I am attending a professional convention and want to contact a few people I know casually, who will be at the convention, to see if they want to meet me there just to chat or have coffee or something. I do not want them to feel obligated or feel like I will hog their time so I want to know how to word my message asking them to meet up.
When sending a text message or email to someone, because you would like to meet up with them at a professional convention, what is the best way to word things so they won't feel pressured to meet you or feel like you want too much of their time? I'd like to just meet up with this person I know casually and see if she wants to chat for a while at the convention. Sorry if this is not descriptive enough.
I went to a Christian college and a man I knew from college went on to become a well known and successful person (I am going to be intentionally vague), and I had fond memories of him and always wondered what happened to him. This morning I googled his name to see where he was living now because I think he moved to my city. I found out some things I did not want to know and now I am sad. I get that nobody is perfect but he has done some crimes repeatedly. I have been sad about this all day.
I was friends with a woman for 20 years but it was mentally draining and she had a lot of problems. For example, After I first met her when I was in my 20s, she would call me up to ten times a day. She started stalking me when I started pulling away from her about ten years into our friendship. About 3 years ago I made the decision to unfriend her and block her on Facebook after I moved away. I wanted to get her out of my system and no longer allow her access to my life.
Last night she made an appearance in my dream. I almost wonder if she mentally did this somehow on purpose. It was so strange. She is the last person I'd want in my dreams.
I made arrangements to meet someone who does math tutoring. She said to be at her house, gave the address of her home and time to be there. I show up with my son. Ring the doorbell. She doesn't answer. Ring again. No answer. I thought I heard a voice inside and dogs barking. So I messaged her on Facebook and tried to call her. She did not pick up. Then she sent me a message through Facebook asking me to change our tutoring session to "online". I told her fine but I had already driven out there. Then she said she'd rather do it at a different location than her house. At that point I just said forget this. I had been standing on her porch too long, she wasn't coming to open the door and I felt stupid so I left. Then a few minutes later she messages me saying I should have known that the location she wanted to meet at was not her home. However, the only location and address she gave me was her home address. I literally followed the instructions she gave me. I asked how I would have known otherwise. She seemed to believe I could have just guessed or something.
I encounter this all the time. People seem to think I can guess that what they say might not be what they really mean.
If I agree to volunteer at an event, they sign me up, I get there and they say they have enough people already, to go home. Would it be okay to ask them to reimburse me for gas expenses incurred in driving there? I already cancelled other things so I could volunteer and feel let down that I get there and they say just go home.
