Dear HBO: making fun of domestic violence is not OK (Euphoria spoilers)
Did y'all really take a scene of domestic violence from Euphoria and turn it into a "haha isn't this so funny" moment for your insta? Like, really?? It's bad enough we've had to endure Levinson stripping our characters of all complexity and nuance to turn what was once a great drama into the "let's get Sydney Sweeney naked and doing literal porn" show but now we have the official instagram making fun of a woman being abused by her on-again-off-again girlfriend (who is in turn being abused by her creepy sugar daddy.)
What's next? Gonna make a music video parody of the scene where Kitty was gang r@ped?
Jesus christ HBO.
Is this brigading?
So, one of the subs I moderate is for the television adaptation of a book where the lead has been race and genderswapped for TV (making it an interracial, lesbian relationship) and this has caused a lot of bigoted backlash in the fandom to the point where an existing subreddit for the book couple has been "renovated" for the sole purpose of mocking my sub and ridiculing my members. Even their rules are racist.
I've already submitted an MCoC report - but will the admins actually do anything about it? Is this brigading?

Hi, Losties! Recently we've had a lot of people coming in asking where to watch LOST. These questions and answers are fine as long as there is no discussion of piracy. Please bear in mind that piracy falls under prohibited transactions and is disallowed under Reddit's terms of service. If we allow or encourage these discussions and links to piracy sites our subreddit can be banned by the Reddit admins.
We understand it's frustrating when we remove and/or lock comments and posts, but we don't want to lose our community. We appreciate your help keeping the subreddit TOS approved and safe.
After a Tim-specific post was made today it got me reminiscing about a time ten-ish years ago when a bunch of us on Twitter discovered each other via the Superntural fandom and realized we were actually more fans of Psych and Tim than SPN, lol! Tim - aware of our existence and affectionately disturbed by us - was a good sport about it all, lol. After he wasn't able to attend the SPN convention in Houston (Jan 2017) the Omundson Squad made "Pocket Tim" and took pictures of him around the con all weekend and then sent it to him along with a letter.
(Bonus, an autographed picture he sent me Christmas of 2016. I'd sent him a pair of argyle Seahawks socks and he pulled my address off the package and sent me the picture unprompted. He's a truly good dude.)
Good times, good times.
They've also made some performance improvements and implemented some bug fixes. Full patch notes available on Steam!
I'm going to preface this with two things. One, I'm a domestic violence survivor so I'm sensitive when it comes to violence against women. Two, I am not the show's target demographic. My daughter (27F) comes over to watch it with me (46F) every Sunday. I like the show but I know it's not aimed at me.
Anyway.
I was deeply uncomfortable during the "Cassie cries over her bloody nose while Nate gets nearly beaten to death" scene... not specifically because it was violence against women, but because we were clearly supposed to be laughing at her. This was confirmed when I watched the post-episode BTS stuff and they talked about how hilarious it was.
And... I understand that Cassie has gotten more and more ridiculous as the series has progressed and I understand how at first blush, on the surface, that scene seems funny... but is it really? It's framed as physical comedy, with the focus on crying-Cassie while Nate runs around and gets dragged and beaten, but this is a young woman, fresh from an already stressful day, unaccustomed to fear and danger at this level who has just been thrown to the ground by a stronger, bigger man and is bleeding all over her wedding dress. She's justifiably terrified and probably in a little bit of shock and that's apparently a foundation for ridicule.
I'm not a fan of the direction Sam Levinson has taken the series (still watching because Zendaya is brilliant), but between what he wrote for Jules at the beginning of the episode and how he treated Cassie at the end, I don't know how anyone can defend him against the allegations that he hates women.
Maybe it's just me because of my acknowledged biases, but if we're going to talk about violence against women can we not make it a joke? "Oh, that Cassie, look how ridiculous she is, having the temerity to cry because she was just attacked. Let's all point and laugh." Ick.
EDIT:
For the people in the comments claiming this scene wasn't supposed to be funny or that we weren't supposed to laugh at Cassie - with respect, please see the behind the scenes interviews where they explicitly state that's exactly what happened. Cassie was supposed to try to help and fight back at first. The scene was re-written to justify ridiculing a beaten woman because if she's a selfish bimbo who cares if she's bleeding. Sam even talks about how he's crying with laughter watching it.
