Thanks everyone. There are some excellent suggestions to get me started. Keep the ideas coming.

I've reached the end of my reading list for this year (or at least for now) and need suggestions. I love historical fiction (no Romance) along the lines of Ken Follett's Kingsbridge Series and Century Trilogy and I've read just about everything else by him. I also like Edward Rutherfurd (also read all of his at least once). I don't mind a bit of Suspense either and like John Sandford, Jonathan Kellerman, Faye Kellerman. Non fiction is also a possibility as long as it's interesting. I did like The smartest guys in the Room and Fat Leonard.

I've read Harlan Coben, John Grisham and pretty much most of the Classics (Willa Cather and John Upton are favorites).

I don't like dystopian anything or lots of sci-fi and Freida.

Any ideas?

I just finished watching "All her fault" after someone here suggested it. I really enjoyed the plot twists and the acting. I'd welcome suggestions of other shows like it. No horror please.

UPDATE: I didn't jinx myself after all. It was a completely uneventful night.

I swear the guests I dealt with last night all jumped on this subreddit and divided everything we talk about up between them.

Call #1: "Do you have any Rooms?"

"Yes, we do. Would you like to make a Reservation?"

" No thank you, we do it online?"

Newly checked in Guest comes back downstairs. He proudly told me earlier that he has stayed here many times before - several years ago.

"There's no Ashtray in my room."

"Sir, we don't allow smoking in the Rooms."

"But you did the last time I stayed. When did it change?"

"About five years ago."

Right before shift change a Truck pulls up in front of the lobby doors. A call comes in at the same time.

"Hi, we made a Reservation online. What time is check-in?"

"Check in starts at 3pm, Sir."

And now let's say it all together. "BUT WE'RE HERE NOW!"

Thankfully tonight is my Friday. How much worse can it get?

We own a 9 month old Border Collie Mix. To say that she's energetic is an understatement. I just came off a 12 hour shift (I work overnights) and, while I was ready to head for bed, the dog wasn't. After a quick breakfast for both Dog and Cat all three of us went outside. It was the Zoomies for the first five minutes, then a review of a few commands, working on recall (she's 80% there) and doing Business. Playtime for her was actually more training: Getting her to heel while I have her beloved tennis ball, throwing the ball but making her wait before letting her retrieve it, more command training and a good long run of 2 miles on the leash. I'm ready to collapse, she's good for the moment.

This is what owning a dog means. No matter how tired you are, how sore or how miserable the weather is - your dog needs daily reinforcement and mental and physical stimulation.

We have a lovely older couple that has stayed with us just about every month for several days. When they leave their room is always immaculate, they greet staff by name and the only thing they ask for is an extra towel or a roll of toilet paper. Couldn't have better and nicer guests........

The 3-11 person finally put it all together with the help from the housekeepers. The woman will go into the breakfast room, grab two cups of coffee, a couple of bagels, two pieces of fruit and some butter, cream cheese and jelly packets and return to the room without eating any of it in the dining room. A while later the husband will come in and do the same. Then they both come in and actually have breakfast. Then they leave, come back about two hours later, right before breakfast ends and take a few more bagels, fruit, yogurt, etc. back to their room. They do this every day.

First the Wife, then the husband will approach every housekeeper and the desk clerk for an extra towel/washcloths/bathmat and toilet paper and tissues. On every shift.

Housekeeping paid a bit more closer attention to them and realized that often pillowcases are missing, before they strip the beds. Last time when they left we were missing a king size blanket.

The Boss decided that, despite them being such a lovely couple, we will inform them that they are not able to return to our Hotel.

I know people steal, but these two basically set themselves up for a month supply of tissues, toilet paper and a bathroom full of towels.

Guest arrives about a half hour after start of my nightshift.

"I tried to book online, but it says you don't have any rooms available."

"We are fully booked, Sir"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, sir I am sure. We have no rooms available until Thursday night."

"But this is such a small town, what could you possibly have going on that you are fully booked?"

"There are several large Area events."

"Okay, weird, but okay. If I slip you some extra money, can you let me have your secret room? I know all hotels have them."

"Sorry Sir, we don't have a secret room, we are just fully booked."

Guest finally leave not without a threatening "Well, we'll just go across the Street to the other Hotel."

Good luck with that, they already called me two hours ago to see if we have any Vacancies - they're full as well.

What purpose exactly do hanging dead crows serve?

My mind sometimes goes a bit crazy, but surely this is wrong.

Came to work last night and saw that we had about 40 Motorcycles (all Harleys) parked in the lot. All the Riders were in one end of the building. They were in our Dining Room having a get together and were super respectful. They kept quiet (or as quiet as you 60 people can be), cleaned up all their trash and took it to the Dumpster eventhough I told them they don't have to. They washed off tables and then came out and told me how much they enjoyed their stay at our property.

This morning they checked out after an early breakfast and each and every one took a swing by the front door to say good bye. Turns out they were a motorcycle group from Canada and I even got to practice my French a little bit.

Of course long time guest was complaining all the way about the motorcycles, the many people at breakfast and whatever else he could think off. He went back to his Room after I ignored him for about five minutes.

I ordered a dog toy from Vine that states multiple times in the description that it can be used as a tug toy. The materials used in the toy are very good and sturdy but when I played tug with the Dog (32 pound border collie mix puppy), the elastic snapped and hit her in the face. She's a bit of a drama queen, but she yelped and hid between my legs and pulled her head back when I touched her nose. So it probably hurt quite a bit.

I currently have this sitting in my draft section with a three star rating because the materials used are good, but I'm thinking about downgrading it to a one star because I imagine a small child tugging on one end with dog on the other and the elastic snapping into the childs face.

Any thoughts?

I've read everything from my favorite Authors and would like to find books in similar styles. I love Edward Rutherfurds historical novels and have read everything by Ken Follett, Jeffrey Archer, Fred Mustard Stewart and the like. I prefer historical novels, especially ones that are set in victorian England but I dislike Romance. Any suggestions?

I've read a few posts from Sellers where they complain about not getting reviews at all/timely reviews.

Will they be notified if an item arrives broken/unusable or if I receive an entirely wrong item?

My RFY is taking some time off. This was approved by Keychain and Graduation Stole. They will return whenever they feel like it.
