My Pitch for the Third Movie

I’ve seen a lot of great ideas and speculation for what the third movie will include, so I figured I’d share my own. Hope you enjoy!

Act I
We open in a construction zone in Brooklyn. Wario and Waluigi work for Foreman Spike, who is demanding and demeaning towards them. Wario and Waluigi are terrible workers, and they express bitter jealousy over their famous cousins, Mario and Luigi. They end up underground during a job, and come across a green warp pipe. Having heard all the stories about the Mushroom Kingdom, they enter the pipe. Wario is astounded by all the new resources and power ups in this new world, and he and Waluigi start creating weapons with them.

Meanwhile, Mario, Peach, Toad, Yoshi, and Luigi live harmoniously in the Mushroom Kingdom. Rosalina went back into space to care for her Lumas and find more of their lost siblings.

Mario and Peach have become very close and spend most of their time together. Toad’s novel (based on the events of the first two movies) becomes a bestseller, and he meets avid reader Toadette at one of his book signings.

Luigi hangs out with Yoshi and helps him gather fruit, but still feels lonely as he thinks about Mario and Toad spending most of their time their own romantic interests.

Suddenly, a Nabbit steals Yoshi’s food, so Yoshi chases after it. Luigi sprints after Yoshi, and chases them into a green pipe outside of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Meanwhile, there’s commotion at Peach’s castle. Wario and Waluigi, decked out with their weaponry, attack the castle. Mario, Peach, Toad, and Toadette fight the intruders off using their own stock of power ups. Peach asks who they were, and Mario tells her their family history. Wario and Waluigi were always family outcasts, and the Mario Bros. hadn’t heard from them in years. Mario and Peach wonder where Luigi and Yoshi are.

Meanwhile, Yoshi catches the Nabbit and Luigi follows close behind. They see weird creatures they’ve never come across before, all enemies from Super Mario Land. They are in Sarasaland. Luigi and Yoshi fight off the creatures, but there are too many of them. Suddenly, a hooded figure helps fight the rest of them off.

“Thanks, Mister!” Luigi says. “What’s your name?”
The hooded figure removes her cloak to reveal a princess. “Hi, I’m Daisy!” she says.
Luigi stares in awe and Yoshi teases him.

Act II
After their defeat at Peach’s castle, Wario and Waluigi realize they need an army to take over the Mushroom Kingdom. They pay a visit to a snowy prison. They subdue all the guards using their power ups and weapons, and they give Dry Bowser and Bowser Jr. a visit. Wario and Waluigi want to strike an alliance with them to take down Mario and Luigi. Wario explains how Mario was always the favorite in the family, and still holds resentment. Waluigi is still torn up over Destiny Delvecchio from high school, who wanted Luigi instead of him.

Dry Bowser and Jr. have been down this road of villainy, however, and don’t want to get involved. Mario saved Jr’s life in the last movie, and Bowser had already started connecting with Mario and Luigi. Wario and Waluigi are angered by this, and attack Dry Bowser and Jr, who try to fight back but are currently weak and unprepared. They have to retreat. Wario and Waluigi free all the other prisoners and begin to form their own following/army. They become determined to add to their army and overtake the Mushroom Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Mario, Peach, Toad, and Toadette try to find Luigi and Yoshi while also worrying about Wario and Waluigi. Mario says he’ll look for his brother while Peach stays to take care of her kingdom. Mario explores the outskirts of the Mushroom Kingdom until he finds the pipe leading to Sarasaland.

Meanwhile, Luigi and Daisy strike up a strong friendship with a lot of romantic tension. Yoshi is delighted to see Luigi potentially finding someone. Daisy tells him about all the aggressive creatures invading her land, sent by Tatanga the alien.

Mario catches up with them and meets Daisy. He expects a gentle, royal greeting (like what Peach would do) but Daisy nearly knocks him over with her firm handshake. He mentions Peach, and Daisy says the two of them go way back (even making a comment about them being tennis partners).

Meanwhile, Wario and Waluigi enter Sarasaland and are approached by Tatanga, who joins their alliance along with his army of loyal enemies. While Wario and Waluigi are out for revenge, Tatanga seems to seek something else.

They engage in a full-on assault on Sarasaland, leading to a big fight scene between Wario, Waluigi, and Tatanga vs. Mario, Luigi, Daisy, and Yoshi.

Meanwhile, Dry Bowser and Bowser Jr. reunite with Kamek, who turns Dry Bowser back into normal Bowser. They go to the Mushroom Kingdom to warn Peach about Wario and Waluigi. They tell her what happened at the prison, and the morbid Luma prison guard is even there to corroborate their story. Peach doesn’t trust them at first, but Bowser humbles himself by apologizing. This catches Peach off guard and makes her wonder if he’s being sincere. He starts into a song, and she’s afraid it’ll be another love song, but it’s actually a ballad of redemption. She’s surprisingly impressed by the song. Concerned about Wario, Peach decides to trust him and asks what they should do about Wario’s army. Bowser replies that he’s got an army of his own.

Act III
In Sarasaland, Wario and Waluigi have a faceoff against Mario and Luigi, and they hash out all their conflicts from their childhoods. Waluigi starts to bully Luigi as he always had as children, but Daisy quickly knocks Waluigi out.

