Thank you guys for being so cool

I had a question and I keep getting answers to really niche things I didn't know about my 1st gen!

Toyota owners are usually pretty great though (:

First Time Owner of 1st Gen Sequoia, any words of wisdom?

Hello! I am very happy to have joined the community through the join button, and my purchase earlier today.

I have purchased a 2002 4x4 model with 218k miles on it. A shop near me occasionally sells vehicles apparently. It was sold to me as is with the understanding that it does have a little bit of noise coming from the front passenger wheel bearing. Albeit, without any play in the wheel currently.

It steers great. It brakes well. It has a slightly less punchy brake than I’ve experienced in an equivalent Yukon. The brakes are strong, but my parking brake is not enough to hold the vehicle the whole way on a steep incline without shifting into park. It barely rolls back, but leads me to believe the rear drum brakes are due for a tune up, or maybe the cable has stretched over the years.

There is a very, very slight ticking at different speeds, I’m certain from a small hole in the manifold after reading about it. Not super concerned about this right now honestly because $$$. I’ve grown enough oxygen through pot plants and vegetables to make up for the pollution for now lmao

I did think it was funny the interactions between the son I mostly interacted with, and the first generation Hispanic father who owned the business. Apparently he had been driving it under Independent Dealer plates for about a month before it went on the market and was genuinely sad to see it go. The 1500 mile discrepancy between the previous title after being sold to the shop leads to me believe he was driving it like 60 miles a day!

It has new ac, battery, master slave cylinders, rubber brake hoses, headlights, fresh oil change

I’ve done some research and am ready to embark on what I think I should do for maintenance right now.

I am planning on ordering

X2 Delco axle nuts

X2 Koyo OE Front wheel bearings

X2 Timken OE Inner and outer bearing seals

X2 Timken OE Bearing Retaining Rings

X2 Dorman Hubs 930417

X2 Moog Front Inner Tie Rods EV800444

X1 Moog Front right outer tie rod ES3564

X1 Moog Front Left outer tie rod ES3565

X1 Moog Front Left Lower Ball Joint K90262

X1 Moog Front Right Lower Ball Joint K90263

Aisin TKT021 Timing Belt, Tensioner, Water pump shebang kit

Do y'all think I'm missing anything? I'm just trying to make sure I'm checking all my bases to have a good experience owning my Sequoia. Am going to post pics of it tomorrow when there's better lighting. Thank you for ANY insight given. (: (She's the blue two tone btw)

How are you supposed to catch fish out here?

Been fishing for over an hour, only caught 4 inch sun fish under the dock on baby hooks

Rooster tails aren’t giving any luck, trying crank bait rn, tried worms but not really interested unless you’re a 4 inch bluegill under the dock

Wife is trying crappie magnets and rooster tails with no luck really

IN PROGRESS handle, made from flooring scrap

Planning on adding a leather wrapping to the bottom to prevent slipping

Made this because my mother decided to ruin the edge in my estwing hatchet, wanted to keep something at the cabin she can abuse and break without feeling any type of way about it

Carved exclusively with a razor knife, except for the wedge at the top, which I accomplished with a chisel.

Soaked it in oil for 2 days after shimming, then I put a metal shim in and have allowed it to continue soaking since I need to find my wire brush to clean it up before sharpening.

Any notes for my shitty axe handle? Made with oak.

How the hell would y'all veneer this? We put together every braincell we had and this is how it is setting up over the weekend

Balsa bending plywood backer plus 1/16" poplar veneer

Help with framing design?

Hello all, I'm trying to figure out what y'all think.

Free standing deck. 6/12 soil grade. We are assuming 1500psf soil is what we have.

Am using 3-ply 6x6 posts and notching in the beams

I could do a 2 beam or a 3 beam assembly. Did the math, the concrete needed is essentially the same for both options. The beams could get dropped in size from 4x12 to 4x10or 4x8 *viciously checks local ordinances

I can build either of these options within code.

Because it is on a grade, I am building to 70~psf spec local requires 50 minimum and 10 extra or something depending on the grade.

Would having more, or larger footers be better the long term? What is that show? "Everything is better in threes"?

These brushes work really well with shaving foam, worth "upgrading" to a shaving butter or soap bar type?

Card holder (wish id made it large enough for the box that holds the cards)

Did up the entire thing with daito stack and miter. Type 2 titebond. No fasteners.

Pretty pleased with myself, also, is this worth anything? I have the materials to make a lot more of them if I wanted to. I might make more to practice making small boxes like this. The problem, I don't have room for all the boxes if I make a bunch.

What would even be a rough ballpart for selling these? If I made 5 more I could send them to my mother in law to sell at her farmers market would be super convenient and nice but I still have no idea what this would even go for.

Also, any advice on the design? Am using soap as lube for the sliding top

Definitely going to be more careful next time SOMEHOW I missed the heavy 1/16th gap at the bottom on one side. I thought my miter was out of square. I was, not the miter lmao.

Going to be more careful sanding it too, left a few saw marks I don't like but I need to get a new orbital, handsanding with a block is WACK for most of it
