Zambian Voting Structure

I have never voted before so i want to know how it works. I just want clarification. For those who voted, were you given four ballot papers and if you were not interested in voting for the other levels like Mayoral, Parliamentary and Council, were you still forced to get four ballots and if you still left them blank did you still have to put them in the provided boxes?

My question is because i want to understand why there were huge discrepancies between total valid votes cast for President and those for Parliamentary seats in some areas.

Some even more than just buying from here. If you any other recommendations of places i can try please let me know.

Mundubile Supporters, Foolish? Or not?

I will be very honest in this post.

I don't want Mundubile to win, honestly, because my logical brain tells me he may not be capable of dealing with Zambia's problems the way HH has. I struggle to imagine a better Zambia under Mundubile. But at the same time, I feel hurt when I see him losing. Very complex, I know. Maybe there is a reason for that.

One thing that really bothers me is the sense I get that UPND and some of its supporters don't believe they are replaceable.

I have also noticed that UPND has created an image of itself as a party for the elite and educated, while assuming that every Zambian should see things the same way they do.

Opposition supporters have sometimes been portrayed as dull or foolish simply because they don't see the "wonderful things" HH has done.

So my question is: Are they really foolish?

Let's start with the drought and load shedding.

Before the 2024 rainy season, studies had already warned about the possibility of drought. One of the recommendations was for farmers to grow early-maturing maize so that, if the rains disappeared, there would still be food available.

The power utility also had access to information about the potential impact of the drought.

Yet we still experienced severe load shedding and mealie meal shortages.

With better planning, could some of this have been avoided?

Then, during the same period, we saw Namibia praising Zambia for supplying them with uninterrupted electricity, while at the same time a huge amount of money was reportedly sent to China by mistake.

The government commissioned many solar plants but non of that made any change. In fact the current power we are experiencing is not due to more solar plants it's because we had better rainfall the previous rainy season.

Last year, we saw farmers receiving fertiliser in small quantities and sometimes in very small heaps, something many people had never experienced before.

At the same time, the dollar went as high as around K28 and fuel prices skyrocketed.

And the response from UPND supporters was largely: "We are fixing the economy."

But here is where I think the disconnect happened.

Many people were angry about corruption, cadreism and the misappropriation of public funds in the PF. But they didn't understand why they had to suffer so much in the process of fixing those problems.

If someone loses income today because the government is fixing the economy, they need to understand why they are suffering, what is being fixed, how long it will take and what they can expect at the end.

That is where I think the government failed badly in communication.

People needed to understand what debt restructuring means, what Zambia's defaults meant, why restructuring was necessary and how it would eventually benefit them.

Instead of spending so much money on campaigning later, I believe the government should have invested heavily in public education long before the campaign period.

Teach people about the economy. Explain the debt. Explain restructuring. Explain the sacrifices. Explain what the government is trying to achieve.

Because if people don't understand the journey, they will only judge you by what they are experiencing today.

And yes, free education is a major achievement. But even that has been overshadowed for some people by the high cost of living. When someone is struggling to feed their family, free education alone may not convince them that their life is getting better.

Many people do not understand a high cost of living entails. Having a salary that fails to fully support you because everything has become so expensive. We are animals at our core and when we are in need our only desire is to first find food. That's according to Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

You cannot expect someone who has lost a job or income due to heavy loadshedding to still return you.

So, are people foolish for supporting Mundubile?

I don't think so.

People can look at the same Zambia and come to completely different conclusions.

And perhaps the biggest mistake any government can make is assuming that people who disagree with it are simply too foolish to understand what is happening.

Can a Xerox Versant 180 be converted to another region to accept US toner using NVM settings?

I'm trying to find out if it's possible to change the regional settings on a Xerox Versant 180 so it accepts toner intended for the North American (US) market.

I've looked through the service documentation and found NVM settings related to toner kit types (CMYK, Vivid, Fluorescent), but I haven't found anything that changes the machine's sales region.

Has anyone successfully:

Changed the machine's region using NVM?

Converted a non-US Versant 180 to accept US-region toner?

