Potential free remote subscription.

This morning I tried to log in to the remote app for my ipace to check charge (I'm in the UK if that makes a difference). It turned out my subscription had expired. I didn't realise there was a subscription for the basic features, but it turns out there is. Anyway, google indicated its around £40 a year to subscribe, but when I tried to sign up, the cheapest option was £290 for tracker and remote features. I didn't want tracker, just remote.

A little more googling revealed there is a technical glitch preventing owners from simply subscribing to remote access alone. It went on to say that a lot of customers had success by contacting customer services on 0370 500 0500, selecting option 3, and explaining the online glitch is preventing you from signing up to remote only features. Google suggested that customers were being given a courtesy subscription of 5 to 6 months to allow Jaguar to rectify the issue.

I called them this morning and was pleasantly surprised when the advisor said he'd applied a courtesy 12 months to my account as a gesture of goodwill.

Its only a little win I know, but I thought I'd share in case anyone else can benefit. No guarantees of course you'll get the same response, but it absolutely worked for me.

I'm selling the car next month anyway, so even more of a result that I didn't need to pay for a subscription I'll hardly be able to use.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone, and good luck.

2026 Model 3 center caps

Hi. I'm looking for recommendations for center caps and wheel nut covers for the 2026 18 inch photon wheels on the model 3.

My wife and I have 2 ordered, mine is stealth Grey, hers is white. Our cars are due to arrive in the next few weeks, and I want to have them ready to fit on day 1, as we hate the look of the wheel covers (personal opinion), and we don't do enough miles to worry about loss of efficiency.

Of course, I've had a good look on Google, but it wasn't always clear if they will be a perfect fit, as Google is saying between 53 and 56mm, which isn't overly helpful, or the colour didn't appear to be a good match to the colour of the wheels.

So, can anyone recommend covers that fit perfectly, and have a good colour match, and as a bonus, have stood the test of time.

I think I prefer the small center cap cover with the separate wheel nut covers, but could be convinced by the all in one larger cap cover too.

Links would be really useful to make sure I'm looking at the correct item.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just got given £1000 for my of phone.

I posted here a month or so ago, very happy that my phone insurance company had replaced my broken Samsung Fold 4 phone, with a new Samsung fold 5, for the £75 excess cost. I was very happy with that arrangement.

Anyway, I've just had to return the fold 5 to them due to an issue with the Bluetooth and WiFi.

I had to wait a couple of days before they contacted me and said they couldn't source a suitable replacement so offered me £1000 cash, which has just landed in my account. For reference I bought the fold 4 for £899 nearly 3 years ago in a sale.

I was not fussed about another folding phone, so managed to get a S26 on an o2 contract (much better signal at home and work) for £18 a month, which was only £10 more than I've been paying for a sim only ID mobile deal for the last few years.

So, a grand in the bank. New phone, and on a much better network, for an extra tenner a month, along with knowledge that the phone insurance I get on my work policy is actually very very good.

Got my boys bike fixed, cheap

My boys mountain bike was playing up, slipping constantly when under load. Took it to Halfords, and they said they couldn't work out what was wrong with it. Found a small local community charity bike hub, where they fix and sell used bike in a kind of food bank place ( random, but that's what it was). Anyway, the guy clearly knew what he was taking about, and said it needed a new chain and rear gear cassette. That sounded expensive to me, but he quoted just £30 all in, and could do it whilst I wait.

Whilst I was there I watched some heart warming community spirt at play in food bank side of the set up, which was something I don't see very often.

After receiving a now perfectly fixed bike, I rode it home, and then returned with an old bike I'd had sitting around for a while to donate to them.

Within an hour I had a fixed bike for just 30 quid (my boy very happy). Managed to clear a bit of space by getting rid of an old one. And was made to feel that in some small way I'd manage to help a good cause.

That was a good hour.

EV's, driveways & prices?

I asked this on an EV forum recently, but intrigued about how a non EV nut group would see it.

With the wider adoption of EV adoption, are we seeing a disproportionate increase in the values of properties with driveways?

For context, and for those that are unaware, home charging an EV is crazy cheap, like almost free when solely charging on an off peak EV tariff, compared to the public charging network that is often more expensive and far more inconvenient than sticking with a traditionally fuelled car.

I for one wouldn't dream of buying a house without off street parking now I've got used to this "free" fuel, along with the convenience of waking up to a fully fuelled car every day. Many of the respondents in my previous post said the same, but I'm keen to get comments from a less biased pool.

I appreciate that for many, any home ownership is a distant dream, and I don't want to be insensitive to that, however, many people are, and will continue to keep buying homes. EV adoption has grown massively in the last few years, and will continue to. Has this already had an impact on driveway values, and will it continue to and to what extent?

Also is there a sizable difference to a property simply having a drive way, and one that already has an EV charger installed, as I'm aware some properties with a drive end up being more problematic, or impossible to achieve an EV installation.

This is purely a thought experiment, as I'm aware I probably put more emphasis on the importance of this than most, but EVs are becoming such a big thing, that I'd be surprised if it wasn't enough to impact pricing already, let alone in the near future.

Thoughts?

Insurance replaced my phone

Had my high spec phone suddenly die on me the other day. Well over £1000 to replace. A colleague reminded me we have a workplace scheme which covers them, so I thought I'd give it a go. They didn't have my exact model in stock, so upgraded me, all I had to do was pay £75 excess, they didnt even want to see my broken phone first. Wanted to share this little win somewhere, as I never get luck like this, so here it is 😁

EVs, driveways and house prices?

So whilst reading a separate post about how folk charge if they can't charge at home, it got me thinking. Will houses with driveways end up being disproportionately more expensive than the equivalent house without one? I mean, it used to be somewhere convenient to park, now its somewhere convenient to park that saves thousands of pounds per year, per vehicle, on running costs. I personally wouldn't consider buying a house without a drive now. I'm fortunate to live in an area with relatively low house prices, and plenty of driveways. I did however relocate from the South East where buying a similar property would have been far more difficult, so I understand the regional differences, but the point still stands. Will we see more disparity moving forward? Is it already happening (I've not looked at the market for a long time), are there many people who would now not consider a house without a driveway, who maybe otherwise would if it wasn't for EV charging benefits now being a factor? It does amaze me how happy folk seem to be to use alternative charging solutions, which cost 10 times or more than home charging, so I'm aware I probably put more emphasis on the home charging savings than most, but is this enough to change the housing market to any significant degree?

For what it's worth, I think the price disparity between what folk pay for charging at home and the alternatives is an outrage. Whilst I benefit from it, it doesn't mean I agree with it, but as it stands, it is what it is, and I expect the market will reflect the reality, not an ideological situation. Thoughts?
