Why do people hate Mamdani?

He closed a $12B deficit in 132 days, fixed 100K+ potholes, secured millions for gig workers, fined corrupt landlords millions, raised snow workers to $30/hr, and violent crime hit historic lows…

He closed a $12 billion deficit without cutting a single city service

He is proof that politicians could get a lot of shit done if they actually cared about people

I'm responding to this article.

The FDNY is going to continue to push back on all DOT projects for safer infrastructure.  People can post how the FDNY can specifically use the super wide 10 to 12ft bike lane to respond to scenes.  They don't care. The department as an entity is still against them as a whole.

Posting from FDNYs own mission statement.

>Mission & Values

>As first responders to fires, public safety and medical emergencies, disasters and terrorist acts, FDNY protects the lives and property of New York City residents and visitors.....

>SAFETY

>We strive to keep our citizens reasonably free from danger, especially deliberate, harmful acts. With the best equipment and training, the Department can reduce the risk to the public and its members at fires, emergencies and medical incidents.

From FDNYs own mission statement, they cover public safety.  FDNY does fire inspections for the city, education for what to do in the event of a fire, and raises awareness with smoke detectors.  They do this to try to prevent fire from happening in the first place. Preventing deaths through safer infrastructure is obtainable as well. Yet FDNY attempts to block every DOT project to improve safety for pedestrians.

All while the FDNY is proud to show the response numbers going to emergencies like m pedestrians struck and rescues required for entrapment.  Yet the department takes zero responsibility for these deaths and injuries when they can be preventable.

The fire department is one of the hardest entities to take on publicly. They have public good will in their back pocket. I want the fire department to do their job.  They are good at fighting fires, however the FDNY knows that fires only make up 5% of the call volume.  Especially during years when traffic deaths outnumber fires by fatalities.

I ask again, why do fire departments feel like they have zero responsibility for street safety when they claim to be for "public safety"