Found any Xerox service documentation or service bulletin that covers this?

I'm only interested in documented procedures or firsthand experience from Xerox technicians or owners. Any information would be appreciated.

I bought toner and it has different chip to the ones meant for the machine buying new toner locally is too expensive and getting new toner from china will take a month.

So I need a non destructive quick fix if it exists.

Real Estate Photography on Pixel 7 Pro?

Hello everyone I am a graphic Designer and I booked a gig to do a Hotel Brochure. The client also needs high quality photography but i thought to start the design i could take some shots with my Pixel 7pro. I have money to buy Canon R50 but that money is also needed for my business upgrade. What i need opinion on is whether i can still capture high quality photos for the place and if so how should i do it. I know of the techniques involving doing three shorts for each scene under different exposures and merging the image together. I hope to use the Black Magic app for this.

My side hustle makes 4x my day job (K20,000 vs K5,000), but I’m terrified to quit. Now my wife is overwhelmed running our print farm. Do I finally make the leap?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a reality check on whether I should finally quit my 9-to-5 or hold out a little longer.

Here are the numbers: I currently make K5,000/month at my full-time job. My side hustle—a 3D prototyping—currently brings in K20,000/month.

The income disparity is huge, and I know I can easily survive if I leave, but honestly, I've been scared to take the plunge. I’ve held onto the job for so long because of the perks: a free desk, free internet, and the ability to do all my 3D modeling and slice preparation during downtime. I’m highly efficient and complete my office work in record time, so it's easy to pivot back to my own business.

My boss is a tough but good guy. He knows I do my own thing on the side (even though I initially denied it) and told me he doesn't care as long as his company doesn't suffer. It's actually a win-win because I sometimes pass my overflow or specific jobs back to my day job's company, which builds great client relationships and helps them out. We do have a manager with a massive inferiority complex who used to make my blood boil, but I’ve handled him, so that’s no longer a factor.

I used to outsource the actual printing and manufacturing of my prototypes, but I recently bought a bank of commercial 3D printers to run a farm in-house and maximize margins.

Because I am still at my 9-to-5, my wife has stepped up to manage the print farm at home. The problem is, she is also taking care of our kid full-time. I can see that juggling childcare and operating the machines—clearing build plates, changing filaments, troubleshooting failed prints, and post-processing—is just too stressful for her, and she isn't fully ready to manage both.

I need to make a move. Should I conquer my fear, quit my K5,000/month job right now so I can run the 3D print farm myself and give my wife a break? Or is there a strategic reason I should stay at the 9-to-5 a bit longer despite the strain at home?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a reality check on whether I should finally quit my 9-to-5 or hold out a little longer.

Here are the numbers: I currently make $1,500/month at my full-time job. My side hustle—a branding company I’ve been building—currently brings in $6,000/month.

The income disparity is huge, and I know I could survive if I left, but honestly, I've been scared to take the plunge. I’ve held onto the job for so long because of the perks: a free desk, free WiFi, and the ability to work on my side gigs during downtime. I’m highly efficient and complete my office work in record time, so it's easy to pivot back to my own gigs.

We do have a manager with a massive inferiority complex who used to make my blood boil, but I’ve handled him, so that’s no longer a factor.

I used to outsource a lot of my branding work, but I recently bought a large format printer to do full branding in-house and add more value.

Because I am still at my 9-to-5, my wife has stepped up to run the new machine. The problem is, she is also taking care of our kid full-time. I can see that juggling childcare and operating the large format printer is just too stressful for her, and she isn't fully ready to manage both.

Would love to hear from anyone who has navigated this kind of transition.

EDIT: Please not the numbers I put are arbitrary and do not represent what I really get. I am in Africa. The reason I didn't put actual amount is I wanted people to focus on the disparity. But lemme clarify some things. In my country government health is almost free. Very few things you would spend money on and that expense is very small. If I switched to health insurance so I can access Private health care the insurance would still be miniature as compared to American numbers am seeing here.

My Salary converted to American Dollars is $250. (You see how crazy that is) But that is a lot of money in my country most government workers get paid somewhere between 300 - 700. Our president salary is about $2300 before allowances.

