Question about a phrase in Chapter 17 (spoilers for Book 2)

Minor spoilers for Book 2, Chapter 17.

I'm a bit confused by something Lockwood says before they head to the Bickerstaff house:

«"Well, it's that time of the afternoon. I'm going to stick a sword into a straw woman. Then I'm off to rest. If half the stories we've heard about this house are true, it's going to be an active night."»

I don't really understand what "stick a sword into a straw woman" means. Is it a British idiom, a historical or cultural reference, or just an expression I'm unfamiliar with?

If it gets explained later in the series, please just let me know that it does. I don't want any spoilers beyond this point. Thanks!

Inframe: Huma Qureshi, but I thought this was Ranbir Kapoor when I first saw this thumbnail

Is it just me or anyone else sees it too?

Books from male POV where he's falling for her

I want to be inside a man's head while he's completely losing it over a woman who isn't performing for him. She's not softening herself so he'll like her. She just exists and he cannot handle it.

Dual POV is also fine but I want real male interiority.

Most tired of: every female love interest feeling like a variation of the same girl. Quirky-but-insecure. Beautiful-but-doesn't-know-it.

The woman doesn't have to be indifferent exactly but she should have her own life. Her own logic. She's not orbiting him. He's orbiting her and she may not even know it.

Genre doesn't matter. Just give me that feeling of watching a man fall and not being able to stop it.

Edit: I didn't know who that person in the 5th picture was until the comments pointed it out. I'm so bummed I picked it and now I can't even remove it since Reddit won't let me. Just know, I really hate that picture's still in this post.

Has anyone read this book?

I am planning to read Bulle Shah's verses in punjabi, and came across this book on amazon. Is this good if you have read it? Is it biographical or more on poetry end?

Found a long hair in my burger from Wrapchick (via Zomato), "resolution" was a joke

We ordered 2 burgers and 2 wraps from Wrapchick Patiala through Zomato. My mother's burger had a long hair strand in it. We only discovered it mid-meal - by that point, the mood was completely ruined and none of us could bring ourselves to eat the rest of the food.

Honestly? I felt like vomiting.

What happened when I tried to resolve it with Zomato:

I raised the issue through Zomato's chat support. It's clearly AI-driven now. They asked me for a photo, fair enough, I understand people can fake things, so I sent one.

I'm attaching the full chat screenshot here so you can see exactly what I submitted and what response I got.

I want to be upfront - I know some of the images I sent are not perfectly clear. But some of them are. Clearly. You can see the hair without any doubt. I'm not making this up, and the pictures speak for themselves.

Their "resolution"? They informed the restaurant.

That's it. That's all.

• No refund.

• No real accountability.

• No follow-up with me as the consumer.

• No escalation to food safety authorities.

The restaurant was "informed." Great. Super helpful.

John Wick style world, but with a Sense8 group

I am looking for a John Wick type world but a group of individuals who are main characters, not just one.

John Wick World & Action + Group like Sense8

Listening to Go Gentle by Maria Semple right now, narrated by Saskia Maarleveld, and I’m really struggling with the narration.

The main narrative voice has this very raspy, whisper-like, almost grainy quality that I find super distracting. What’s strange is that when she switches into character dialogue, she sounds much more natural and varied, so it seems like a deliberate choice for the narration itself.

I’ve heard her in other audiobooks and didn’t love it, but this one is really not working for me.

Curious if anyone else feels the same, or if there’s a reason behind this style that I’m just not appreciating?

What's your favorite Punjabi movie ever, and why? I'm not looking for the usual recommendations, but something that really stands out to you and why. It can be popular, but something you feel close to.
