Finding parking as a commuter

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming freshman about to be commuting to UMD this year. I recently bought a parking permit for lot 1, but i’m worried about the parking lot filling up before i get there. all my classes start in the afternoon (around 3), will this make it harder to find places to park? any advice would be helpful!

visiting family soon…so scared

tw: numbers kinda? and fatphobia

i have family that lives out of the country so i really only ever see them every few years. every time i go there’s always at least one person who comments on my weight. for context, im overweight kinda on the verge of obese. im going to visit them in two days and ive kinda been on a binge streak recently so im reallyyy dreading it. last time i saw them was 2 years ago and im >!5-10ish!< >!lbs heavier!< than i was 2 yrs ago. which probably doesn’t make that much of a difference realistically but i feel x73729372937 heavier than that. i guess i just feel rlly ugly rn and i don’t know what to do, im so nervous to see them again.

how to completely cut certain foods from my diet?

I realized that when i eat certain things, mostly stuff like chocolate and other sweet things, I ALWAYS binge on them. Eating them in moderation really isn’t an option for me, but i find it so hard to completely stop eating them. I live with my parents and they’re the ones that usually bring them into the house and it entices me to eat it too. any tips on how to stop the cravings, or at least get through them?😢

Mom said im too lazy to live on my own

Hi guys! im an incoming college freshman living in the usa but have two semi strict Arab parents. My college is about a 35 min drive from my house, so my mom convinced me that it would be a good idea to commute to save money. I was fine w that and didn't fill out any forms for dorms. A few weeks later I was talking to my friend who has made the commute and said that on most days traffic makes the commute closer to 1-1.5hrs. I know myself and I know realistically I would not be able to make that commute everyday. Whether it be me being sick, weather issues, etc. It's just not realistic. I wanted to talk to my parents about looking at some off campus housing (since the deadline for dorms already passed). When I brought up the conversation, my mom immediately started talking about how I wouldn't be able to live on my own because I'm too lazy. She was talking about how I never help around the house (untrue btw, both of my parents work a lot so I'm the one who cleans up the house most of the time). I also have a job and I still find time to clean the house. If I lived on my own, I would have to do a FOURTH of the laundry and dishes I do now. It would also be a smaller space so it would be easier to clean than a 2 story house...but my mom's mind is made up. I'm less mad about not being able to move out and more sad that this is how my parents perceive me: just some freeloader who doesn't do anything all day. Me paying for my own apartment is pretty out of the question based on how much I make right now and my school schedule next year. I guess I just feel trapped in my house and I know no matter what I do my parents are never gonna see me as "responsible enough" to move out. I feel like if I did move out I could prove to them I can handle responsibility, but that doesn't look like it's gonna happen any time soon. I've gotten into multiple arguments with my mom about stuff like this and I just feel so annoyed. She never believes I can do anything by myself, whether that be taking public transportation or going to a sleepover. I've never done anything to make her feel like I'm not trustworthy so I really don't understand why she doesn't trust me to do stuff like this on my own. I feel like she still thinks Im some little kid. I know this is a common sentiment among 18 yr olds lol but I actually don't know how to show my parents I can make my own decisions now and I don't rely them as much as they think I do. Obviously I still rely on them for stuff like finances but I'm pretty confident I can manage and sleep in a 400sq ft studio on my own... Obviously I love my parents but I also want to start making my own life and path and I feel like if I don't push myself out there thats never gonna happen. Hope this made sense 😢

off campus housing

what off campus housing options are the best? i’m looking for something walking/biking distance from the school and not too expensive, but i also don’t want to live anywhere sketchy 😓. i’m open to pretty much any type of housing (apartment, townhouse, etc) and im okay with having roommates. any insight would be helpful!
