WOULD YOU K*LL YOUR SLAVE MASTER?

In this 1979 speech at the University of Georgia, Pan-Africanist Kwame Ture responded to critics who questioned revolutionary violence by asking an uncomfortable question: What would you have done if you had been enslaved?

Ture argued that history cannot be understood without confronting the reality that many liberation struggles involved both peaceful resistance and armed self-defense. He also challenged the common portrayal of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement as exclusively nonviolent, pointing to a broader history of Black communities protecting themselves against racial terror.

His remarks echo another of his well-known observations:

“In order for nonviolence to work, your opponent must have a conscience.”

Historians have also documented that many civil rights activists, particularly in the South, relied on armed self-defense while participating in nonviolent campaigns. Works such as Charles E. Cobb Jr.‘s This Nonviolent Stuff’ll Get You Killed and Akinyele Omowale Umoja’s We Will Shoot Back explore this often-overlooked aspect of the movement.

Whether one agrees with Ture or not, his speech continues to raise difficult questions about resistance, self-defense, and the limits of nonviolence in the face of oppression.

"Capitalism is inherently based upon the Non-Aggression Principle" → A liberal's comment under a post about the death toll of capitalism

"No one has ever died because of capitalism. Every person who has died because of capitalism has actually died because of communism!

By definition capitalism cannot kill people because it's inherently non-violent. Therefore the death toll of capitalism is zero!

And it saved us from evil communism!"
