This sticker has shown up in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Portland, Oregon in the past few years. Anybody know who it is or what the origin of this sticker is? This specific pic was taken in Brooklyn on June 2024.
Via “Here’s Park Slope” on Instagram. I was no fan of the silly “Mario Core” mural that adorned the front of the place that went up a few years ago. But sad to see this place gone. It lasted longer than expected. 😔
“This is sad to see: A poster on the Park Slope Together Facebook group noticed that 5th Avenue Records @5thaverecordsnyc, which has been a neighborhood fixture between 8th and 9th Streets since 1966 and was the oldest record shop in Brooklyn, is being gutted. The quirky shop, which had been a labor of love for owner Ryan Romanski since he took it over several years ago, had been struggling since the pandemic due to the owner's health issues and rent increases, and while it had been closed on and off recently, it now looks like it's gone for good.”
So which way do you spell it? Hummus, hummos, hommus or houmous? Is there even a difference?!
I watched the June 30, 2026 general meeting on Zoom and was watching when Brandon West read Tim Hospodar’s statement but he seemed to rush things at the very end when Tim conceded his nomination.
Did anyone catch exactly why Tim did that? Why he concede the nomination?
Anyone know what’s up with the new/huge retail building at 505 Ovington Avenue (corner of 5th Avenue) that was built in the footprint of the old Hall of Fame Billiards location? 🤔
Seems like a big white elephant nowadays. Wasn’t it supposed to be a supermarket or something? 🛒
Okay, this is a list of items that the Park Slope Food Co-op used to carry, but for various reasons no longer carry. Anyone have anything they miss? Feel free to reply.
🍫 Sunspire Coconut Bars (Dark Chocolate): Nuff said.
🍫 Tumbador/Brooklyn Born Chocolate: Carmel pecan squares, Key lime pie squares and tons of other stuff.
🥤 Blue Sky Cola: By no means a “healthy” soda, but it was great.
🍋 Santa Cruz Lemon Soda: See above; not healthy but really tasty.
🍪 Margaret Palca Baked Goods: R.I.P. Margaret Palca. I truly miss your White Chocolate Chip brownies and big Chocolate Chip cookies.
🍞 Vermont Bread Company Bread: Sorry they went out of business. Basic bread. But really good for what it was. No disrespect to Dave’s Killer Bread which just is okay, but not the same quality as Vermont Bread Company bread.
“Two women were found stabbed to death in Park Slope on Saturday night at the same location where a murder-suicide occurred two years ago, according to police.
NYPD officers responded to a call of an unresponsive woman at 386 2nd Street around 8 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the 59-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds throughout her body.
A further search of the same location revealed a second victim, a 23-year-old woman, who had also been stabbed to death.”

Back in the pre-COVID days, and starting in 2008, the co-op had a bike valet setup right near the bike racks higher up on Union Street. A good profile of the initial setup can be found in the November 20, 2008 issue of the “Linewaiter’s Gazette.”
Now it is gone. Has anyone proposed its return? How did that go if it was mentioned previously?
And outside of that, what does everyone feel about the bike racks themselves? The racks closer to the street seem to be official NYC CityRacks but the ones closer to the schoolyard seem to be customs installed racks.
Anyone have any thoughts on the racks? Can they be improved, removed or replaced?
I personally think the racks near the schoolyard can be upgraded to something that makes better use of the space so more bikes can be safely locked up. But what do others think?
