Verizon punishing my husband after THEY let a scammer try to get access to his account
Do clowns run Verizon? This is a genuine question.
On Monday, my husband (who used to share a plan with his father, who passed away earlier this year), got texts from Verizon saying he was “added to the queue” and then “next in line” for in-person support at a New Jersey Verizon store (we don’t live in NJ). He thought they were spam so he ignored.
The next day, his phone line gets shut off and he spends nearly all day either on the phone or in person at a store trying to get it resolved. Finds out there are at least 2 other random #s on his account that he has no idea who they are, but they have the same area code. We were able to see one person’s first and last name, email, and phone # and the second person was listed as a backup with just a first name and phone #. I actually called one of them and it’s some bozo who I think was definitely trying to buy an iPhone off the account because he said he isn’t even a Verizon customer but admitted to trying to purchase an iPhone from Verizon over the phone the day before.
My husband spends ANOTHER half day dealing with this on Wednesday, finally gets some resolution with CS creating a “new” account just for him. Verizon claimed there could have been a typo when a rep typed in my husband’s SSN but that seems far-fetched because how would that cause two random people to be added to the account?
Then TODAY after even more time on the phone talking to the fraud department (aka clown school) he submits photos of his ID and they REJECT him as if he’s the one claiming to be someone he’s not.
This has got to be the most infuriating customer service experience we’ve ever gone through. All in, he’s wasted days of his life talking to incompetent Verizon employees and there’s been 0 clear answer as to what’s going and 0 resolution.
Anyone gone through anything similar or have any suggestions on recourse?
