Alright I’m probably looking too deep into this but it’s something that always bothered me about Color Splash even though I love that game. Please excuse my poor writing.

The one thing I found strange about this game was how evil Black Bowser’s plan was and how the Koopa Troop simply went along with it without any question. Alongside Bowser’s VERY different appearance, draining the paint from innocent toads and proceeding to use all the paint gathered to create black paint nukes which would most likely kill everyone is simply too evil for someone like Bowser. Two examples always come to mind:

- In Bowsers Minions, the captains were able to realize that Bowletta disguised as Bowser wasn’t actually him as Captain Goomba was told to “destroy Mario” which was too hard core even for Bowser. Nuking the world with bombs that would kill everyone also seems a bit hard core too.

- In The Origami King, Bowser is disgusted by Olly’s plan to erase all of the toads with his wish as the Toad’s can’t come back and that is something even he would never attempt to do. Meanwhile in Color Splash he is having his minions drain the paint from Toads who wouldn’t be able to come from it if Huey was never discovered and he didn’t give Mario the paint hammer.

My point here is that the minions are very loyal to Bowser and also know him very well that there are certain lines he would never cross. The fact that they willingly followed this plan of his is honestly kind of baffling. But I feel like there is a certain set of minions that should especially know Bowser very well: The Koopalings.

The Koopalings are very loyal to Bowser as they were able to resist Fawful’s initial wave of mind control gas and should definitely be able to see that something just isn’t right. That’s when I realized that the Koopalings weren’t really doing anything that bad in this game. All of them were either trying to secure or guard their respective Big Paint Star. They were definitely aware of the concept of how paint works but their plans didn’t really involve any kind of paint draining besides the Big Paint Stars:

- Morton was climbing the Crimson Tower for his Paint Star
- Iggy was guarding his in a coliseum
- Ludwig simply wanted to challenge Mario while guarding his Paint Star
- Wendy was guarding her paint star while waiting for Mario
- Larry hijacked the Sunset Express to catch his paint star
- And Lemmy was guarding his in his circus

While what they were doing is still evil, they don’t necessarily cross the line. Heck, I don’t even know if Kamek was doing anything besides enlarging and shrinking the forest and being a nuisance to Mario. However, there is one Koopaling left: Roy. Roy is the only Koopaling not involved with a Big Paint Star. Instead he is chilling in Black Bowser’s Castle. Additionally, he is the only Koopaling to actually utilize paint in his boss fight and straight up just create Black Paint while somehow managing to remain himself despite being covered in it.

This disparity between him and the rest of the Koopalings leads me to believe that there were two factions to the Koopa Troop in this game: One faction was ordered to simply cause mischief across Prism Island led by the six Koopalings and Kamek. They would also drain the paint from the areas and guard the Big Paint Star, but they don’t actually know the real reason why but it must be important so it’s fine. The other faction on the other hand, are the minions that are fully aware of the destruction they are about to commit and are led by Roy who is helping to operate the production of Black Paint. After all, he is the only one to fully utilize paint to his advantage and knew how to create Black Paint. Why is he the only Koopaling to be doing this? Idk he must be those type of people who go “ F it we ball”.

The only problem with this theory is the Toads being drained as it’s effectively killing them and it’s hard for any minion to just overlook that unless they are in on the destruction. Maybe Bowser told them that the Toads are fine and still alive but they just can’t show it.

TL;DR: There were a group of minions that didn’t understand the atrocities they were about to be apart of, a group that were aware, and Roy is a true agent of chaos.

Over time I’ve come to realize how good Tomoko’s confession scene is (just the confession)

In my eyes the confession scene for Tomoko is one of my favorites and lowkey one of the best ones in the game. I think it has to do with the fact that Tomoko’s crush on Wonder is established very early on so you can tell she has been waiting for this moment the entire time. It felt nice to give her the happiness she always desired and I think her excitement and joy were portrayed very well. Overall a very adorable confession and one of the best ones (at least just the confession).

Despite Tomoko’s synergy being Tomoko’s synergy, I really enjoy her confession scene

I want to reiterate that I’m talking about JUST THE CONFESSION ITSELF AND NOT HER RANK 15 because even though I like the confession, it’s smack in the middle of Kotone robbing Tomoko’s synergy before the crappy writer remembered who’s synergy it really is and the confession starts. If Tomoko had at least a 7/10 synergy then the confession would have been a hundred times more amazing. But despite that, I still really like the confession and consider it one of the best.
