Made elderberry syrup for the first time and it STINKS

I got two elderberry bushes from Costco this spring and I just harvested my first batch to make syrup. Why does nobody want you how much this stuff stinks? Is this normal?
I can’t quite describe what the smell is.

Who actually likes their printer, and what is it?

Not really a sewing question, but it's still sewing equipment.

I mainly use my printer to print sewing patterns, as well as other minor non-sewing life needs. My current printer is so old- it was working fine but all of a sudden it won't print black ink, no matter what I've tried.... I'm ready to give up and buy a new one, but I don't even know what to get.

Does anyone have a printer that they at least mildly like? What is it? I'm willing to spend a few hundred dollars- I don't want the cheapest one I can find. I want one that won't make me pull my hair out when I try to use it.

I know I should look into a projector, but since a printer is multi-purpose for other areas of my life as well, this is more of a priority than a projector.

Edit: I just ordered a brother, monochrome laser printer. Thanks everyone!!!

Any idea what lip product was used in Bon Appetit, Your Majesty?

This berry lip stain worn by fourth consort Kang Mok-ju in S1: E5 of Bon Appetit, Your Majesty is GORGEOUS. it’s the most perfect berry shade. Any idea what she’s wearing and/or something that gives a similar result?

This photo isn’t great to demonstrate the actual color but hopefully someone’s seen the show.

Any replacement for the Federal Ballpark Estimator retirement calculator?

I just ran my numbers through the estimator, and the results have a bunch of null fields, even though I did fill them out. I remember this link not working last year, so I assume it’s still broken.
Is there any online replacement for this tool?

Asian clothing designers with Chinese (or any Asian) motifs?

Are there any mid-range Asian designers that are doing clothes with Asian motifs? I want beautiful koi fish, cranes and herons, dragons. I also would love silk or natural fibers.

I don’t want a kimono. I want a beautiful silk camisole with koi fish swimming along. Or a silk jacket with herons on the sleeves or something like that.

OR even just who is your favorite Asian clothing or jewelry designers?

Two thrift stores and one consignment shop

I had a greatttttt shopping day. A planter, glazed bowl, speckled bowl, a huge keffiyeh (free Palestine), Le Creuset jug, three things of bias tape, a metal business card holder, a ceramic little trinket dish, a little wooden model ship, wooden people toys, stickers, two coloring books, a few yards of cotton poplin, and a huge blanket. Everything was between $0.99 and $5. Then at the consignment shop I got a NWT linen Boden dress ($38) and a linen J Crew tank ($17). I’m so pumped. Also featuring my thrifted (rescue) dog.

Baby birds hatched two days ago, and are now missing

This nest of babies has been on my front door wreath, and they hatched two days ago. Now…. The nest is empty. What could have happened? It’s too high for a snake, and I feel like a hawk wouldn’t come this close to the house.

Trying to recreate these straps- suggestions for the flowers?

I’m trying to recreate these straps on a dress I already own- any suggestions for how to make the flowers that I can thread onto string, along with beads? I’m picturing cutting flowers from silk organza??? Mesh??? But I feel like the hole will be too big and it won’t stay put where I thread it onto the string.

Also…. Is this ugly?
I have a black dress I want to wear to a garden formal wedding so I want to add some sort of floral element to it, without permanently altering the dress

Just hit a quarter million

11 years in, 37 years old and currently a GS-13. Just hit a quarter million and I’m not sure of the math, but I think I’m on track for a decent retirement.

I don’t bike, but my best friend is a frequent city commuter biker. She also does fun trail rides occasionally too.

What’s a fun light or accessory I could get her for her birthday? Ideally $50 or less, but I could go slightly higher for something really cool. I don’t know anything about bike culture.

If it matters, the things I know about her bike accessories are that she has a saddle bag, and the last time I saw her bike a few months ago she had lights on her back wheel that were kind of dying. She loves cats and wine. 38 years old. Also her and her partner frequently bike together, and she loves ultimate frisbee.
