EV charging claiming through Novated Lease

Has anyone managed to claim EV charging under a mixed setup for tax or novated lease purposes using both home charging and public charging like Chargefox/Tesla?

I am currently using a trickle charger at home, but I may upgrade to a proper fast EV charger later. If you are claiming actual costs, is there a practical way to track or see how much home charging electricity I have used with a trickle charger?

And if you have had a home EV charger installed, does the charger app give a clear breakdown of charging usage or costs that is good enough for tax records?

Would be great to hear what records, apps, or documents people are using, and whether their accountant or lease provider accepted it.

Melbourne to Sydney - First Road Trip in EV

Hi everyone,

We received our Zeekr 7X LR last week and are potentially planning our first EV road trip from Melbourne to Sydney and back. Am hoping to get some real-world advice from people who have done this route before.

Our usual petrol/pit stops are Glenrowan, the Dog on the Tuckerbox at Gundagai, and Goulburn, so I’m trying to work out the best places to charge along the way instead. If anyone knows whether there are good EV chargers at or near those stops, or which nearby chargers are easiest to use, I would really appreciate your tips.

I am also keen to hear what apps people recommend for planning the trip, checking charger availability, and avoiding range anxiety. At the moment I’m thinking ABRP and PlugShare, but I would love to know what else is worth having downloaded before we set off.

Any advice on the best charging strategy for this route would be very welcome, especially from other Zeekr owners or anyone who has done Melbourne to Sydney in an EV.

Thanks in advance.

Number Plate Swap - VICTORIA

Hi... Picking up our new car from the dealer tomorrow.

We had given them custom plates but in a haste (due to the VicRoads debacle) they have registered it with Standard plates.

Anyone know how to do a plate swap?

Can it be done over the phone?

Is there any cost involved?

No tracking on CEVA or Rover

Hi all. I am due to pick up our Zeekr at the end of the week but still no tracking on CEVA or Rover…

Have already emailed the dealership but is there a cause for concern with delivery delaying?

If anyone else is picking up from Essendon this week, please let me know if you are able to see tracking.

Zeekr 7X accessories

Has anyone here ordered accessories from AliExpress or Taobao?

I picked out the ones I wanted and when I got to checkout, it added almost $250 just for shipping. AliExpress shows a much cheaper price upfront, but once the items are in the cart the total jumps even higher.

Has anyone else run into this, or is there a way to avoid these sky‑high shipping fees?

Novated Lease Options - Zeekr 7X

I’m currently weighing up two novated lease providers and would appreciate some input.

I am likely to go with a 2-year lease. One provider is clearly cheaper overall — lower effective rate, no setup costs, and no ongoing management fees. The downside is they don’t offer any gap insurance or redundancy protection.

The other provider is more expensive (higher rate plus fees), but they do include gap cover and redundancy protection.

My main concern is what happens if the car is written off early in the lease. If the insurer doesn’t replace the vehicle like-for-like, I am worried about being left with a shortfall between the payout and what’s still owed on the lease.

From what I can tell, only a few insurers (AAMI, GIO, Suncorp, Shannons) offer replacement with a similar vehicle, but their premiums are quite a bit higher — around $3k–$3.5k annually. I could reduce that with a higher excess, but then I am exposed to bigger out-of-pocket costs for smaller claims (e.g. windscreen damage). For comparison, my current policies with Budget Direct only charge about $40 excess for glass claims.

So I am trying to decide:

  • Is it safer to go with the more expensive lease that includes gap/redundancy cover and pair it with a cheaper insurer?
  • Or skip the gap cover and instead pay more for a higher-end insurance policy that offers better replacement terms?

Interested to hear how others have approached this.

ETA:

I am still waiting on the quotes for the 2 year option from NLA..

But for a 5 year lease:
The difference in take home pay yearly is around $1590
Difference in lease payments yearly is $2321

Gap cover through insurance

I am looking to do a novated lease on the Zeekr 7X Long Range with Novated Lease Australia.

However, they do not provide Gap Cover or redundancy cover. Speaking with them, they said if I wanted this, then I would need to source it myself.

However, I have done various google searches and also checked with various AI tools and it seems I can’t get this as an individual with any insurer. It seems that generally this sort of cover is built into the insurance provided by the novated leasing company.

So what do I do? Anyone have any experience with this?

I am based in Melbourne.

Thank you.

For those taking Novated Leases, what is the effective interest rate you are getting from your leasing companies?

Not sure if it depends on the cost of the car?
We are getting the Zeekr 7X LR...

Not sure if it makes a difference based on the car you are getting and its cost..?

Question for those people who are tracking Zeekr Shipments and delivery..

How do you know which ships carry the Zeekrs?
I have followed various forums (Facebook/Whirlpool/Reddit) and somehow people know the ship names that are carrying the Zeekrs?

How?

I have been reading conflicting posts regarding whether there is tinting on the rear windows of the 7X and if it provides UV protection.

Is there anyone that can point me to official information regarding this?
We are planning to get the windows at the back tinted (legal standards) as from what I have been told, it doesn't provide UV protection.

However, some people of the Whirlpool forums insist they do...

Would be grateful for some accurate info one way or another? Has Zeekr released any official info regarding this?

Anyone have any idea how many 7X are allocated to each dealership every month?

Does everyone get the same amount?

Not sure if anyone would have any inside information on things like this…
