Several months ago, I submitted a post regarding the ongoing effort to start a face-to-face Lifering Secular Recovery meeting in the Gloucester/Camden County area for those seeking an alternative peer recovery support group. Many contributors to this and other sub-reddits have expressed a desire to attend a recovery meeting that embraces varying paths to recovery.

If you are attempting to achieve or maintain your sobriety and believe in an abstinence-based, secular (non-religious), self-directed path forward, then this meeting is perhaps what you have been searching for.

Beginning Saturday, October 10th 2026 at 10:30 am, in association with the Living Proof Recovery Center of Gloucester County at Rowan College of South Jersey, there will be a 90 minute recovery "conversation" between peers on the path to recovery until Noon each Saturday.

This gathering will be topic-centered, with attendees encouraged to submit meeting topics, participate in the cross-talk which is an essential element of Lifering dialogue, encourage and assist each other to develop a unique Personal Recovery Plan, and to experience positive reinforcement as they achieve successes in their personal journeys.

Time: Saturday, October 10th (and each Saturday thereafter) from 10:30 am until Noon.

First time poster here. I graduated from George Washington High School in 1975. In March of my senior year, a young girl I only peripherally knew from one of my classes was murdered and her body discovered at a farm in Wrightstown, Bucks County. Her name was Valerie Seibert (or Siebert - uncertain of correct spelling) and she was a year behind me.

She and I had the same typing class and we both used to ride the 84 bus to and from Washington. I knew her well enough to only say “Hi”, partially because she was gorgeous and I definitely wasn’t. She was a tall, auburn-haired, better-looking version of a teenage Barbara Streisand who always seemed to me to be either preoccupied or aloof.

Upon learning of her family life following her death, I had a much clearer understanding of my perception of her. Her mother was arrested shortly after her killing for receiving stolen property and drug charges (if memory serves) and suspicion arose that she may have either had a hand in or inadvertently caused her daughter’s death. She may have had some affiliation with the Pagans or Warlocks motorcycle gangs.

As far as I know, no one has ever been charged with her murder. She was found at that farm in Bucks County with gunshots in her arm and her side. It’s been 51 years since her killing and I’d like to know if anyone has any info or updates about the inquiry into her death.

Have you been someone who’s reached out to people you may have lost touch with, had a positive reaction when you contacted them, perhaps made arrangements to meet for coffee, drinks, or a meal, and then have them completely disappear from your radar?

Have you ever decided that the relationship you once had with a longtime friend no longer serves your needs, the interest in maintaining it has faded, or you’ve come to the realization that you didn’t have much in common to begin with and simply allowed the connection to wither and die?

The reports of “an epidemic of loneliness” appear in every medium available to us, but are we opting to jettison potential or longstanding relationships for any number of reasons, then questioning why it’s so difficult to connect with others - especially as we age? Are we self-sabotaging our own social health or is there something else at work?
