Woke up to Flynn looking completely unready for the day! For those who’re keeping up, his bald spots are back and spreading. The vet has switched his Apoquel to Zenrelia (ilunocitinib) and** **the rest of his meds remain the same.
His “big” sister has been taking it a bit easier on him lately. Maybe she’s mellowing out in her old age too? She still humps him at least twice daily… gotta keep him humble after all!
Monsoon season is underway in AZ! Unfortunately, that means a new round of fur loss, gunky eyes (especially the left one!), and ear issues. Hopefully, the steroid vacation we’re taking while Walgreens drags their heels on refilling his meds will enable it to work faster to resolve things this time around? They’ve been “working on it” for almost a week now…
I'm about to start remodeling a home with these as its cabinetry situation. They scream 80s to me and aren't in the best shape, so I'd be willing to do quite a bit with them to improve their look. Is there a way to make these look more mid-century in style without tearing them out and replacing them altogether? Any suggestions appreciated... even if it's "Toss 'em!"
This little one showed up on my property yesterday and hung out under my RV, acting very strange and disoriented. I tried to chase it off by poking at it with the PVC pipe in the pic and it just stood there, squirted it with a jet from the hose and the same thing… it just stood there, panting.
PACC was notified and said it was probably heat stroke and that it would leave once it cooled off. Woke up this morning and found it laying like this off my patio, not breathing. Again, PACC notified to come pick it up and that it was acting super weird yesterday afternoon. I hope this isn’t some weird disease spreading through the javelina!

As you can see, Flynn’s allergic reaction has settled down enough for the fur to be almost completely restored. His left eye still goops up occasionally for a day or two but we have ointment for that. His ears look good too! I believe we’re in the clear for this outbreak…
This guy’s arms should be HUGE with the amount of pushups he does on the daily when he sees me through the glass.
All those dark spots are patches of bare skin with new fur growing. This stuff used to stay mainly on his back and flanks but as he’s gotten older it’s spread and seems concentrated around his neck. His labs are all in normal range.
We have new growth in all the bald spots, which are quite extensive, but stopped spreading. His most recent vet visit went reasonably well. They took a biopsy of his skin, gave us a round of antibiotics for a “potential skin infection”, recommended some omega 3 supplementation, 3 times a week DouxoS3 seb foam application, and drew labs. The vet says he looks really good for his advanced age!
I’d forgotten how old he is and when she called him “geriatric”, I got all offended on his behalf! Then I recalled the average lifespan for the breed (7-9 years), the fact that he’s going on 11 at this point, and he doesn’t seem to be noticeably slowing down. I always forget he’s an ancient one amongst his kind!
He let us trim all his nails in one go this time around, so maybe he’s mellowing a bit in his old age? He still bolts when he sees me grab his nose balm tube because he hates having it rubbed on his nose! His eyes are completely clear and he’s actively avoiding walking into bushes on walks without having to be pulled away as he walks right into the middle of it.
