Hoarse and dry throat prodrome before manic symptoms

Just anyone else have the hoarse voice and dry throat before and during their mania? And then when the hoarseness goes away you know the mania is gone?

Tip: Robinhood downgrades 3% cashback for multiple similar or duplicate purchases on monthly repeated basis

So two of my friends had their Robinhood cashback downgraded to 1%. And based on others complaints about being downgraded, I think Robinhood’s flags rewards violations when you buy same or similar items multiple times on monthly or repeated basis - especially for high dollar purchases.

- Friend 1 downgraded for buying thousands of dollars of Labubus from PopMart.
- Friend 2 downgraded for remodeling home and spending thousands of dollars at Home Depot and Lowe’s.

Robinhood’s has access to Level 3 data, so it knows what you are buying.

Other examples of what will get you downgraded:
- Buying multiple used computers monthly
- Buying multiple of the same Lego set repeatedly
- Buying 4 tickets for multiple concerts (you only need 1-2)
- Multiple transactions for in game purchases in the hundreds
- Repeated TikTok coin purchases
- Buying thousands of dollars of Pokemon cards from Costco
- Buying $$$$ of Labubus to get the secret monthly

It’s unfortunate that Robinhood’s algorithm can’t differentiate between an expensive hobby and business purchases. But if you want to keep the 3% just be cognizant about buying high dollar amounts of the same/similar items repeatedly over months.

Can new companies entering a market push prices down after tariffs are removed?

I am told that companies will keep prices steady after tariffs end and instead retain greater profits.

Over the long term, however, do prices decline when new entrants accept smaller margins and trigger a broader reduction?

Can edging a partner 3 times a day cause permanent damage.

I love edging my partner. Nothing hotter than hearing him moan.

Would the extended edging cause permanent damage in the future like priapism. No issues at the moment.

Should this be a concern? Or anyone have long term issues?

Meeting others with bipolar who are well controlled and living normal lives

How do you meet others with bipolar who have it under control and just live normal lives?

Living my life without being able to be open about a part of me is isolating at times. I have friends now and family, but they don’t really know what it feels like. I hide or don’t discuss my bipolar disorder with any of my current friends because I lost all my previous friends after my first/only hospitalization. I know how to hide myself away when I’m manic/hypomanic and make sure not to open my mouth to discuss profound ideas during those times. I also make sure to take my daily Lamotrigine.

I’ve been to a quite a few support groups to try and make friends. But everyone there is usually really sick (depression wise), hyping up the benefits of earth minerals, still hospitalized, or distant/avoidant after the meetings. My only means of talking to others with bipolar is on this Reddit.

Any advice on where to meet others with bipolar disorder that I can be open with and just have fun?

(My intention is not to offend or be insensitive to anyone with this post)

Inheriting homes without getting reassessed property taxes seems unfair and promotes inequality in San Diego by subsidizing the wealthy

I just found out what my friend pays for her 4 bed SFH on Governor (University City). It is literally a quarter of the property taxes I pay for my 2 bed room condo. She inherited this from her grandparents.

I love my friend and nothing against her. She didn’t do anything to get this benefit. Just California rules seem to subsidize generational wealth building and promotes the wealthier getting more wealthy. New homeowners have to disproportionately shoulder costs from funding city services.

I just wish she’d recognize her privilege. She opposes the new development near the trolley station and University Square because “Governor doesn’t have the infrastructure for the new homes and that it will impact home values.”

Edit: New housing will probably always be a topic she and I don’t see eye to eye on. It’s also not anything to lose an unconditional friendship of over 10 years over though. Friendship and my housing views are separate things.

US cities need to copy what Austin Texas did

I see reports that Austin Texas built so many homes (among other factors) that it dropped home prices by 25%.

Everyone thinks it’s bad, but to me that’s a good thing for society. A lot more people can now afford homes and there is housing stability for more people.

If people are living in homes, a 25% drop in home shouldn’t matter since they are living in the home. If it was investors that are affected by the price drop - even better because it means wealth is being re-distributed.

Government should do things to help drop home prices, not give in to protestors against building new homes/density because it will drop price of their own home.

How do I get myself to throw away items worth nothing but I paid $100-$200 for?

So I got bit by the collecting bug a few times, but have lost interest in them. I’ve collected crystals and minerals, Lego minifgures, Labubus (biggest regret), tons of Dewalt power tools when I was in my failed DIY phase, and old discontinued solid wood IKEA pieces of furniture. And the display cases.

Worse is the table saw, miter saw, and rowing machine that takes up 20% of my living room space.

All of these items collectively clutter up my house. I want to throw it away, but just can’t knowing how much I paid for it. So now I’m just stuck in a cluttered house.

My condo complex bans yard sales. Overwhelmed at the work to list items on eBay. Tried giving away the Labubus, crystals, IKEA furniture to family and friends, but everyone says they just don’t need it.

