Have seen lot of such cases in this Sub and have tried to help most. This is important for everyone to know in Karnataka (There are avenues for rest of India also )

Karnataka Home Minister has directed, Consent to record is not consent to share.

He has asked the Dept of Home to make FIRs mandatory in cases of revenge pornography, sextortion and blackmail videos

Karnataka Police Department has issued Standing Order directing all police officers across the State to take strict and immediate action in cases involving the non-consensual publication, transmission or sharing of intimate/private images and videos.

Also remember, if you are a victim, there are lot of avenues open for u no matter where u are

Pata hai aaj kya hua? Happened just an hour back. Was going to office in an Auto. Was glued to my phone when auto driver suddenly stopped and was looking behind. I asked what happened? He said there is a man, fallen on the road side and bleeding. I asked accident but he said no. Two other guys in bike also stopped ahead. My Auto Driver said let me drop u to office and I will come and check. I said No.

I came out. Saw an old man, on the roadside bleeding. Went there. The Auto Driver also came. The two guys on bike also turned and came. In the meanwhile hundreds of bikes and cars crossed, they saw him but nobody stopped. We helped him sit. He was bleeding from nose.

The other two guys asked him where he stays (I don’t know the local language). They took his phone and asked for family members contact and called his son who said he is coming. We waited. All the time cars and bikes kept crossing but nobody stopped.

Finally reached office after he was safe. My auto fare was Rs 80. Gave him Rs 500. Good people need to be rewarded. Except him and those two guys on bike, it’s a shame that nobody else cared.

I often see posts here about someone being blackmailed or harassed over messages or calls by known people so here is some advice for all of them.

Always collect evidence like WhatsApp screenshots or call records but before that do an important thing. Remove the person’s name from your contact list. So that when you take screenshot it shows the number of the person who is misbehaving. Or if someone called you multiple times the number should reflect clearly. Just a name on a screenshot means nothing as evidence.

Dont delete any chats at all. Take screenshots of the full conversation showing dates and times wherever possible. Even if its long take multiple shots. For calls note down the dates times and how many times they tried. Save everything in a folder on your phone or email it to yourself as backup. If they are threatening to post intimate photos or videos save every single threat message along with any photos they have already sent you. Do not delete those either.

Once you have the evidence block the person immediately and stop replying completely. Dont argue dont explain dont send anything back. Engaging usually makes things worse.

If its blackmail or extortion never pay them or agree to what they ask. That almost never stops it and can make it worse. Go straight to the police or file a complaint on your local cyber crime portal. Show them all the messages and screenshots. Tell them exactly what the person is demanding and threatening especially if it involves intimate photos. There are specific laws against non-consensual sharing of private images and police can act faster on these cases.

For threats to leak intimate photos report it right away to the platforms too. On WhatsApp Instagram Facebook or wherever they might post you can report the account and use the revenge porn or intimate image abuse reporting option. A lot of big platforms will take them down quickly if you report with proof. Keep screenshots of those reports as well.

For ongoing harassment or stalking keep a simple log on your phone notes or a paper. Write what happened when and what was said or done. If they start threatening to come to your place or you see them around tell the police immediately and also let your family or close friends know so someone else is aware.

This stuff happens more than people think and the key is having clear proof with the actual number and not just saved names. Police take these cases more seriously when you have proper records especially with intimate image threats. If its getting really bad dont wait just go to the station or call the emergency line. They can tell you the exact next steps for your area.

Stay safe and dont panic. Get help from authorities or a lawyer if you need more guidance on filing stuff. There are also helplines for digital abuse and revenge porn victims that can guide you through the process.
