Audiophile by choice. Cat bed by accident.

Spent years putting this system together.

The cat’s favorite upgrade turned out to be the dust cover.

Final Status

Finally got around to reorganizing part of my jazz shelf.
It’s nowhere near the biggest collection on here, but it’s slowly becoming one that feels very “me.”
Lots of Blue Note, Riverside, Prestige, ECM and a few Turkish jazz records mixed in. Lately I’ve been reaching for Keith Jarrett, Dexter Gordon, Coltrane, Miles, Dave Brubeck and Anouar Brahem more than anything else.
I still buy records because I enjoy the ritual as much as the music. Streaming is great for discovery, but nothing beats pulling an album off the shelf, dropping the needle and listening all the way through.
Curious what album you’d grab first from this rack.

My Vinyl Setup

Finally reached a setup that I’m genuinely happy with after years of swapping gear around.
Current system:
Falcon Acoustics LS3/5a Gold Badge
Naim NAC 202 + HiCap DR + NAP 200
Chord Qutest
Lumin U2 Mini
Garrard 401 / SME M2-9 / Nagaoka MP-500
Rega Aria Mk1
Naim CD5si
Puritan PSM156 for power conditioning
I mainly listen to jazz (Bill Evans, Mingus, Oscar Peterson, Art Blakey, etc.), acoustic recordings and well-recorded classical. I’m much more interested in natural timbre, imaging and musical flow than ultimate detail or huge bass.
The Falcons are really the heart of the system. They disappear completely in the room and have that uncanny midrange that keeps me listening for hours without fatigue. The Naim electronics add just enough pace and drive without taking away the LS3/5a magic, while the Qutest brings a nice level of transparency without sounding analytical.
Vinyl still gets most of my attention, but the Lumin/Qobuz combination has become so good that I find myself streaming a lot more than I expected.
I’m not chasing “more hi-fi” anymore—just trying to enjoy the music. That said, I’m always curious what people would upgrade next, if anything. Speakers are the one area I’m constantly thinking about, but every time I sit down and listen, I remember why these Falcons have stayed.

Finally finished organizing the XRCD/XRCD24 section — the TBM shelf is starting to look serious

Been slowly building this over the past couple of years. The top shelf is almost entirely XRCD24 — you can see the Three Blind Mice titles lined up (Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, Isao Suzuki, Fumio Karashima, etc.), JVC XRCDs above them, and the classic Pablo/Verve stuff filling in the gaps.

The lower shelves are standard jewel case CDs — mix of jazz, some classical, a few odds and ends I haven’t sorted yet.

What I’ve noticed with the TBM XRCD24s specifically: the pressings are remarkably consistent. Dead quiet, imaging is precise, dynamics feel uncompressed compared to the standard Japanese pressings of the same material. Whether that’s purely the mastering or some placebo from the packaging, I genuinely can’t tell anymore — but I keep buying them either way.

Anyone else gone deep into the TBM catalog? Curious where people draw the line between “essential” and “completionist trap.”

XRCD or SACD

Part of my collection. I really love mastering quality behind xrcd production. However they are significantly expensive compared to others. On the other hand a good sacd player is not cheap as well.

What are your thoughts?
