In 1994 a joke candidate, Jacob Haugaard, won a seat in Danish parliament.

Jacob Haugaard ran making these manifesto pledges:

  • Tail winds on all cycle paths
  • Better weather
  • Better Christmas presents
  • Less sex in school staff rooms (withdrawn during the campaign – he said it had been brought to his attention that sex in the staff room was a long-established privilege for teachers and as such could not be abolished)
  • More whales in the fjord of Randers
  • The right to impotence
  • More Renaissance furniture in IKEA
  • 8 hours of spare time, 8 hours of rest, 8 hours of sleep (a parody of a popular slogan of the eight-hour daymovement: "Eight hours' labour, Eight hours' recreation, Eight hours' rest")
  • Nutella in army field rations
  • The placing of a public toilet in the park in Aarhus where he spent his state party funding on serving beer and sausages to his voters after each election.
  • More bread for the ducks in parks

Jacob Haugaard was associated with the Union of Conscientiously Work-Shy Elements. He is the only time an independent candidate has been elected to parliament under the current Danish constitution.

Zucman v Neidle

Rory seems to think Dan Neidle has the same weight expertise as Zucman, but is this true?
SEVEN Nobel laureates support the Zucman tax and he’s a professor in economics who has worked on wealth inequality for decades.
Neidle was a tax lawyer who now runs an independent publication.
Surely this is a false equivalency. What does everyone think?

Count Binface will realistically need approx 25% of the Clacton vote share to win Bindependence

In 2024 Farage won with 27% of the whole vote share and 46% of votes cast. This will likely have gone down by a few points. So we can assume Binface will need approx 25% to win.

If the £5 million pound man falls will it end Reform?

I’ve seen Conservative commentators like Piers Morgan pivoting towards talking up Badenoch. Could Reform actually survive without Farage and are right-wingers already crawling back to the Tories?

Should Green comms be less serious?

Genuine question but should Green comms be less serious? I think the Greens are already popular among a large amount of highly educated/ politically engaged people. Would it be better to start focusing on less serious content that could go viral? I’m thinking of Ed Davey getting front pages for falling off a padel board or going down a waterslide.
Interested to hear thoughts.
