Walked in for a prayer plant, walked out with a prayer plant... and an Alocasia because apparently I lack self-control. Meet the new centerpiece!

I went out specifically to pick up this prayer plant, and honestly, it was a steal at $10. I was genuinely shocked at how beautiful it was when I actually got it in my hands. It’s absolute perfection sitting on my entryway ledge.

Naturally, though, the person I bought it from asked, "Do you want this too?" holding up an Alocasia, and for five bucks, I couldn't say no.

Now I'm officially curating a growing family of prayer plants and Alocasias. (It’s only been the last couple weeks as I moved plants in and out of the house that I actually have a focus like that)

This newcomer Alocasias is currently doing a dramatic horizontal balancing act while it adjusts to relocation, and it’s hanging out in strict quarantine camp under an LED light for the next couple of weeks just in case it brought home any uninvited hitchhikers from the outdoors.

The new prayer plant is close enough to get some of that LED light across the entryway but not close enough to share bugs if there are any.

Roast me for my lack of plant restraint accordingly. 😂

I need to vent. I gave some house plants to my neighbor and I am actively watching them commit botanical war crimes. 🌿😭

8 FB Marketplace steal: Soaking wet for 2+ weeks, but still praying like a villain. Repot or ride it out?

I picked up this prayer plant off Facebook Marketplace back on July 19th for eight bucks - a total steal since I’ve been wanting to add a second one to my home.

The sellers had a backyard absolutely loaded with cool plants, but they must have gone completely nuclear with the hose right before I showed up.

I took her upstairs to quarantine until this past Saturday, and the soil has been soaking wet since day one. I checked it yesterday with my moisture meter and it is literally still maxing out at a 10/10. I ended up bringing her outside for a bit yesterday just so the breeze could try and dry out the soil a little.

for the record I don’t do hanging plants so it’s not been hanging or anything like that

Here’s the weird part: despite living in an actual swamp for over two weeks, she’s somehow thriving?

She stands straight up at night like an absolute villain.
She’s actively pushing out new growth.

I’ve only had to trim off a couple of brown leaves.

I’m completely shocked she hasn't immediately collapsed from root rot.

Has anyone had a prayer plant sit in heavy/dense soil like this and stay unbothered, or am I playing with fire by not repotting her into a chunkier mix right away? Should I just keep waiting for it to dry naturally, or take action before the soil turns on her?

Heads up / Rant: Graphic anti-abortion demonstrators at Beddington Trail & Deerfoot exit

Just drove past the Beddington Trail and Deerfoot Trail interchange today and had the displeasure of seeing a whole group set up on both sides of the street.

It was a group made up entirely of women holding up massive, graphic anti-abortion signs with fetuses all over them.

I wasn't able to grab a photo while driving, (also I don’t wanna subject anyone to that nonsense )but consider this a heads-up if you're taking that exit today, especially if you have kids in the car or just don't feel like having graphic imagery forced on you during your afternoon drive.

Absolutely uncalled for.

Nursed her back from the brink… and now she’s standing straight up like she owns the place

Last year this plant was in rough shape. In October I picked a spot for her at the east window and added LED support through the cold season. By February she finally looked settled and content. in early May she started spitting out flower after flower (😳😳😳)and a multitude of new leaves consistently. I thought this was her forever spot and I would not shift her again.

July arrived and I had to slide her a little to avoid a bit of sunburn. She responded by standing straight up at a full ninety degrees. I have never seen her do anything like that. After everything she went through, seeing her lift like that was incredible.

She made me wait 11 months… but my Anthurium finally bloomed

After 11 months of treating this Anthurium like she’s the crown jewel of my house - humidity trays, pep talks, full spa service - she finally decided to bloom.

She truly took her sweet time.

But look at her now. My diva has arrived.
(And yes… these photos were taken one hour apart.)

My prayer plant has been thriving since April — flowering for a month straight! But I think she’s getting a bit sunburned… should I move her?

