Drop shotting - Not as good as I remember?

I remember always dropshotting on this game back in 2011 and it being OP. Now I find I die or get the kill before I even drop to prone,

Is it just not as good on the port or what? Maybe Im just slower to drop shot as the newer games made it not viable I dont have the reflex anymore

Recommend Flint or Slate router. Needed as a secondary router for hosting Proton VPN

My use case is plugging in either router into my current router, and using it just to host ProtonVPN which routes to my PS5.

What are the pros and cons for either for this use case?

How to fix Strict NAT type when Port Forwarding or DMZ does not work (CGNAT)

If you are stuck on a Strict NAT type, matchmaking is miserable, it takes 5 minutes to find a game and when you do, the connection is terrible because you are so limited to the number of lobbies you can connect to, so when you finally find one, its not an ideal connection.

You will find many posts and videos on how to change your NAT type via port forwarding, DMZ, Upnp, etc.

HOWEVER

Some ISPS use something called CGNAT - Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT) a method used by some ISPs to share a single public IPv4 address among multiple households. Because you do not have your OWN IPv4 address, no amount port forwarding or DMZ setting changes will help

If you have an ISP that uses CGNAT, like myself, Moderate or OPEN NAT types are impossible to achieve (From my experience and extensive research).

There is also something called Double NAT, which is similar to CGNAT, but Double NAT allows you to achieve a moderate NAT with setting changes, unlike CGNAT.

Many ISPs are moving towards CGNAT (and all cellular networks and satellite internet such as STARLINK) because it is cheaper and IPv4 addresses are running low, and CGNAT circumvents this. It works for 95% of internet traffic which is IPv6, and most newer games use dedicated servers. The downside is that for older P2P games that use IPv4 p2p connections like older COD games, you are stuck on a strict NAT type.

The only solution is

  1. Ask your ISP to change from CGNAT to a dedicated static IPv4 NAT type.
Some ISPs, like mine, do not offer this as an option or only do on a business internet line, which may not be available where you live geographically or if you are in a condo/apartment.

  2. Change ISPs. Again this may not be an option, some buildings or areas are only serviced by one ISP.

  3. VPN. Specifically a VPN that can reroute your traffic through a dedicated static IP address. The best method is buying a router that can host the VPN and route the VPN to specific devices such as your PS4/5

I initially tried NordVPN however this did not work and you cannot achieve a Moderate or OPEN NAT type with Nord. The best option I found was Proton VPN which has a toggle NAT type setting allowing you to achieve a Moderate NAT type.

Unfortunately an OPEN NAT type seems unobtainable on a VPN but Moderate is still enough for getting a good lobby.

And yes, a VPN will add a delay. For me it wasn't significant, but being on a Moderate NAT allows me to connect to much better lobbies and the result is a much faster connection than playing on a Strict NAT type. The game is enjoyable to play once again. I also find lobbies relatively quickly

I hope this helps. I have done a lot of research on the topic and wanted to share.

If anyone knows how to get an OPEN NAT type on a CGNAT connection share your findings.

Black Ops 2 for PS5 is stuck as Strict NAT type, ISP uses CGNAT and doesnt offer static IP. What do I do?

At a loss here, the network connection is terrible on strict NAT type and I cannot change it to moderate or Open because the ISP uses CGNAT, only solution to to get a business line which is absurdly expensive.

Are there any solutions? Do any gaming routers fix this via a vpn?
