MAP LAYOUT DEFINITION - INGRAMSPARK PAPERBACK

Hey guys, I'm finalizing the layout of my book and I wanted to know the best way to present a map in the PDF file I'll be sending to Ingramspark. I see many double-page maps and I'd like mine to be like that. Is it just a matter of adding it and they'll print normally? Will the middle be cut off? Is there another way to present it? And how are maps usually presented in books on the US market?

Layout distortion in E-book format

Hi everyone!

I’m using Affinity to self-publish my book, and I’m using an image as a scene break—so I repeat this illustration several times throughout the text. When I ran a test export to e-book format, the image ended up completely distorted (it wasn't centered and the quality was poor). I’m wondering if there’s a way to keep it centered and have it flow with the text—positioned between two paragraphs so it stays "anchored" there and truly looks like a scene break—regardless of the device the reader uses. Is this possible?

Any tips will be helpful! Thanksss

My cover artist is amazing

Hi guys, I would like to share the art my cover artist made for my book!

She's a brazillian artist and is currently accepting comissions ❤️ @bethilustra is her social media.

She's not active on reddit so I asked her for permission to share it with you because, truly, I love it!

Could you help me improve my blurb?

Hey guys I have a blurb for a Romantasy / Dark Academia Fantasy and I would love to receive some critics about it! Feel free to suggest any changes! Thanks a lot!

BLURB:

Airya Shah would rather spend the rest of her life in prison than attend the academy of the nation that conquered her homeland.

Unfortunately, no one asked for her opinion.

Now a political hostage at Arete Academy, she's surrounded by the future rulers of the Republic that destroyed everything she loved. To survive, Airya wants to stay invisible, avoid fighting with anyone, and keep her most secret hidden—one that could lead to her execution.

Until the Academy's most feared student finds out first.

Instead of turning her in, Vanilott Hallotat, the sharp-tongued heir to the Republic's most influential family, accepts a desperate bargain Airya offers.

Their deal is simple.

Every morning, she'll style his midnight-blue hair.

Every morning, he'll keep her secret.

It's the most ridiculous bargain she's ever made.

It might also be her only chance of making it home alive.

_________

Extra info that might be helpful:

- 93k words

- New Adult crossover (spice-free!)

- Slow burn

- Elite Boarding School

- World of Iron & Steam

- Series potential, but marketed as standalone for now

How to do ads?

I'm laughing my romantic fantasy book on early November and I'm still figuring things out, specifically about marketing.

What are the best ads platforms? Instagram? Tik tok? Amazon? Google ads? How much to spent? Any tips? Thanks!

Formatting tools and Apps for Books

Hey, did you guys use some app to format your books? Like Reedsy or other?

I kind want something that has personalization options but these ones are very expensive.

Heeey, I'm accepting ARC readers that want to join a team of my new Dark Academia & Steampunk Romantasy!

TROPES:

⟡ Enemies to Lovers

⟡ Forced Proximity

⟡ Boarding Academy

⟡ Painfully Sloooooow Burn 🔥

⟡ Found Family

⟡ He falls first,

⟡ Grumpy × Grumpy (one is just better at pretending).

⟡ has no spicy (but the mmc yearns like HELL!!)

DM me if you're interested! 🩶

⚠️⚠️ Content warning; profanity, alcohol abuse, but in general very family friendly

Looking for Beta Readers

I am looking for beta readers as part of my launch plan as an independent/indie author. The idea is to put the book up for pre-order and hire a few readers to beta read it and leave an honest review on Goodreads or other platforms as a marketing strategy.

Is this a common practice, or am I way off base?

If there’s no issue with this and it’s standard practice, please let me know if you’re interested and what your rates are.

Details:

97k-word manuscript

Dark academia / steampunk

New Adult crossover

Spice-free (just yearning and maybe some racy thoughts, but nothing explicit)

Looking for an Editor

Hey folks!

Im looking for an experienced editor for my dark academia / steampunk novel.

The manuscript is approximatelv 97k words and I'm NOT looking for developmental editing or major rewrites.

I'm happy with the story, characters, pacing, and overal structure. What I need is someone who can polish the manuscript and make it read as professionallv as possible. I'm looking for: Grammar and punctuation corrections Spelling corrections Improving sentence flow and readability Fixing awkward or unnatural phrasing Eliminating unnecessary repetition Improving consistency throughout the manuscript Making the English sound natural and fluent while preserving my writing style and my characters' voices

I don't want the book rewritten-I simplv want it to read like it was originally written by a native English speaker.

Please let me know if you are a fit for me! Thanksss

Hire an editors for Indies?

So, I'm doing one last round of self editing and polishing my book, but sometimes I wish I could have help with someone to check for errors, ortography and stuff like that.

Not the plot stuff, I had beta readers and critical readers before. The writing itself.

Does anyone know what to do? Have anyone hire this service? Any recommendations? Is it too expensive?

Any tips on how to get Bookstagrams to notice you?

In my country, there are services for hiring micro-influencers to promote your book, but I don't see the same thing happening with English-language Instagram accounts. How does it work in that context? Has anyone managed to get in touch with or hire this kind of promotional service?

Thanks!

Should I go for self-publishing or wait for agents?

So, I have a finished manuscript—96k words, dark academia fantasy, New Adult Crossover

It's already gone through 3 rounds of critical reading and beta readers, I'm actually confident, but in the middle of this process I sent several queries and ended up burning out with agents when my manuscript could have been better. Well, now it's much better, but I've already received several "no"s from version agents that I confess still had room for improvement.

Long story short, I’m sending out queries again, but I think if nothing comes of it in the next two or three months, I’ll go the self-publishing route—even though the book is better suited for traditional retail shelves than for Kindle Unlimited.

Am I doing the right thing? Should I wait, I don't know, maybe six months? Are there authors who self-published and later managed to get picked up by publishing houses? Is anyone else going through this?
