Recently started becoming active and now I have so many little nuisances that I need to do more efficiently. I’m starting my last semester of college as a commuter in two weeks and am scared if I will have way too much on my plate.
So please take a look at this list of problems I’m encountering, and suggest me some ways to make them more efficient:
- Producing more laundry (roughly 5-6 extra fits per week from the sweat)
- Needing to shower after every workout, and going straight to school. I can’t gym after classes. I wear a hijab so wet tied up hair isn’t the best!!
- To add on, I have to carry so much (my school bag, my lunch bag, my gym clothes which will be sweaty, my water bottle)
- Macro tracking
I’m probably missing some but there are soooo many little things that add up. Please give me any tips lol thank you 🙏🏼
Not a PhD student (yet (hopefully)) but I am doing some research right now in the field I’m applying for.
I’ve been getting some minor results and have been showing them to my supervisors. For some reason I expected them to scrutinize every bit to make sure they’re right. But no, they place a lot of trust in them, interpret them with me, and tell me where to go next. Actually, sometimes they give me the intellectual freedom to decide what to do next.
It’s actually scary…what if I’m wrong? What if I made a silly error somewhere? Why are we trusting me again?
I just feel so much responsibility. This is no longer some silly little puzzle I’m solving. People are actually going to look at my results and start formulating theories about the world (hopefully (but not hopefully?)).
Man.
Were notifications already sent out? I thought they'd be out in June.
EDIT: They were not, I emailed the office. They responded: "Notifications have not been sent yet. We hope to have an update soon."
I emailed this professor who I am very interested in working with. I communicated my interests and directly asked if they’d potentially take new PhD students for Fall 2027. This is what they responded:
Thanks for your email! I am potentially open to taking new students, but since I will already have five students next year it will need to be an exceptional case.
So it seems like it’s a logistical issue, but I don’t know how to take this? Does this mean the door is closed for me?
I also don’t know how (or if) I should respond.
I'm applying to a school (PhD) that has just appointed a professor from another university, and I am very interested in working with them. They are joining the faculty this fall (2026), and I'm applying for next fall (2027).
My question is, how do I know if they are taking in PhD students? They've only had one student in the past.
Is it appropriate for me to ask? If so, how do I phrase it? This is literally my dream niche field in my dream school.

I have a professor who I took two courses with in the past year (semester ended a month ago) but he's leaving for sabbatical. I asked him when he'd be back, and he said he doesn't know, nor does he know if he'll be back anytime soon. Could come back after a year, maybe not. I heard that he's doing something in industry during the sabbatical but I'm not sure.
Anyway, I believe he'd be able to write me a strong LoR but I'm unsure if I should ask him now or what. I was thinking it's probably best when his memory of me is freshest (especially with sabbatical potentially taking his mind away), but I'm unsure of how to time it.
If I were to ask now, would he actually draft the LoR now and then send it in when apps open? What's the standard approach here?
Looking to buy one but I see that it's been a while since it was last updated. Also I hate the two toned colors, I can only tolerate the silver one.
