• The characters in question must have existed by January 21st, 1999, the Japanese release date of the original Super Smash Bros.

• For clone characters, they don’t have to clone the same character the character they replaced did. The Dog, for instance, did not have to the a Hat clone because he replaced Luigi and the Hat replaced Mario.

• Keep in mind the amount of characters an individual franchise is going to have when you submit it. Whoever replaces, say, Mario, is going to have to have 8 characters and counting, so make sure his equivalent is someone with a franchise with a cast big enough to have that many characters.

Blazing Saddles - While the fall of the Western genre has been blamed on many things (such as the Vietnam War shifting America away from a “Glory Days” view of its past and American Westerns getting overshadowed by the grittier Spaghetti Westerns), one prevalent theory is that Blazing Saddles spoofed them so well it decreased the genre’s momentum.

Airplane! - Ever wonder why the 1980s didn’t have any standout disaster movies? Airplane! smashed the genre into a million pieces and kept it out of the blockbuster cycle for a full decade.