Title: Buyer beware: Golden Acre is currently drowning their snake plants

I went in today looking for some unusual snake plants for my upstairs railing. They had a great selection, but I was honestly shocked by what I found.
Every. Single. Plant. Was. Soaking. Wet. 💦

Like, literally dripping. These poor guys can go up to a month with no water, and they’re out here getting treated like they're in a rainforest.

I expected Walmart-level plant care from Walmart, but not from Golden Acre. Consider this a PSA to rescue them at your own risk!

TLDR: Money tree wrinkly leaves after a light change and maybe time to repot

How ironic I was having a similar question with my same plant as another poster. Since the beginning of May this girl has been in a much more indirect light location. Prior to that she was getting LED all winter and doing great in the East window.

I’m noticing a couple of wrinkly leaves right now and so I’m wondering if it’s all because of the move to more light. I already checked what I could see on the plant for elastic bands and some months ago I did remove one at soil level, but I never took it all the way out of the pot.

It was bought from a greenhouse and has done really really well. I’m not sure if it’s time to actually repot her and if so what kind of dirt should I be using?

Meet the newest member of the family! Bird’s Nest Snake Plant 😁any tips

I just added a "Bird’s Nest" snake plant to my collection and I am obsessed with how cute it is! It’s such a fun, compact little unit so different from my usual tall snake plants.

I’m curious has anyone here ever had one?

Are they just as easy and low-maintenance as the regular tall ones, or are there any special tricks I should know to keep this little guy happy?

Would love to hear how yours are doing!

Anyone else’s Snake Plant just… decided to droop?

I’ve had this snake plant for five years, and for the last six months, it’s been in the exact same spot getting plenty of sunshine. Prior to that I was trying to grow it in an upstairs bedroom that only had a north window. And while it survived it certainly wasn’t thriving.

I’m diligent with not watering it too much due to losing a major arm off of it a few few years ago due to that. I only flush water it less than once a month - sometimes up to six weeks —it drains perfectly on a rack in my tub.

While it seems to be doing well with new growth, you can see the two smaller stems are less than six months old. I’ve noticed the leaves have started to droop, which is a bit out of character for this kind of snake plant?

It doesn't look root-bound from what I can see at the bottom of the pot. Has anyone else dealt with a long-term, established snake plant that just started losing its structure like this?

Could it be time to just refresh the soil even if it’s not root-bound?
Looking for any advice or shared experiences!

My Kong Coleus Had a Full Meltdown and I Accidentally Started a Whole Plant Saga

So apparently I lost my mind for five minutes and accidentally overwatered my Kong coleus — like, full swamp conditions. She went from “lush statement queen” to “Victorian child recovering from illness” overnight. I ended up having to put her into rehab on the shade table because she was so dramatically unhappy.

Meanwhile, the front entrance was sitting there looking naked and judgmental, so of course I went to “just replace the statement piece.” Naturally I couldn’t pick one plant like a normal person. I came home with two brand‑new plants I’ve never owned before, because chaos is my gardening love language

I know I said I was done

I know I said I was done… but apparently I’m a liar because here we are again. I swore I was finished. I even said it out loud. Twice.

Everything outside looks great, I’m just waiting for Calgary to finally heat up so my plants can start acting like they live on Earth. But then my brain whispered, “What if Costco has the giant red dahlias today…”

And like an absolute addict with no self‑control, I went “just to look.” They had them. They only come in a three‑pack. I have already spent my life savings on plants this year. But at least these ones were from Costco, so it feels fiscally responsible. Good thing I still have plenty of soil left. 😁🌺🌻🌷🌸

THE GLOW-UP IS REAL. My Maranta is blooming!! 😭🌸

I am absolutely losing my mind today, you guys.

I have been fawning over this Lemon Lime Prayer Plant for the last year, trying to get it completely dialed in. It finally found its absolute "happy place" in the house, started pushing out gorgeous, vibrant new leaves left and right, and then I look over today and see... THIS.

I honestly didn't even realize they could bloom indoors so easily when they're happy, but this tiny, delicate purple and white flower just blew my mind.

Hard work, the endless location shuffling, and obsessing over soil/moisture officially paid off. I'm a proud plant parent today!
