Especially for Maharashtra, this is where casteism will show up the most. Dalits and tribals are asked "you have ganpati in house?" The moment you say no. There will be an ick on their face. they will also ask you further questions if you have devi at home just to confirm if you are dalit. Cuz some North Indians and brahmins don't have ganpati at home.

Don't worry they're not asking it cuz they're curious about the type of Ganpati you have at home or what decorations you have.

They're asking to check what caste are you so that next time they post casteist stuff on instagram stories or comments they'll mention you "my dalit friend doesn't keep ganpati at home they don't respect our culture why should we respect them" this is real incident btw.

I remember my city's subreddit Pune. When there was ambedkar jayanti, phule jayanti these people were making the most casteist slurs possible. The moment there's ganesh chaturthi they start posting "oh my friend ganesha..."

And let's not forget the pollution is does to the rivers and water bodies.
