Post Hyatt world - what will you be doing next?

Tomorrow is the big day to see how point values change.

If they drop as expected - and points are worth 30% less, how will that change your calculus on which hotel programs and credit cards to go after?

I moved to Hyatt 3 years ago after being a Marriott loyalist for 10+ years. Too many people all trying to stay at Marriott and the properties were not keeping up and everyone was platinum or higher, so status didn’t get you much.

When I went all in on Hyatt, I also had Hilton as the next best choice but after two devals, I’ve kept IHG as my second choice bc it’s very very predictable, easy to earn and buy, great 4th night benefit. Not great for other credit card partners though.

Here is my take- I think I will drop Hyatt to 2nd choice and promote IHG to the top. IHG doesn’t have as many stunning properties, and is not as advantageous as globalist (club lounge and free parking and all), but you get the upgrades and breakfast and reasonable / predictable points bookings. I’m on my way to diamond already (via CSR spend). Interested on how others will shift.

For Hyatt I will use for lower end properties where point values go far and I can bring the whole family. And when that isn’t available, holiday inn express it is ;)

I also think points boost on chase will become a lot more valuable so will keep points there versus transferring to hotel partners.

The Hyatt party was great while it lasted….

Update: good discussion and some convincing points made that it’s not all about the “points”, which I agree with. The service and benefits of being globalist are great and better availability for loyal customers is something that could keep me loyal to Hyatt. If they lose those benefits and don’t give good availability, then, yes, I’m out!!!!

Chase Shut Down Points Transfers to Partners Night of Hyatt Devalue

Amazing...They just turned transfers off around midnight ET. Is this normal?

Edit 1:22 et. Still down

I think chase is having a mass migration of points. I’m estimating several billion points today. If 100-300k people moved 50k points on average we are talking 5-15B points. That’s $50-150m dollars moving. Hyatt is probably in lock down mode at this time. Their database can’t even handle the load (emails aren’t being sent, I also wonder if inventory itself is being displayed properly and if there are redundant writes happening). Let’s see what happens.

Grand Hyatt Kunming - Impressions?

I am booking a five night stay in Kunming Grand Hyatt. It looks quite impressive, but very little information online unfortunately - few images, some reviews - but trouble getting some in depth information.

Some of this information may be relevant to those who are globalist and visiting.

  1. Has anyone used the sauna? What were you thoughts? Does it have a cold plunge?

  2. How was the breakfast?

  3. Were there vegetarian options for meals throughout the day?

  4. If you did the twin beds, what did you think? Could two children (ages 9&5 share a twin bed). We have three kids so thinking they may be able to share the room.

  5. What did you think of the club lounge?

  6. Did you get upgraded and was it busy when you stayed?

  7. Did they have some English speakers at the hotel?

Main Basic Award Tickets - Do Cancellations Still Process without Fees/Pt Charges?

For both Domestic and International Main Basic Tickets, they used to be able to be cancelled without fees or charges. Is that still the case? This was something Delta always said they would do but never did it, and was unsure if they tightened the rules on this. Thank you in Advance!!
