Holiday bag

I did pretty good today. I ended my shift a few times to see which zones were optimal, but here are my totals from 4th of July alone:

Earnings: $265.08

Hours: 10.23

I worked from roughly 4 pm to 2:15 am which puts my hourly average at about $26/hr. This is much better than normal for me 😃

This is crazy

Crazy base pay for a restaurant order. I'm guessing that the $5 tip came from my 3rd stop, which was 14 miles from the restaurant. I was pretty satisfied with the order as all 3 were ready when I got there.

I've never seen base pay this high (that's the crazy part, not the earnings amount)

Where to avoid tonight?

I should've asked this like 8 hours ago, but I'm doordashing tonight in Dublin, Powell, Westerville. Wondering where firework displays with heavy traffic will be so I know where to avoid

Thank you!!!

Why are there 3 Sheetz within 3 minutes of each other on Polaris Parkway near Polaris. They are surpassing Mattress firm levels of proximity!!!!

Closed restaurants

Can someone with a level of legal knowledge explain how it is legal for doordash to send me an offer with a guaranteed pay amount, and then when I get to the store, I don't get paid if the store is closed? For most people it's half pay. In my market, it's "proportional pay" which is $2 no matter how much the original offer amount is or how far I drove. How is that legal????

Is it in the contract I signed? Probably. But at the same time, you can't legally uphold a contract where someone agreed to work for free, that's not legal (correct me if I'm wrong).

Doordash needs to go down permanently. I hate this company more than anything I've ever hated in my entire life and I can't wait until I'm lucky enough to find another job

Tips for staying cool?

Today was the first day of the heatwave for me and the next few days are supposed to be even worse. I have to get in about 20 hours in the next 3-4 days to make some bills on time.

My car has no ac and it is HOT out. I noticed myself feeling less attentive than normal yesterday and also grumpier because of the heat.

Is there anything you guys do to keep cool while dashing without ac?

Holy low ball

$1 per delivery is straight up diabolical. It is shocking to me that it isn't $2 of base pay per delivery in the stacked orders

Ratings

I contacted support about an unrelated issue and for whatever reason the blundering agent that was "helping" me cleared 2 negative ratings and what appears to be 88 5.0 ratings. Will this affect the quality of offers that I receive?

I don't know what the cut off number is for sure but it appears to be a 10. Before it was 98.

Changing offer amounts?

I received an offer for what I thought was $14.85+ to go 8 miles. I looked at the number when I accepted and not again. Not bad, I happily accepted. I was having a slow shift and eager for the change of pace. The customer was staying in a very expensive hotel, so I figured there was a chance of $14.85 turning into $20 or $30 (given the + on the end), which has happened to me before.

I dropped off the order and it said $12.30. I was pretty disappointed. I have a photographic memory and don't tend to misremember things like that, especially in such a short span of time. Has anyone seen anything like this?

I have no proof of the original offer and I guess I could just be crazy but definitely wouldn't have any legs to stand on if I contacted support.

Like I said, I have a pretty good memory and was surprised by the final total.

Outage

Does anyone have any info on what could be causing these outages? There have been 2 major site-wide outages in the past week. I have a technology background and usually you want your architecture set up in a way that things break in pieces, not all at once. I'm starting to get pretty worried about my job security here as a dasher until I can find my next permanent role.

Insulting tip

That Cane's order was delivered to what is easily a $2m mansion. Nothing the rich love more than watching us poor folks suffer! Shout out to the Culver's customer for subsidizing our local millionaire's chicken! I honestly thought the Cane's order was the one paying for the bulk of the order...

Also I'm sure most people would agree but I'd genuinely prefer a $0 tip over a $0.01 tip. Fuck outta with that cheap shit

Holy cannoli

Late night doordashing. I stopped at a mcd where they put orders on a table through a window with no way to talk to employees. I waited 10 minutes before getting the attention of a staff member who told me the order was stolen right before I got there. So that was 20 minutes of my life wasted on $2. I was bummed because the order was $9 for 2 miles which is pretty good.

I immediately get an order for the TB across the street for $17 to go 5 miles. I happily accepted. It's a TB, past midnight, doordash order. I was expecting to wait 15 minutes, no problem, but for some reason this store was getting crushed. By the 20 minute mark I was determined that I'd hold out no matter how long it took. I figured that they closed in an hour so I wouldn't be waiting THAT long, right? By the time I got the order (45 minutes after arriving), I was pretty mad. They forgot the customers drink and ignored me when I asked for it. I kept in contact with my customers and apologized deeply for the delay. Spent an hour and 10 minutes on $17, what a waste.

BUT THEN ONE OF THE CUSTOMERS TIPPED ME $15 AND MADE IT ALL WORTH IT. It worked out to $32 to go 5 miles and take 1.1 hours. I'd take that any day, tbh. HALLELUJAH.

I had felt embarrassed telling the other dashers how long I had been waiting because we all knew that I was burning money for no reason, glad it paid off in the end 😃 longest I've ever waited at a store by far

Which tornado is featured in this song at 0:40?

It could be CGI, but I don't think it is. I looked it up and was unable to determine which tornado it is. It looked pretty violent. This video has been out for almost 20 years... Brings back memories.

18th Ave library stank

Since the summer started, some of you in the library smell SO BAD that your stink is filling an entire quarter of the floor. DISGUSTING. Do not go out in public if you can't bother to shower!!!! I've never smelled such a disgusting stench since these people started frequenting the library

Please tell me this comes with every order

As someone who is 23 years old but is mistaken as 35 years old by pretty much every new person I meet... Hoping they didn't think I was a dad

Rule of Thumb for people ordering from stores (Grocery stores, target, etc.)

Keep in mind that your Dasher is going to be doing the shopping, and half of the stores have no organization system. Some stores have item locations entered by past dashers that are completely wrong. Sometimes I get to a store and it tells me to grab an item without telling me where it is. If I search the relevant department and can't find it, I have to either track down an employee that wants nothing to do with me, sometimes wait for them to finish with other customers; or search the entire store until I find it myself. This all takes a LOT of time.

If you want to order grocery delivery and care about your dasher: $10 minimum tip. If you are ordering more than 10 items, $15 tip. If you are ordering more than 30 items, $20 tip + $1 additional for every unique item. It's not uncommon for a 100 item grocery order takes 1-1.5 hours to complete. If you are fine with being evil and broke then fine don't tip

Shout out to meijer for having the easiest inventory navigation system of any store ive been to

For my dashers out there: $10 to go 5 miles and track down 20 different items is NOT worth it and you are losing money!!!!

Insane experience

It was my day off and I wanted delivery so I ordered from Wendy's and my first order got stolen. No big deal, I got refunded and reordered it. The second time, this guy picked up my order and then started driving away. He was about 20 minutes from the location by the map which is when I started crashing out in the chat and then he said this. So I got my order canceled and refunded. I wasn't going to reorder a 3rd time but it let me order from a second location that wasn't in the middle of the hood and I got my spicy chicken sandwich hot and fresh 😋 what a hassle

EDIT: the 3 messages in the screenshot are the only messages I sent. I didn't send any messages until I was certain that he stole my order. I could tell that he stole my order based on his location (he went to the restaurant and then drove 20 minutes away from me. It wasn't a double batched order. Otherwise I would have minded my business)
