Here's my newest, a replica of the Heuliez Yeoman Mechanic. A Victorinox custom from around 2011 for Heuliez (a french manufacturer), it was never offered to the general public until Swissbianco made his with some notable differences; the Swissbianco had the hook with file, and the mag lens/phillips layer in the middle which made it even better. It also had the then new larger mag lens with the clear frame. The Heuliez replica differs from the real ones in that it does not have the "Heuliez"- branded scales, the scissors pivot is not dimpled, and the eyeglass driver is hex instead of round. 2nd picture is with the Swissbianco replica for comparison.

Last year I finished the classic LE collection, this year i have finished the pioneer/pioneer x LE collection with my birth year soldier at the top 😁 now I just need to resist the hunter/ cadet LE set 😂

So this is definitely NOT a spartan. I know that. Fairly new to Victornox and wanted something with stayglow scales. Any idea what this would be worth? Did they even make craftsmans with stay glow? Thanks

Was looking to replace the toothpick and tweezers on this Swiss Army knife I’ve had with me for a long time, anyone know where I could locate some?

Also, can anyone date this model?

I stopped in at a local pawn shop on a whim and while looking through the cases I noticed what appeared to be a SAK in a leather sheath. I took a look at it, it was dirty, but nothing was missing or broken, all it needed was some TLC. The price on the tag was marked out and a "10" written on the back. I asked how much it was since the price was scratched out and the guy said it must be $10. They didn't have to tell me twice and said I'll take it.

It wasn't until I got home that I was able to ID it as a Victorinox Huntsman.

I made the paracord one for her, she added the balloon animal. She's also looking into getting replacements for the toothpick and tweezers, but she's not sure what color she wants, so any suggestions concerning that are welcome! 😊

I am going to try to be as objective as possible but, if I am honest, I am not a fan of the Classic line. My 58mm of choice is the Midnite Manager - but that is a future review.

The Classic SD is ubiquitous and to my knowledge, Victorinox's most sold model. It makes sense. The 58mm line is intended to be clipped onto keys and forgotten about until it is needed. While their tool sets are limited, just having them can make all the difference.

The knife photographed originally had advertising scales for a crewing boat manufacturer - the long rowing boats you see at the Olympics. I swapped them out for these standard black ones and added red scale tools. I think the red makes the black pop. It was thrown in for free on an ebay listing with a Nail Clip 580 - that is also a future review.

It currently lives on my backup keys while my second Midnite Manager is at Victorinox Service. Hopefully getting new scales.

The Specification:

The Great:

The sheer collectability of the thing. There are an uncountable number of variations of the Classic SD. Victorinox (US) website alone, I counted 68 versions and every distributor has their own exclusive scales. I often complain that Victorinox does not offer enough color options. I cannot say that about the Classic SD.

The Size. Its compactness makes it disappear on your keys or in your pocket. I think the Classic SD shines as a secondary tool or emergency backup. It is something you can forget about - until it saves you a$$.

The Really Good:

I do have complaints about the Classic SD tool set. Especially the odd choice of having the knife on the same side as the keyring. Writing up this review, I realized something. The blade is not this model’s primary tool. It's the scissors. Victorinox’s scissors are excellent, even the 58mm ones. You have a blade, but you use the scissors. That realization actually improved Classics in my eyes. It really makes the bladeless Jetsetter/Companion S Alox more compelling.

The Mid:

The blade is super thin and not suitable for anything but the lightest work; but that is about all I would want to do with this size of SAK. That said, because it is so thin you can get it scary, razor sharp. The last photo compares the blade to a 65mm and 74mm models.

The textured nail file and small screwdriver are perfectly usable. Not substantial, but great to have if needed. The nail file might be my most used tool here.

The Bad:

The Size. I know, I said the size made it great. Objectively that is true. Subjectively, I hate it. I have bigger hands so the thinness makes it fiddly [for me]. I feel like I can never get a good grip and just do not enjoy using it. This is probably why I prefer the Midnite Manager. Its added thickness just feels better in my hands.

The Bottom Line:

I am still not a fan but I totally get why so many people are. It is a remarkable bit of industrial design. I can totally see how fun collecting all the different designs and limited editions would be. I have seriously been temped to buy a Classic SD with cool cutom scales, even though I know I will probably never use it.

I would have a hard time using a Classic SD as my only SAK but just having it on your keys for when you need it could be a life saver. I will stick with my Midnite Managers but maybe I do not hate it as much as I did before starting this review.

To be clear, I do not hate any SAK. If you love and collect Classics, then all the power to you.

Found this at the TSA store today, I would appreciate any info on the production time frame, based on my research it's 1953-60, but early 74mm stuff is not my forte.

I feel like I stole this for $3.

I call it the deluxe companion. The peening is a little wobbly on the file but aside from that it’s perfect. How would you call this?

I’m incredibly thrilled to share something today that might just be considered a true "Holy Grail" for vintage Wenger collectors.

This was originally a gift to me, but as I began researching it myself, I quickly realized just how historically significant this piece actually is. To be honest, seeing this museum-grade condition in front of me makes me feel a bit overwhelmed about whether I can properly preserve it myself for the future. While I am thinking of eventually passing it on to a truly deserving enthusiast who can care for it, I just couldn't wait to share this excitement with all of you first!

It’s an early Wenger Cyclist (Model 1.35.11) in absolutely immaculate, factory-fresh condition. What makes this a complete miracle for any SAK historian is the absolute synchronization of all its elements:

* The Blade: It features the rare early 4-line engraving with the famous Crossbow (Bowgan) stamp.

* The Scale: The silver bicycle metal inlay is beautiful and remains in excellent vintage condition.

* The Paperwork: It comes with the original red box ("LE COUTEAU SUISSE VÉRITABLE") and the classic large-can-opener-illustration warranty paper printed in Switzerland.

* The Box Label: Most amazingly, the original Cyclist-specific silver factory sticker is still perfectly attached to the side of the box, remaining in its exact as-shipped condition from decades ago.

* The Ultimate Proof: On top of that, the original factory paper sticker "13511" is still attached to the handle, perfectly matching the box label "1 35 11".

* The Mythical "76" Number: As many of you know, there is a legendary debate among enthusiasts that the number "175 246 76-J" on the warranty card indicates a 1976 pre-production/test-marketing run before its official 1979 catalog release. This exact piece might be the actual living proof of that myth.

Mine just turned up today, and it’s so much better than I expected. You get your modules and just click them on to a de-scaled Victorinox and you’re set, you can swap and change them around too. With the mag sets and docks you can also use it as a fidget slider, which is what I wanted, or just use the modules as a slider.

Honestly I’ve wanted a fidget knife for ages, but in the UK with strict knife laws it seems an almost impossible find to have one I can legally carry with me, and with this since I generally always carry a Victorinox as part of my EDC anyway, it’s perfect.

Also, need to give the creators (Keyport) a massive kudos as I messed up on my order on kickstarter, and the team over there sorted it straight out with no hassle, super happy right now.

I just picked up this Cadet in a regional online auction site. I have not received it yet so the pictures are from the auction listing. It appears to be a [almost] NOS cadet with the original ribbed alox scales. It has the nail file that was introduced in 1986, so I know it is newer then that. The auction was all silver, gold and collectible coins...and one SAK.

What I do not know is when the current checkered scales replaced the originial ribbed scales. Anyone know? Also can anyone tell me when Victorinox used this box design?

As I said, I have not received it yet, so I cannot get a better picture of the tang stamps. It is only shipping about 150-miles so I should have it soon. I will post tang stamp pictures when I can.
