It was wild.

I was being taxied around by a supervisor at my job(reason unimportant), and we were getting on the subject of music because it was just a quiet ride up until then. He asked me, what kind of music do I listen to? and I said "I don't want to be that guy, but I listen to everything" and he said the same, and I said "yeah, my favorite band is an 80s Japanese speed metal band", and he was like "Oh, what're they called?" and I said "X-Japan", and he was like "I THOUGHT that's who you were talking about", and it was like a "WTF??"

Dude is same age as me, filthy millennial, and we blasted Blue Blood for some of the ride before we switched to other stuff, but it was wild. Never in my life have I met anyone who knows X-Japan before me, and it was pretty cool.

I start my orientation on Monday, and I am kind of second guessing my choice here.

I understand the USPS is a long play for being successful(pension, 401k matching, benefits, job security, etc), but the initial phases looks scary from all I'm hearing and reading.

5-7 days of 10-12 hour shifts weekly, I'm based in Phoenix so it'd be in the sun all day(which doesn't really scare me too bad, I'm able to maneuver that), makes it seem like I won't have any time for myself, my wife, my animals, or my passions(graphic design and artwork commissions). Let alone asking for time off, I hear that's nigh impossible in the early stages, and difficult later.

How much can I expect the USPS job to eat into basically every other aspect of my life?? Is there work/life balance to be struck?

So, there's a scam going around for Uber drivers where you'll get a call from "Uber Support" and there's a payment that failed or something, and they're looking to reinstate it, and that just so happens to coincide with a bonus for you as a driver because you're doing so, so good. They'll ask how you're paid, and if you get direct deposit, they'll ask questions about getting your information and then basically get your account info.(PS- Uber support will NEVER call you)

Anyway. I got one of those calls, and the person was bright and cheerful, and did their usual spiel, and when it got to the point of "And could you please tell us how you get paid, is it a direct deposit?" I just replied "Oh, you're Uber support, you should be able to see that, right?"

The Uber Support Specialist replied "Yeah, I should, now EAT A DICK AND GO DO YOUR JOB" and hung up.

While I may have failed to fulfill the eat a dick portion of Uber support's request, I at least kept going, so I hope I'm not in too much trouble.

I'm going to have kind of an open invitation for my birthday coming up, and having a spot to do karaoke that is pretty open and has a bar/grill would be preferred. The Vine in Scottsdale has an outdated book and is pretty small, so that place is out.

I went to go pick someone up. I drove to the location, and outside were two gentleman- Just a Regular Guy, and another one with a paper bag and covered head to toe in tattoos(looked to be proper tribal tattoos, Native American).

The Regular Guy leaned forward into my window and just said "Hospital" and the tattooed gentleman got in my car. I'm like "Okay..." and off we go.

Start having a conversation with the guy. He's talking about how he got in a fight at that location, he was being disrespected, so on and so on, and I was able to get a feel for him and make him feel as comfortable as I could- Gift of Gab and all that. So we're heading to our destination, and he then mentions that he hears voices, tell him to do things, etc.

At this point, I get concerned. I'm just trying to get this guy to his destination and get on with my day. As I'm taking a turn down the street, less than a half mile from our destination, he asks me to let him off at a Circle K- Not stop there and have him pick something up and get to the hospital, but just let him off there. I kindly protest, say we have a place to go, that we should do that, etc etc, but he starts to get elevated a bit.

I don't know what's in that bag. He's behind me and I'm handling my main source of current income in an enclosed space where anything can go wrong VERY quickly. After a few gentle rebuffs of trying to commit to our location, I just drop him off. Ended the ride early, and kept driving.

He's the one in the car, he's the one at the helm of his actions, I sure as hell am not gonna keep someone against their will, and I am not a courier of the self admitted violent.
