Crippled Game
My empire is constantly going nearly bankrupt and running low on income due to goods piling up and area effects stopping.
I set the game setup options to the most generous settings for passive trading, and even then it seems like almost no trades are done, or they’re exceptionally small. Is this a bug? What’s going on? I even set all of my islands to sell everything over 200 tons.
Furthermore, the amount of texting popping, missing textures, and strange graphics have been multiplying once I crossed over 40k people and settled Cinis.

So it’s definitely cool.
It adds a really interesting and well-built gameplay mechanic that spices up things.
The downside is that it is heavily impactful and unless you have fire watches literally everywhere, stuff will burn down. That is a little too impactful. I might prefer if it only rained on islands in the closest third of the map to the volcano. That way my metropolises on the other side weren’t getting roasted alive.
It reminds me of the old disasters from 2070 and 1404 that were stunning and destructive all at once. I fondly (maybe not fondly) remember the tsunami in 2070 which was beautiful and would without mercy wipe out multiple islands in their entirety. Such that it wasn’t even wise to build near one. I wouldn’t mind disasters like that here so long as the stuff auto rebuilds and remembers what was there like it does in 117. 1800 was always missing that life to it.
Also, the volcano is a HUGE hit to performance.
I’m running an I7-14700k, an RTX 4070, 64GB of ram, and I can’t handle the volcano that well. Which part needs upgrading here? It’s gotta be the video card I’d imagine. I could buy another I guess. I just hate that it’s basically a $900 upgrade to go from 4070 to 4080 or 4070ti.
The island is unfortunately quite small. I was dedicated not to really import much due to a scarcity of fertilities, the cost of settling new islands, and competitor AIs that have taken literally everything. I can’t fit that much on it. I’m currently building literally everything there. Like a new main island from scratch sort of thing. All the resources, goods, weapons, ship making supplies. I intend to rebel against the emperor and I’m going to need a much bigger navy for that. I also need to fight my rivals because they’re choking my growth in Latium and my growth in Albion is fully blocked now. I’ve been left with the ultra small islands they didn’t want and that’s resulted in archipelago chains of tiny producers feeding each other.
I had to engage in a limited war and cook all my rep with the emperor just to get the only island that had sturgeons. And I nearly lost the war since after I took the island I wanted and began suing for peace, I saw 40 ships cresting the horizon toward my capital. I don’t have enough manpower and income to afford a fleet bigger than 15 Quinquiremes after all the merchant ships. After this most recent patch my income has shit the bed across the board. So it’s been a struggle messing with area effects to get my islands back to profitability. And even then the capital is generally at a giant loss for some reason. I think it’s attributing it to military. And since I can’t make enough ships to fight off my biggest rival in Latium, I can’t keep a fleet big enough in Albion to do the same. This limits my war ability since a victory in Latium will mean a loss in Albion. But every island is now a fortress.
Cool DLC. The game needed this. 1800 could have done with flavor on this level. 117 has everything it needs to become the best Anno game and the perfect Anno. The setting is only limiting it a little compared to what 1800 spoiled us with. But increasing the scope further and further will do it good. I would personally like if they toyed around with some more fantastical and a-historical elements in future DLC. It’s not perfect yet. But the DLC will get it there. And some quality of life patches such as the ability to mass encamp troops would be greatly appreciated.
