Can anyone help diagnose what I did wrong

Hi all!

I started developing my first rolls of B&W at home and the first two went perfectly.

However, on my third roll I really messed up. Very sorry if this has been asked before or it’s something that is very self-explanatory but can anyone help me with what went wrong here?

For context: it was shot with Kodak tri-x pushed to 1600, developed with Adonal/Rodinal diluted at 1:25 for 20 mi s, then washed with water and fixed with ilford rapid fixer (dilution is 1:4) for 5 minutes.

This roll was my 4th roll with the 300ml which I had reused.

Thanks everyone

Taylor’s “favourite” kebab

Okay, so apologies to you all if this has been posted before.

But I passed this Kebab shop in Kentish Town the other day and apparently it’s Taylor’s favourite kebab shop in London.

No disrespect to the guys who own the kebab shop, London is expensive and Swifties spend money.

But surely this must be performative/ some weak attempt to be relatable. Or am I just too cynical?

Edit: Friends I am accusing TS of being the performative one. I’m not faulting our friends from the Kebab shop for trying to make a little money. Instead, I’m criticising her for filming the video here trying to get relatable street credit

Most unhinged/surprising techniques for overcoming speaking plateau

Not looking for “just speak more”. I’m talking more personal/ odd advice for overcoming the feeling when you keep practicing but your language speaking practice seems to have stalled.

My comprehension has massively improved but I’ve been stuck at the same speaking level for a while now.

Looking for your most unhinged techniques for getting back in business.

6 months in Barcelona, 3 lessons a week, Spanish all around me. The problem isn't input.

Last weekend my girlfriend's mum asked me something simple and I understood maybe half of it. I knew what I wanted to say. I just couldn't get it out in time, so I smiled and nodded and her mum smiled back and I have no idea what I agreed to.

The thing I'm realizing is that immersion gives you input, not automatic speaking ability.

I hear Spanish every day. I understand more than I can say. But when someone turns to me and expects an answer, my brain tries to build the perfect sentence and nothing comes out.

The only thing that has helped is starting before I feel ready. I say the messy version and figure it out as I go.

Comprehension improves with input. Speaking improves by tolerating imperfect output.

For people who've lived abroad or done immersion: did speaking eventually click, or did you have to train it separately?

Got some shots I’m pretty proud of

Barcelona in the spring. Still getting used to the climate. The heat is a killer but pretty proud of these ones.

Shot with Polaroid SLR680 and 600 film

Big question.

What does everyone think of the hi-print? Would you all describe it as a worthy member to the Polaroid family?

I’m a pure instant film person but would love to hear your thoughts.

An honest take on the new Polaroid film

I have always been something of a Polaroid fan boy. Out of all the analog formats, whether it's vinyl, 35mm or any of the others, Polaroid has always been my favourite.

If a Polaroid film has been released in the previous 6 years (perhaps even longer on account of all the expired film I've shot), then I've probably shot it.

I've shot most of the Duochromes, some very very expired Impossible Project Magenta and Cyan, and all of the Reclaimed series.

Since I started shooting Polaroid film, the B&W has come a world away and the colour chemistry has improved a whole bunch as well.

That's what makes it pain me so much to say that Reclaimed Purple just isn't that good. I'm no Polaroid newb, but I have the following issues:

  1. I just can't get a good shot out of it. The dynamic range is too narrow and I never thought I'd see a film with such blown-out highlights and such dark shadows.
  2. Outside of a few photographers (Linus, Ben from In An Instant, and Julia Beyer) I've yet to see any truly convincing results. Though I must say, these people are practically magicians with Polaroid film.
  3. It's the one film I've encountered that makes me feel like a worse photographer. There are points where none of the packs have any redeemable qualities.

So maybe it's user error on my part, a fair point, or perhaps this experimental film is just the worst chemistry yet?

Apologies for the essay. I’m genuinely curious to hear your thoughts, and don't be shy in calling me out if you think it's just user error.

Most unhinged album cover in your collection?

I’ll go first: Underground by Thelonious Monk

Background of the album cover:

  1. Apparently the cow was real. The only word Monk said during the entire shoot was “moo”.

  2. The lady is Pannonica de Koenigswater apparently a jazz patron who joined the free French army to fight against Nazi Germany

Got to meet John Wilson

Not sure if this is the place for it however I’m very excited.

My girlfriend got me tickets for the screening of John Wilson’s new project in Barcelona.

Accosted him with a Polaroid camera. Very happy and 100% recommend “The life of concrete”.

Got a fresh take

Now this might be a controversial take but An Ra (my favourite track off Fenian) might be Kneecap’s “We didn’t start the fire”, only not shite and written by Republicans. That is all.

Long story short, I moved to spain pretty suddenly and felt like I was getting nowhere with Spanish. I've got a Spanish girlfriend who was very patient as I was making 0 progress. On my best day I'm cracking A2, at worst I've been kicked in the head by a horse.

About a month or so ago, I started taking two sessions a week of 50 minutes and honestly I've never had a teacher who made me feel this comfortable being wrong.

She's incredibly patient and I never feel patronised. A few things I love:

  1. She never corrects me mid-sentence, which helps with confidence.
  2. I really enjoy talking to her so no longer dread when lesson time comes.
  3. If i'm having an off day she never seems to run out of patience.

It probably sounds like such a small victory but last week I bought cigarettes, exchanged pleasantries with the guy behind the counter and didn't freeze once.

When you found your tutor, how did you know they were the one?

Didn’t intend on buying any albums on my last trip back home. But found a signed copy of Fenian by Kneecap and got Don’t Tap the glass by Tyler, the Creator from Golf Wang London