Now back to me my business generates roughly $1000 profit. We use only about $200 from that. The rest we invest. Which is why we have been able to but equipment.

Hope that clears out most people's assumptions.

How poor Political Communication is costing the UPND

One of the biggest challenges in politics isn't always what a government does. It's how people interpret what they see.

If I were in the opposition, I would look for every information gap and every piece of government jargon that ordinary people don't fully understand, then shape the narrative in my favour.

Take international reserves, for example. The government has been celebrating that Zambia now has over US$6 billion in reserves. I understand what international reserves are and why they matter to the country's financial stability. But the average Zambian doesn't. What many people hear is simply that "government has billions of dollars."

As the opposition, I could easily turn that into a powerful message: "The government had billions of dollars but chose to keep the money while businesses were collapsing under load shedding. They had the money to save jobs and reduce the suffering, but they decided not to."

Whether that argument is economically accurate is almost irrelevant politically. It is simple, emotional, and easy for people to understand. Meanwhile, explaining what international reserves actually are, why they exist, and why they cannot simply be spent is a much harder conversation.

This is why information architecture matters. If a government doesn't explain complex policies in language that ordinary people can understand, someone else will explain them in a way that serves their own political interests.

Xerox Versant 180 Registration Skew Issue: Fiery Tray Alignment Page Drifts by 3 mm

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to diagnose a registration issue on my Xerox Versant 180.

When I print the Fiery Tray Alignment page and fold it according to the instructions, one side aligns almost perfectly from the bottom to the top. However, the other side gradually drifts.

The vertical line on the affected side starts in the correct position at the bottom where it meets the horizontal line. As you move up the page, it slowly shifts to the right. By the time it reaches the top, it is about 3 mm (or slightly less) away from where it should be.

Some additional information:

  • The problem occurs on all paper trays.
  • It has been present since the very first print after I got the machine from a supplier in china.
  • Fiery Tray Alignment cannot correct it.
  • The same gradual drift is visible even on simplex (single-sided) prints, so it doesn't appear to be a duplex registration issue.

Has anyone experienced this on a Versant 180 or a similar Xerox production press? What was the root cause? Was it a mechanical issue (registration assembly, rollers, sensors, etc.) or something else?

Any advice or troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Why Are More Working Personnel in Zambia Becoming Overweight or Obese?

I've noticed what seems to be a growing number of people, especially women of reproductive age, who are overweight or obese in many institutions. This is just a personal observation, but it has made me wonder whether others have noticed the same trend.

One thing I've also observed is that, in many parts of Zambian culture, being overweight is sometimes viewed as a sign of wealth, good living, or being well cared for. I wonder whether this perception has contributed, even indirectly, to people being less concerned about the health risks associated with obesity.

My concern mainly is whether others have noted this and are actively working to change this.

Also my concern is whether is whether people recognize this is health risk and not something to be proud of.

2026 Elections

I don't want Mundubile to win but it's fun watching UPND shaken. My question is why is HH scared before May 2026 he looked very unopposed but after Mundubile came on the scene he has started doing things that are making him look like an unwanted president trying so hard to remain in power from pleading to people in Choma to ECZ tactics to stop opposition.

For me HH should have just stayed relaxed and allowed everyone to do as they are allowed by law and just tell people the wonderful things he has done so far.

But now I don't know it's not like he will be prosecuted for misuse of funds or something he has already shown he's good.

The thing is HH won, just like Chile one won against Yo Maps, because people wanted to teach PF a lesson. Are people trying to go back to their ex???

Facebook Page Management Tips

I manage about 5 Facebook pages for different businesses in Zambia. My role is mainly content creation, so I design posters, create some videos, and handle posting.

One thing that is frustrating me is that the quality of the content is generally better than many competing pages in the same industries, yet engagement remains extremely low. Some posts get fewer than 10 likes, some get almost no reactions at all, and follower growth is very slow. We also receive very few inquiries despite posting consistently.

