I took on a pro-bono case for someone who really needed it

It’s done. I’m still processing it, doing an altruistic thing in a very non-altruistic line of work. I was approached by a client who needed my services but couldn’t entirely afford them. Her circumstances were compelling enough that I accepted the contract. She wanted to finance the job but I don’t offer my services on credit, so this is what we decided on. I’m in a very difficult profession and the money has somewhat lost its incentive. I am very happy to have done this. It feels so good inside. I’ve never felt anything like it.

How do I manage my (33M) “responsive desire” with my partner (32F)?

I am super responsive; I never want to have sex unless I am touched and even then need lots of foreplay/preparation to soften up, if you will. Once I’m touched enough my body wakes up and I enjoy it, but most of the time she wants it more than I do. I have a very supportive new partner, but I don’t want this to create problems in the relationship. I haven’t had many partners in my life due to my career and general initial lack of interest in sex. We’re trying to make this work. I take it that there is nothing I can do to change/affect the responsive desire.

Thoughts?

A community for people with strange, unusual, and/or confidential careers?

I am looking for a community for people like myself, wherein users can share their experiences in an unusual line of work without necessarily sharing their careers explicitly (if they do not wish to).

I should probably just start my own community.

Does anyone else have too many clients?

I am frequently declining contracts. I decline more contracts than I accept because they are often from returning clients who believe that their contracts should take priority over anything else. Especially if they are time-sensitive. And especially if the client does not want to find someone else to do it. I do not interface with my clients directly but returning clients will often continue to make demands on my services even after I’ve declined to offer them.

Referrals are out of control. I have an administrator who handles these things so I do not know how it all looks on his side of it, or what he is doing to create the yield. These are referrals from referrals, and even the new clients are making proposals with the same kind of deserving expectation. The expectation seems to be that I will fly across the country, or out of the country(!), at a moment’s notice, and that their contract will go exactly according to their timeframe. I have had to threaten to withdraw once or twice in the middle of a job because the client kept making rearrangements or their information kept changing. This cannot happen if the job is overseas but these clients do not seem to understand that. To my limited knowledge they are individuals with international influence and borders do not exist for them.
If I am presented with multiple contracts at the same time, much of my time is spent deciding among them. Should I start charging for that? It’s not realistic, but my work is difficult enough.
So it happens that I am frequently thinking about and comparing contracts when I am on break, and should be resting. Such as right now.

My profession is extremely isolating

I can’t really talk about what I do. So what I share may seem cagey, but I’ll do my best. My work fits me and I’ve been doing it for a long time. It is difficult, lucrative, dangerous, and isolating in every practical sense. I work a few times per year. I am flown out by my employer to the location of the job. When the job is done I go home. When I am not working I have a lot of free time on my hands. I live alone. I spend most of my time alone. Sometimes I meet people. They ask me what I do. I give them a story. They believe the story. We enjoy our time together and then go our separate ways. It happens the same way almost every time.
I approach the isolation with pragmatism but it has gone on for so long that I am considering changing my career entirely, although it is late in my life to be doing that. To date I have never met (to my knowledge) another individual in my line of work. I have no “coworkers.” I don’t even interact with my clients because that is kept confidential.
I have fantasies about telling all - telling everything to people who matter to me. Sometimes I get hurt on the job. When I get home I do what I can and I patch myself up. The money doesn’t really matter. I am well compensated but it doesn’t really matter.
So what does matter? I am thinking, gosh, what a lonesome fellow you are.

Client needs my services, can’t fully afford them

I am a sort of contract worker. I am currently on break, but I go back into the field in about two weeks’ time. Over the break my employer accepted a client who needs something done overseas. The client has let on that they would need to finance the contract because they cannot entirely afford it. I take a deposit for my services, which is half the total payment, and receive the rest when it is done. Currently the client has little over half the amount for the deposit and wants to finance the rest. Typically I do not accept financing of any kind, and deferred this particular job until my employer told the client that they must find someone else to do it. He told me that the client does not want to find someone else. They want me to do it, and they want to pay a high interest on the original amount, which would be contractually guaranteed.
I do not need the money. I am well compensated, but the line of work I am in is difficult and dangerous, and going overseas would create complications.
I find that taking my break to decide this when I should be resting has already biased me on the issue.
