Local find

I stopped in at a local pawn shop on a whim and while looking through the cases I noticed what appeared to be a SAK in a leather sheath. I took a look at it, it was dirty, but nothing was missing or broken, all it needed was some TLC. The price on the tag was marked out and a "10" written on the back. I asked how much it was since the price was scratched out and the guy said it must be $10. They didn't have to tell me twice and said I'll take it.

It wasn't until I got home that I was able to ID it as a Victorinox Huntsman.

Retromod Recce Paint Options

Trying to figure out what camo pattern to use on my retromod recce and played around on the gun part picker website with some different options.

A. Rattlecan woodland - fast, easy, effective

B. Colt Z-Cote-style that's like woodland tiger stripe. It was used on a limited run of rifles back in the day and looks cool. I'd have to make some basic stencils for it.

C. Rhodie-like 3-color pattern - I'd have to make up some stencils but it looks cool.

A, B, or C?

Retromod Recce

I'm working on a retromod recce rifle inspired by the Daryl Holland recce rifles. Nothing fancy, I took one of my AR's that wasn't doing anything and added a mix of parts. The tube and FSB are from Fulton Armory and since I was using an existing mid-length gas barrel I modified the sight base to use set screws and cut the tube accordingly. Rail sections are from a Weaver base for a Savage Axis because the bottom is rounded and the hole spacing is equal front to back. The riser is from Weaver and the BUIS is a MBUS Pro LR. The optic is a Gen 1 Vortex Strike Eagle in the cheapest rings Vortex offers. The light is the M951 I was issued back in 2004 except the original mount wouldn't work with the rails so I used a cantilevered 1" Weaver ring.

I made some accuracy enhancements to the rifle by lapping the face of the receiver and shimming the barrel extension when I put it all back together. The B5 stock was pretty wobbly so to help with that I put some velcro in the bottom of the channel to help tighten it up and a small bit of skid tape helps keep a rear bag in place.

I'm making some small adjustments to the build, swapping out the cheap rings for QD Warne rings and the grip for a B5 LS2 grip.

After that it'll be a new paint job.

Mock12 Mod Juan

I assembled this a couple years ago and sadly I don't give it all of the attention that it deserves.

BCM M4 upper

BCM BCG

BCM QRF-12

White Oak Armament 18" SPR barrel

BCM gas block

AE brake and collar

NF 2.5-10X24 w/ mildot reticle (I've had this scope 16+ years by now)

NF Unimount

Magpul Pro Offset Sights

Aero lower receiver

A5 RE

Vltor E-Mod stock

Ergo grip

Geissele SSA-E trigger

With IMI 77gr match it will consistently do 1 MOA and it's a very smooth shooter.

My every day carry

I've been carrying a Victorinox Hiker as my EDC knife for the past couple of years. I've owned it since I was younger but wanted something more practical for day to day use. Recently started wearing my 1990's Swiss Army Brand watch too.

To round out my pocket litter I also carry a small Rite In The Rain pen and Bic lighter.

GPRetro

A couple weeks ago I was looking at my AR's and two of them were basically the same so I figured it was high time to change things up a bit. I'd always admired the toob builds so that's the direction I went in, a Holland Recce inspired build.

I used a Fulton Armory tube, cutting the notch for the FSB using a drill bit to locate the corners and a Dremel tool with a cut off wheel. The FSB was modified to take set screws on the bottom and I added a hole at 6:00 to hit the rear most set screw.

The side rails are from a Savage Axis Weaver rail because that's what the local gun store had that had a radius and was all the same height from to back. They were modified to accept 6-32 X 1/4 flat head screws tapped directly into the tube.

I didn't want it to look too modern with a cantilever mount so I used a Weaver brand pic riser and Leupold Rifleman rings to mount the optic. The gunstore had A2 grips for $4 so I picked one of those up and ordered a B5 CAR stock to round things out. It was fun putting this together, thanks for looking.
