Summary of Key U.S. Demands in 2026 Canada U.S. Trade Negotiations (Sourced)

Canada’s account (PM Mark Carney, Aug. 22 remarks):
Carney said the U.S. introduced last minute demands to restrict Canada’s ability to sign trade deals with other countries; he called it a “power play” on sovereignty. He also said the U.S. sought changes to Canada’s protections for the French language and Quebec culture, which Ottawa rejected. On autos, he said the two sides disagreed on tariff levels, Canadian content rules, and vehicle coverage. Carney summarized the overall U.S. terms as “uneconomic, unfair,” adding “we will not give what they’ve asked.”

U.S. account (USTR Jamieson Greer, Aug. 22):
Greer said the U.S. offered Canada “the best treatment of any major exporter” to the U.S. market, but said new demands and walk backs of prior commitments by Canada, not the U.S., upended the deal. He did not detail specific U.S. asks in his public statement.

Result:
The U.S. proceeded with 50% tariffs on roughly $20B of Canadian goods (dairy, alcohol, cement, hockey equipment). Canada announced dollar for dollar retaliation on steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp/paper, and electronics, effective the Tuesday after Labour Day.

Listing now condemned! Gas leak, No heat, pipes sticking out of walls

Yes, you read it correctly. A dual listed property on Vrbo/Airbnb was condemned the other day.
I have family visiting for a once in a lifetime holiday in the Muskoka area of Ontario was condemned by various inspectors including building and fire.
The listing claimed to offer heating, a gas stove, potable drinking water through reverse osmosis, and a beautiful finish. Instead, my family got a cottage without heating where the temperature drops significantly at night down to 10 or 11 degrees Celsius. Okay, fine, the little kids can be bundled up. Then, the gas stove was shut off because the gas was literally coming from a set up like a bbq, so they couldn’t use it. Then they noticed the tap water was just ordinary lake water which is unsafe to drink because there are beavers on the lake (nobody wants giardia from drinking the lake water). Finally, there are wires and tubes sticking out all over the place at floor, little kid level, some of which are live wires!
Vrbo, the company with the listing my family paid for are offering just 10% off.

Sweet Bella, Aged 17

This Bella! She’s approximately 17 years old. We found her with her four kittens outside 16 years ago. She’s a lovely formally feral girl who still has a bit of wild in her.

Bella lives in our family room which she only leaves if people come to visit or she’s using the litter box. She’s screams and cries loudly several times a day. Sometimes we know it’s because she’s hungry, albeit more often than usual in the past few months.

Her bloodwork is good. No underlying health problems other than environmental allergies for which she gets a tiny piece of a vet suggested antihistamine when we are able to get close enough.

Does anyone know what would cause her to cry and scream so often? She doesn’t seem to be in pain, but there must be something we’ve missed. We want to help her, we just can’t figure out what’s wrong.

Suspected case and questions

Have just joined thinking that perhaps I had an initial flare of HS but was unaware of the condition when it happened. A few years ago I developed almost overnight these large cysts on the sides and under both breasts, although it was far worse on the right side. They were full of pus, I couldn’t pop them and the pain was intense. I eventually applied these medical Hydrocolloid bandages that are used for bedsores to pull the pus out. They lasted for a few months and they left scars. Lately I’ve noticed a few more plus a couple of reluctant to heal acne cysts that I think could be HS not acne. I was embarrassed to go to my doctor because I had already been shamed by her for having cystic acne; she implied I wasn’t washing well which isn’t true. She’s a really young doctor, and she’s not terribly empathetic.

Does it sound like HS?

Edit: I’m in Ontario Canada in an area where there aren’t enough family doctors. I cannot leave this family doctor because there simply aren’t any available. This is because our current Premier of my province is starving the single payer healthcare system so there’s not much money available for new doctors to open a practice.
