Dragons in my world

A generalized description of the non-Elemental dragons in my setting, World of Dragons. As with all generalizations, these rules can be bent to fit a specific dragon's niche, such as with the Antarctic Angel, a dragon that has a far less prominent dewlap due to living in such a cold environment as Antarctica. Most other traits shared between dragon species are adhered to in some shape or form.

Other features include:

A limited amount of magic that allows larger dragons to fly and to some degree disregard the square-cube law, a leftover from their guided evolution from their dinosaur ancestors.

○ Some dragons have magical abilities besides, such as Esther's Ghost (can teleport short distances), and the now extinct Gigacore (fed on magic because they were too big to eat anything else) but most are almost wholly mundane in their abilities.

Organ in the back of the throat that produces a liquid that ignites in contact with oxygen. They produce their flames by expelling this liquid and using their powerful lungs to essentially push the flames outwards. The exact composition of these fluids varies from dragon to dragon.

○ Some dragons such as the Antarctic Angel and Phantas can also expel other things, but retain their ability to breathe fire.

Generally considered to be fairly intelligent, but are by no means sapient.

Wanderer Program logo thingy

Pictured is a Void Whale, a whale like creature that is capable of living in space. Utilizing an organ in their brain known as the Causality Engine, they can go faster than light. Humans attach spaceship parts to their bodies and operate them as living spaceships, known as the Wanderer-class.

The Wanderer Program is a breeding program for Void Whales, hence why there are no spaceship bits in the picture.

Void Whale

Discovered near the end of World War II, Void Whales were the first sign that humanity isn't alone. Mistaken for merely being a funny looking whale for decades, Void Whales saved the Apollo 11 mission from what could have been a disastrous failure in 1969, allowing humanity to take their first steps on the Moon. It was eventually discovered that these whales were indeed capable of living in space nigh indefinitely, primarily feeding on the gases that make up gas giants. It was around that time when humanity has determined that they were indeed not from Earth. An organ in their brain, commonly known as the Causality Engine, allows them to travel faster than light.

An OC I made for a fanfic

In his former home, he and many other suitors did battle to gain the right to mate with the Queen. He lost, suffering from a missing arm and a cracked mask, but in blind rage from his loss he killed the victor, a grave sin in the eyes of his people, and so he was cast out from his kingdom, where he now lives to regret what he has done.

He currently spends his days wandering the surface as a hermit.

Design based on the Carpenter Ant, genus Camponotus.