I understand that boosting posts can help, but I'm interested in hearing from people who have successfully grown Facebook pages in Zambia without relying heavily on paid ads.

For those managing business pages in Zambia:

  • What strategies have actually worked for you?
  • How often do you post?
  • Are posters still effective, or is video now essential?
  • What type of content gets the most engagement?
  • How do you convert followers into actual customer inquiries?
  • Is Facebook reach in Zambia now mostly pay-to-play?

I'd especially like to hear from business owners, social media managers, marketers, and anyone who has grown a local Zambian page from almost zero to a strong following.

What was the biggest mistake you discovered you were making?

Additional information i would like to add is that these pages are very specific and are very careful in how they entertain funny posts or jumping on trending topics.

Thanks in advance.

Troubleshooting Xerox Versant 180 Fault 044-370 - Looking for PWS Shell / Manual Help

Hey everyone,

I’m currently independent troubleshooting an imported Xerox Versant 180 that's throwing a hard 044-370 error code (Paper Handling PWB communication fault).

The power infrastructure is entirely taken care of, it's running on a clean, dedicated 32A Type-D breaker with 6mm^(2) wiring and an industrial 32A commando connector, so the incoming line voltage is stable.

I have the raw EDOC data ZIP files for the V180 to dive into the schematics, but I don't have the Xerox PWS software framework installed on my laptop to open and link the files properly.

Does anyone have a standalone PWS emulator/shell installer or a flat Service Manual PDF they could share a link to? It would help me tremendously in diagnosing whether I just need to reseat/replace the ribbon cable or if the sub-board itself is fried.

Please drop a comment or send a DM if you can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Is this Fatal or recoverable Xerox Versant 180 Press

I bought a refurbished Versant 180 from China through Alibaba. While it was there it worked perfectly from the videos they sent but when it reached here it gave that fault code I entered the service menu and it told me this is the only time this fault has been registered.

I am waiting for a repair person to come and help but was just wondering if this is fatal and what could have caused it.

How long should someone keep earning from a client referral if they do zero work afterward?

A few years ago, Daniel contacted me and said he knew a business owner who needed someone to design a recurring publication.

He introduced us, and from that point onward, I dealt directly with the client.

I handled everything:

  • concept design
  • layout
  • revisions
  • communication
  • deadlines
  • final files

Basically, 100% of the actual work.

The agreed payment for each issue was $850.

When the first payment came in, Daniel told me he’d send me $400 and keep $450. I pushed back and said if we were going to split it, it should at least be fair, so we agreed to $425 each.

At the time, I thought that made sense because he brought the client.

But then this arrangement continued for six issues.

Same split.

Same situation.

The problem? Daniel wasn’t doing anything.

No design.
No revisions.
No client management.
No communication.
No production work.
Nothing.

I was doing all the actual work, often staying up late to hit deadlines, while he kept collecting 50% because he had made the introduction.

Then a separate one-off design project came through him worth $600.

The client paid.

Daniel didn't pay me and that made me realize I couldn’t trust how he managed money.

That was my first major red flag.

Then months later, on the recurring publication, the client had already paid him for the latest issue.

When I followed up about my payment, Daniel told me he needed to first use the money for his child’s school fees and would pay me afterward.

That really bothered me because at that point it felt like money I had earned through completed work was being treated like his emergency fund.

I contacted the client, not to cut him out, but because I needed clarity around delayed payment.

I explained the situation.

The client told me to resolve it directly with Daniel, but said they were willing to start paying me directly going forward if Daniel confirmed that arrangement.

So I confronted him.

We talked it through.

I told him the 50/50 arrangement made no sense when I was doing all the work.

We renegotiated, and instead of half, he started receiving a fixed $100 referral amount per issue.

That’s where things stand now.

But honestly?

I’m questioning even that.

He still does absolutely nothing.

No communication.
No management.
No creative input.
Nothing.

So Reddit:

Am I being unfair for wanting to stop paying him entirely at this point?

If someone introduces you to a client but contributes nothing afterward, how long is it reasonable for them to keep getting paid?

Was involving the client about the payment delay crossing a line, or was that justified?