How can I get myself to get rid of these items? I honestly just want to throw these away without feeling guilty.

Will taking one IR stimulant dose every morning prevent needing drug holidays?

Currently on Adderall XR, but told I need to take drug holidays on weekends. Wondering if changing to immediate release in morning would prevent needing drug holidays because the effects on dopamine receptors would have worn off and the body is able to reset daily.

Entering current annual spending or expected annual spending in 20 years at retirement to calculate coast fire. What’s more accurate?

Trying to figure out how to accurately calculate my coast fire number. The coast fire calculator requires I enter my annual spending. Would this be my current annual spending or what I expect my annual spending to be in 20 years when I retire? If so, how can I estimate annual spending for 20 years from now. Would it just be my (current annual spending) x 1.03²⁰?

Brokerage (withdrawing $50k single filer) during retirement and ROTH IRA are same?

So my brokerage, Roth IRA, and 401k is all 100% VOO - nothing has ever been sold.

Not sure if this is true, but I’m beginning to think once I retire with no other income source, if I withdraw <$50k from brokerage as a single filer, it acts as the same as Roth IRA for all intent and purpose.

Would this be correct? Thinking if I can withdraw $50k from brokerage and then $50k from Roth IRA, I could get $100k tax free every year.

Is it better to trade stocks in tax advantaged accounts and store retirement investments (SP500 ETF) in brokerage? Also how does income affect capital gains rate?

I keep all my SP500 ETFs that I never sell in tax advantaged accounts and ordinary stocks in brokerage. I do this because I want my retirement investments to not be volatile. However would it be better to put SP500 ETF (for retirement) in brokerage if I never plan to sell them and then use tax advantaged accounts for stocks I sell and trade more often?

Also is single filer withdrawing $49k of capital gains in brokerage taxed at 0% rate (for first $49k) or entirely 15% since income is $270k?

Sorry, I’ve never sold a stock before, but wanted to get my feet wet with buying and selling stocks.

How much can I withdraw from taxable retirement accounts without getting taxed?

Just wondering if it’s possible to withdraw from taxable retirement accounts without being taxed. I think capital gains is 0% up to $50K. Can I withdraw more with the standard deduction and also the added $2,000 for seniors over 65?

Just wondering if it’s possible to withdraw from taxable accounts and never actually have to pay tax on it.

Waymo stops in middle of street

Was driving behind a Waymo the other day and it just stopped in the middle of the street at Garnet for no reason at all. Couldn’t go around or anything. Anyone else have that experience?

It just sat for a minute or two. Waymo needs to work out its kinks before expanding throughout San Diego. Waymo cars cannot just randomly idle in the street. It will cause a lot of traffic - especially in single-lane streets like Garnet.

Number of questions on sex have jumped drastically

Not sure if it’s just me but the number of sex questions on here has jumped drastically. Just a few months ago, maybe 10 to 20% of questions were about sex. Now it feels like half or more are.

Just wondering what brought the change.

Wish people wouldn’t say “there is no cure” when you first get diagnosed

When you receive a diagnosis, you may already be confined to a psychiatric ward or have lost everything or both. Telling someone at that stage “There is no cure” can make the deep despair feel permanent.

Wish providers would say “this is controllable,” or “there are things you can do to keep things from escalating in the future,” or “things will be okay; a normal life is possible.”

Simply stating “there is no cure” does not improve the situation.

Mainly bipolar individuals appear on news, not schizophrenic

Of late I keep seeing stories about bipolar individuals on the news. I don’t hear any stories about schizophrenia individuals. Not sure if it’s a thing and if so, why it happens.

Is that something you guys observe also?

Do MOST bipolar individuals just live normal lives?

I remember being in the psych ward and thinking that life itself had ended. It’s been three years since … and I feel like it wasn’t actually a death sentence … and that in fact many many bipolar people just live ordinary lives with families and successful careers.

Is that the case for you? For most?

(Don’t mean to offend or be insensitive to anyone if this is. It really just seemed like the end back then.)

US/like hack: ABLE accounts shield assets from being counting towards Medicaid asset limits

Open an ABLE account.

It shields up to $100,000 in savings from being counted against Medicaid/Medi-cal assets.

These accounts can hold stocks and are like Roth IRA accounts where any capital gains are tax free if withdrawn for housing/health/transportation/food costs. Only restriction is you must have a chronic condition documented before age of 46 - like bipolar.

Why so much hate for for the high-density Midway rising plan?

The area of Midway at Sports Arena really needs to be redeveloped. And they are planning 4,250 units with 7040 parking spaces. There is no “old neighborhood feel” as there is no neighborhood and thus no need to worry about property values. The only issue is that it will go above the 30ft restriction.

Only arguments I’ve found against going over 30ft:
- It may interfere with migration of birds
- Might interfere with planes landing
- Construction workers might not be union

I just don’t get the opposition.
