I love this book so much (Ain't No Grave by Skottie Young and Jorge Corona)

I love this book so much (Ain't No Grave by Skottie Young and Jorge Corona)

My english paperback of Ain't No Grave was starting to be a little worn out, so I decided to upgrade it to the french version, which is an oversized hardcover. I love this book so much; a short but impactful story about life, death and violence, with absolutely phenomenal artwork and coloring. It's a short read but in my opinion it is severely underrated. Middlewest from the same creative team is also well worth the read.

Pantoprazole bringing back my anxiety, anyone else experienced this ?

So I've been on Effexor 112,5mg for 4+ years now, with no problems whatsover; no relapse in anxiety symptoms, sleep is good, everything is fine.

Started taking Pantoprazole for silent reflux, and after a week or so, some anxiety symptoms came back; waking up early, nervousness, elevated heart rate. Quick research shows that pantoprazole has some interaction with venlafaxine, yet I asked my pharmacist and she says she doubt it's because of the pantoprazole.

My reflux is not the cause of my anxiety, I've had it for years, on and off, even before I had anxiety attacks. It's not something that is triggering my anxiety.

I didn't take any chance and stopped my pantoprazole 3 days ago (took it for 20 days), and it seems to be going better already.

Anyone else with similar experience ?

A Frog In The Fall by Linnea Sterte

Finally got my hands on this. Thought it was pretty good, loved the whimsical art and story. An ode to adventure, life and nature. My expectations were maybe a tiny bit too high but I would still recommend it easily.

Anyone simultaneously on Pantoprazole and Venlenflaxine ?

Been on Effexor 112,5 mg for 4 years now, been doing great. No symptoms at all of anxiety, my sleep is good, everything is fine.

Now I started taking Pantoprazole about 2 weeks ago for some stomach issues, and this past week I've been waking up super early, and having bouts of nervosity/anxiety throughout the day, something that hasn't happened since I had huge anxiety episodes (which is when I started Effexor).

After a bit of research, seems that pantoprazole has an effect on venlafaxine levels in the blood, something nobody warned me about. So I'm thinking I'm just gonna stop Pantoprazole because the stomach issues are annoying, sure, but nowhere near as annoying as feeling like my anxiety is coming back.

Such an incredible run !

Been rereading the first omnibus of Grell's Green Arrow in the past few days, it's so good. It and The Question by Dennis O'Neil are probably the best street level superhero books that DC has published. While the art feels a bit dated in some places, the writing in this is still very much up to date, and some of the social issues that are tackled by Grell are (unfortunately) still relevant these days. I haven't read the second one yet (I'm lucky to have grabbed both while they were still in print), but I'm pretty stoked to check it out !

Thank you, European market !

Here in Québec we're pretty lucky to have access to both the american market and the european one. This was released last week here, finally got around to picking it up. Never read it before so I'm pretty excited to dive in.

Miller's Daredevil, Grell's Green Arrow and O'Neil's The Question are peak street-level superhero comics

I'm currently rereading Mike Grell's Green Arrow (actually I'm rereading the first omnibus, haven't read the second one yet), and man, that book is awesome. I love the grittier tone and more serious storytelling (even if there's still some silly stuff in it sometimes). It has aged pretty well to be honest, especially writing wise. I'm usually not a big fan of older art but I can handle it just fine in this series. Same goes for O'Neil's The Question, which shares a lot of similarities with Grell's GA. Daredevil is obviously a bit less grounded, but the tone is very similar, and I'm sure it inspired Mike and Dennis.

Obviously most DD runs fit this bill well, and the recent Green Arrow run by Condon is also excellent. Shoutout to Ed Brubaker's Catwoman, which also is a great street level hero book.

What is your favorite street level run ?

Bonjour.

Merci

Ryan North's first issue on the Flash was extremely good, and it got me hyped to read some more Flash comics. I have only read the first omnibus of Mark Waid's run, which I overall enjoyed, but seeing it ranked as the 2nd best run of all time on this sub maybe skewed my expectations a bit. When it comes to modern runs, it seems like the Adams run is generally well liked, and the Spurrier one, not so much. I'm looking for something that has the general tone that North seems to be going for.

If you haven't checked it out yet, Batman Dark Patterns by Dan Watters and Hayden Sherman is a modern masterpiece; one that's poised to become a classic to be included in best-of lists of Batman comics (in my opinion, of course).

For those who have read it, how would rank the arcs ?

For me, it would be Pareidolia -> We Are The Wounded -> The Child of Fire -> The Voice of the Tower, and I would add that even my least favorite arc is still incredibly good. Just a banger of a book. Pareidolia sits at the top because it's a mix of everything that makes Batman great; excellent character work, a nicely constructed mystery, a nice use of older lore + new lore (the Rookery is such a cool concept), and an amazing but bittersweet climax to the whole story. Just phenomenal.

What was your favorite arc and why ?

The french market really is ahead of the curve sometimes. The Daredevil Cold Day In Hell Prestige Edition was released a few weeks ago, decided to get it because I loved both the art and the writing. As you can see, it's considerably bigger than the regular HC (about the same size as an Absolute from DC), so it's perfect to fully appreciate McNiven's glorious art.
