Help me!

I am new to Opinel as of spring this year (2026). I freaking love these inexpensive handy knives and have bought three so far.

Still learning about maintenance, though. Like, don't leave an open knife in a sink with dirty dishes (refer to the photos).

Performance isn't hampered, just looks.

Beside my trusty metal sandpaper, what are my other options?

NORMALLY...I wipe the blades clean and give them the 3-in-1 treatment.

What can I do to fix the looks of this blade, or is sandpaper my best choice?

Finally, some Opinelers have written about achieving patina on the blade. Does this protect better? How would I do this?

Thanks, and Happy Independence Day weekend!

Next...

Recently I discovered Knipex pliers. I ordered the smallest one for edc and LOVE it. It is probably useful for pulling ticks, hair, boogers, small stuff.

What is a decent step above? Not something to open a fire hydrant, but something hefty in the hand, something for edc, maybe about 10 inches plus or minus...

Puzzle pencil

Recently I got this mechanical pencil and love it. 0.7 mm...I wanted a bigger lead. I use it specifically for puzzle books. It is loaded with HB and works good.

Recently I ordered 2B hoping for something a bit darker.

I would like a heftier barrel though. I may start my mechanical pencil collection!

Rust is evil...

I lost this a few years ago. It was in my EDC. I found it a few days ago in the yard in this condition.

Other than sandblasting or a roll of 320 grit sandpapaper, what can I do to fix this?

Bestest...

These are the two most dependable and durable pens that I have owned.

They are inexpensive but not cheap. There are those that cost a lot more and are prettier, more comfortable in the hand.

I have accidentally put both of these through the clothes washer and dryer. Both came out and performed immediately.

When you need a pen you can depend on, get one of these.

#10 and #12

Recently I learned about Opinel knives. Thank you, Reddit. I keep a 9 in my kitchen, an 8 gardener for...well...gardening, and an 8 carbone for my EDC.

What are your thoughts on a 10 and 12? Are they EDC material? What do you use yours for?

Thanks!

Love Opinel

I have recently discovered Opinel knives...like January. The sub-Reddit is my daily fix.

These are not the best built knives, nor the most practical...

But I love them! I have bought 3 already and have eyes on 4 more. One is in my pocket every day.

What makes you love Opinel?

About to buy!

Yes...the time is half past midnight on a Friday.

I am 30 minutes away from ordering a Knipex for EDC. Looking at 5 inch, something I can maybe even carry in my pocket along with my SAK.

How about something with a few extra features...

Hit me up ASAP because I am about to buy! ☺

Knipex v Craftsman

Knipex offers a cool looking channel lock plier that seems to be the latest EDC craze. Heck, I am thinking about a 5 inch myself. Peer pressure...

I have a few Craftsman tools...just a few (wink). Unlimited lifetime warranty. I have a few sizes of Craftsman channel locks. Keep one in my vehicle.

I wonder, though, is Knipex any better than Craftsman? Or is Knipex the most recent EDC fad?

What makes Knipex so cool...over Craftsman?

Of course, I will buy one...

For an extra tip: I have a small Vice-Grip brand from which I replaced the adjusting screw with a circular eyebolt. Capabilities expanded ten-fold. Photo added...

Price Be Darned!

Hey fellow Swiss Army Knife obsessionados! (I invented that word.)

If price were not an issue, what would be your top three choices for Victorinox pocket knives?

This isn't necessarily the top three most costly. What three would be the most practical to YOU?

Other than wanting to know what you like, prefer, and I am interested, I need ideas for my next few knives.

Became a semi-SAK collector last year. I don't have a favorite and usually carry a different one each day. This includes my Opinel knives.

Currently my SAK collection includes Huntsman (my first), Rambler, Classic SD black and also a silver Alox, Waiter, and Spartan.

Again, what are your top three...whether you own them or not?

Thank you!

Free ideas...

I am not sure where to post this but EDC seems to be a nice place...

My wife...gorgeous and so humble... Has an addiction to Amazon. She buys...and buys...and buys. God love her. If she Werent so pretty and so loving and a good wife then I would trade her for a truck.

But....we both make bank. We don't want or need.

Yet, how can I get her to turn back the Amazon dial?

Alternately...what can I start buying to let her know that I am with her in buying mode?

We arent rich. We do well. I love her til death. I have talked to her about her online spending.

I rarely buy online. What can I buy that will get her attention ?

Help!!!

My wife is asking for suggestions for gifts for Fathers Day, my birthday, Christmas, and so forth. I sent her a bunch of links, yet I would like to have a multi tool she can choose from. I would like to have something bigger than a Gerber Dime yet I don't need a 150 blade extreme Bear Grylls.

I have Googled and searched so much that I am overwhelmed. Can I get some Reddit suggestions? Maybe under $100, dependable, good for edc, got the basic tools, nothing cheaply made... You know what I am talking about.

#8 Garden curved handle...

Recently I bought, among a few others, a #8 Garden, which has a narrowed curved handle, as compared to the cylindrical full handle.

A Redditor asked me why the handle on the Garden is this way. I had no answer, other than maybe the handle is made for fingers and not a palm grip.

Therefore, unless someone dethrones me, I am the Opinel King of Garden Handle describers.

Someone tell me otherwise. I would like to know the real reason if mine isn't correct.

New Opinels!

These three are my introduction into the Opinel world: #8 Garden, #8 Carbone, #9 Carbone.

The first will be for my plants. The second will be for carry. The third will be for the kitchen.

I will see how they do and get more as I need (want) them.

Sell me on an Opinel

I want to like Opinel knives. I have been reading comments about them. A number 8 carbon seems to be the most popular.

There are a LOT of knives in my possession. Each style is dear to me, like Old Timer and Victorinox.

I want to like an Opinel, but I am not sold. Somebody tell me about yours and why you like it. Please don't give me links and pics. Give me reasons why you like yours.

Thanks!

My first cast iron pizza!

Inspired by cast iron pizza makers in this sub, I made my first two today. Pictures are before and after baking.
