)
- Core Ultra 7 155H
- RTX 4050 (6GB)
- 32GB RAM
- 2TB SSD (upgradeable)
- 16" 2880x1800 (2.8K) OLED touchscreen
- 2-in-1 convertible
- ~83 Wh battery

HP OmniBook X 16 (2026)
- Core Ultra 9 386H
- RTX 5050 (8GB)
- 32GB RAM
- 1TB SSD (upgradeable)
- 16" 2048x1280 OLED touchscreen
- ~70Wh battery

Main tradeoff
Gain: faster CPU/GPU, 8GB VRAM
Lose: 2.8K display, larger battery, premium feel

Not my main gaming device. Laptop mainly for college notes, media, streaming games, rare 1080p gaming.

Is the RTX 5050 and CPU worth losing screen resolution?

24’ HP Spectre RTX 4050 vs 26’ HP OmniBook X 16 RTX 5050

I currently have an HP Spectre x360 16 (2024) with:

- Intel Core Ultra 7 155H
- NVIDIA RTX 4050 (6GB laptop GPU)
- 32GB RAM
- 2TB SSD
- 16" 2880x1800 (2.8K) OLED touchscreen
- 48–120Hz VRR display
- ~83Wh battery
- 2-in-1 convertible
- Premium all-aluminum Spectre build
- Upgradeable SSD storage
- Wi-Fi 7 / Thunderbolt 4

I’m able to trade in for a 2026 HP OmniBook X 16 with:

- Intel Core Ultra 9 386H
- NVIDIA RTX 5050 (8GB laptop GPU)
- 32GB RAM
- 1TB SSD
- 16" 2048x1280 OLED touchscreen
- 120Hz display
- ~70Wh battery
- 2-in-1
- Upgradeable SSD storage
- Wi-Fi 7 / newer platform

For context, I already own a custom-built $4,000+ gaming desktop from 2020 with an RTX 3080, but over the past few years I mostly play on console occasionally just for convenience anyway, so this laptop is more for college notes/work, media, light gaming, and game streaming rather than being my main gaming machine. I was considering using it for 1080p gaming away from home (stuff like AC Black Flag Resynced).

I’m torn because I know the OmniBook is faster on paper (better CPU, RTX 5050, more VRAM), but I’d be giving up:

- my sharper 2.8K OLED
- the larger battery
- the extra 1TB of storage (though both are upgradeable)
- that premium/luxury Spectre x360 feel

The OmniBook would gain:
- newer hardware/platform
- better gaming performance
- 8GB VRAM instead of 6GB
- likely better longevity for future games

If you were in my position, would you make the swap, or keep the Spectre?

Especially interested if anyone has gone from a higher-resolution OLED laptop to a lower-resolution OLED and whether it actually bothered you in daily use.

TL;DR : 24’ HP Spectre RTX 4050 vs 26’ HP OmniBook X 16 RTX 5050 worth the upgrade for free?
