[LES] No, the Horus Heresy would not have benefited from consulting a theologian before writing the Emperor
A common criticism leveled at the Horus Heresy books is that the Emperor of Mankind sounds like a reddit atheist, and that the writers should have consulted actual theologians before writing him.
That is wrong. The Emperor is supposed to sound like a reddit atheist. The Emperor is just not interested in a theological debate. He expects to be obeyed with at most token questioning, and preferably not even that. He believes his crusade to be so self-evident that any opposition must be acting in bad faith. He is a tyrant and has always been a tyrant.
Also, from the start, the Imperial "Truth" that the Emperor tried to spread was something he knew was false. It was never the "rational, atheistic understanding of the universe" he purported it to be, it was a strategic lie spread with the intent of denying power to his enemies.
10000 km seems good, right? Wrong! Tyranny of the Rocket Equation!
If HMS dreadnought was in a book you'd think it was satire about the military-industrial complex
Highest Mathematically Possible Bourgogne DPM
I run a Furious build on my Bourgogne. It's led to a couple of funny moments when someone flatsided me after I fired thinking they were safe because they didn't know I had an on-demand 10 second reload. After a while, I started wondering, just how far down can I push the reload on these guns?
It starts simple, with Bourgogne himself. A 28-second reload with the main guns, down to 24.6 seconds with Main Battery Mod 3, and cut in half by his Main Battery Reload Booster, for a total of 695,455 DPM.
From that, we add in commander skills. Super Heavy AP shells increases AP shell damage by 7.5%. Furious gives up to a 30% reduction in reload time if you have five cumulative fires and floods, and Close Quarters Combat gives a 10% buff to reload time if you have enemy ships spotted within your secondary battery range. Adrenaline Rush reduces reload by .2% per 1% of ship HP lost. At 50% HP, it gives a 10% reduction, and at 1% it gives 19.8%. All this gives a maximum possible DPM of 1.48 million, for about half a second before the fire and flooding kills you. So the question becomes "how much HP do I need to get full use out of my reload booster?".
Each fire burns .3% of Bourgogne's HP away per second, and each flood does .5% per second. This means the ideal combination of fires and flooding for Furious is four fires and one flood, for a total hp loss of 1.7% per second, or 34% of his HP over the course of his 20-second reload booster, and so he would need to be at just over 34% of his HP, let's call it 35%. But, like every battleship, Bourgogne has a heal, which restores .5% HP per second, increased to .6% with the India Delta signal, reducing HP loss to 1.1% per second, or 22% HP. This is reduced even further by SHAP, which reduces fire and flooding damage by 10%, allowing Bourgogne's HP to be as low as 19.6% This gives a total DPM of 1,414,070.
We can do better.
Special commanders, like Jean-Jaques Honore, have improved talents that can increase DPM even more. Honore has an improved Adrenaline Rush skill, .25% per 1% lost HP instead of .2%, giving 1,485,216 DPM.
Auboyneau can do even better. For each devstrike you get while running him, you get a 5% buff to main battery reload. This can proc up to three times (technically it's not capped right now, but that will change in a couple days and I don't want this overly high-effort shitpost to be outdated that qickly), for a 15% bonus. This gives a total of 1,663,612 DPM.
But wait, there's More!
Let's play Arms Race.
There are three buffs in Arms Race that come into play here. At their max levels, arms race can give ships a 30% damage increase, a 30% reduction in main battery reload time, and restore .06% of a battleship's HP per second (other classes restore different % of HP, but they don't matter here). With the massive boosts to alpha and reload speed, we hit 3,098,427 DPM.
And I have been lying to you this whole time.
Adrenaline Rush gives a bonus that increases over time. The numbers I've shown only use the buff it gives when the reload booster is activated, and do not account for how it changes over time. For that we want to take the average HP the ship has over the course of his reload booster, which, since fires and flood do constant damage, is equal to the HP 10 seconds into the reload booster, or 9.7%.
And so, if playing a Bourgogne with Main Battery Modification 3, running Auboyneau as your commander with the Super-Heavy AP Shells, Adrenaline Rush, Furious, and Close-Quarters Expert skills, after devstriking three enemy ships, in Arms Race, after your team has picked up three each of the Healing, Damage, and Reload buffs, while an enemy ship is within secondary battery range, when you use your reload booster with only 19.6% of your max HP left, and nobody shoots at you (and no torpedoes or secondary battery shells hit you) during that time, you can get up to 3,164,223 damage per minute for twenty seconds. You will be able to deal up to 1,054,741 damage in that time, firing your main guns approximately once every 3.7 seconds.
These conditions will never occur in game, but this was fun to think about.

I was nice to an empire once and they nominated me as Galactic Custodian
This empire just developed FTL, and I chose the "nice" dialog option to greet them to the galactic assembly, and a few minutes later I checked the Galactic Community screen to check on the resolutions that had been proposed and I saw that they had nominated me as Galactic Custodian.
Do not let the hate cult decide who is really American
Sewing Patterns
What are some good places to find sewing patterns for gothic and military lolita clothes? A lot of the stuff you can buy is kind of expensive, and (like so much fashion) I haven't found many green options. But I know how to sew, and so finding patterns would fix both problems. (And I'm hesitant to buy 100% polyester stuff, which a lot of alt fashion stuff I've found in general has been, which sewing can also fix).
