Rules

  • Submit a character to replace one of Super Smash Bros’ own. The highest upvoted will proceed onto the roster.

  • All characters submitted must either be from a tabletop game (such as Dungeons & Dragons or Warhammer 40,000) or a franchise with significant ties to tabletop gaming (such as Yu-Gi-Oh). Adaptations of tabletop games will also be permitted, though they’ll be listed as part of their franchise of origin.

  • All tabletop games are permitted, whether that be a board game, an RPG, a Wargame, or a card game.

  • The characters in question must have existed by January 21st, 1999, the Japanese release date of the original Super Smash Bros.

  • If you list things like moves, alternate colors, or other additional details, you’ll get a free upvote from me.

  • For clone characters, they don’t have to clone the same character the character they replaced did. The Dog, for instance, did not have to the a Hat clone because he replaced Luigi and the Hat replaced Mario.

Note: I will be considering Warhammer Fantasy Battle a separate series from Warhammer 40,000, feel free to submit it as a New Series if you feel like time is right.

  • Keep in mind the amount of characters an individual franchise is going to have when you submit it. Whoever replaces, say, Mario, is going to have to have 8 characters and counting, so make sure his equivalent is someone with a franchise with a cast big enough to have that many characters.

Blazing Saddles - While the fall of the Western genre has been blamed on many things (such as the Vietnam War shifting America away from a “Glory Days” view of its past and American Westerns getting overshadowed by the grittier Spaghetti Westerns), one prevalent theory is that Blazing Saddles spoofed them so well it decreased the genre’s momentum.

Airplane! - Ever wonder why the 1980s didn’t have any standout disaster movies? Airplane! smashed the genre into a million pieces and kept it out of the blockbuster cycle for a full decade.