Tatanga arrives with more forces and starts to win the fight. His motivation is revealed to be darker than Wario and Waluigi’s: he wants to steal resources and suck every world dry of crops and water. His next target: the Mushroom Kingdom.

As Tatanga bleeds Sarasaland dry, Mario and crew retreat to the Mushroom Kingdom to warn Peach. Daisy protests heavily, not wanting to leave her homeland to suffer, but there’s no other choice. The crew are surprised to find Peach allied with Bowser and his army.

Bowser starts to give the bros a genuine apology, but Daisy knocks him out too. Peach tells Daisy he’s on their side now, and Daisy greets her with the same intense handshake she gave Mario earlier. Bowser comes to, and everyone prepares for the arrival of Wario, Waluigi, Tatanga, and their army.

Meanwhile, in space, Rosalina works with Fox McCloud to find more lost Lumas, and they hear about Tatanga wanting to invade the Mushroom Kingdom. The two of them head over there to help.

The epic final battle begins in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad, Yoshi, Bowser, Bowser Jr, and their army have an Avengers: Endgame scale fight against Wario, Waluigi, Tatanga, and their army. Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Daisy all work together. Toad and Toadette protect each other. Even Bowser Jr. hitches a ride on Yoshi and the two of them team up. Rosalina and Fox come through at the last minute to help.

The battle ends with Mario and Luigi have a 2v2 fight against Wario and Waluigi outside of the castle while Peach and Daisy fight Tatanga (in a mecha suit) inside of the castle. Mario defeats Wario and Luigi, using his newfound confidence given to him by Daisy, is able to defeat his childhood tormenter Waluigi. Peach and Daisy have their hands full with Tatanga until Bowser steps in to help them, and finishes the fight against Tatanga with his fire breath.

The good guys win, and Peach and Rosalina use their joint power to rebuild Sarasaland after Tatanga had sucked it dry.

The end credits are a montage of everyone playing tennis, golf, and baseball together. Even Wario and Waluigi join in, and we get funny scenes reminiscent of what we got in the Camelot sports games from the GameCube era.

This is a New Low

I’ve never thought the front office was great, but this is a new low even for them. I feel more hopeless about this franchise right now than I did in 2022 when they lost 100 games. Because at least then, they made trades and had exciting prospects coming up. At least it felt like they were trying.

But now? Last place, one of the lowest rated farm systems in baseball, and a front office that did next to nothing when they had a chance to trade away seven expiring contracts. SEVEN.

I know a lot of people love TySteve, and I do too, but the fact that most of these seven guys were not traded is mismanagement and apathy of the highest degree. What should have been an opportunity to load up on prospects turned into basically nothing.

The Pirates may seem a bit delusional by being buyers this year. But you know what? AT LEAST THEY’RE DOING SOMETHING.

Dan Straily led to Luis Castillo. Alfredo Simon led to Eugenio Suarez. Tyler Naquin led to Hector Rodriguez. Would Brady Singer have brought in a future All Star? More than likely not, but at least there would have been a chance!

I have never seen this level of apathy and ineptitude in a front office before. This team is stuck in purgatory. Not good enough to advance in the playoffs, but apparently not bad enough to blow it all up. As long as the current regime is still in charge of the Reds, we’re gonna be having these same conversations 5 years from now.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that I would trust most of this subreddit as the Reds GM more than I trust Nick Krall right now.

That is all, I just needed to rant.

Worst Team in the MLB?

I’ve loved this team for over 25 years now. I was there when Bruce walked us off to win the division. I was there was Frazier won the Home Run Derby. I love this franchise and I want nothing more than to watch them win a World Series.

Obviously, the best thing for them would be for the Castellinis to sell. But outside of that, I think that ending up with the worst record and run differential in the MLB would be the best for them in the long run. The Rockies are worse right now, but at this rate, the Reds might surpass them. They need high draft picks, and they need a reason to blow it up with trades and firings.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like watching this team lose night after night. But they need an overhaul. There are no prospects to be excited about outside of Duno and maybe Rodriguez. Our only real stars are Burns and Elly (the latter of whom will almost certainly be traded or walk in free agency). Since the 100 loss season of 2022, they’ve hovered around a .500 record with moments of optimism, but no real signs of growth or hope for a pennant push.

This is such an unbelievably frustrating team to follow, because I really don’t know what other solution there could be outside of the Castellinis selling and getting a new front office.

There was so much optimism in 2023. Elly, Friedl, India, Senzel, Benson, and CES all put up promising numbers and looked like they would become an elite core for this team. Only one of them panned out. So it looks like they’ll have to start from scratch again.

Anyway, I don’t know what point I’m even trying to make anymore. I’m just pissed off and ranting.

Power Rankings

In the most recent Power Rankings on MLB.com, the Reds are ranked 18th. They placed 7 teams with inferior W-L records (Phillies, Pirates, A’s, White Sox, Blue Jays, Mariners, Nationals) ahead of them.

While I understand that W-L record isn’t the only thing that factors into these rankings (and the Reds haven’t done themselves any favors by losing to division rivals), it definitely seems like an odd decision to keep them that low when they’re a winning team in baseball’s toughest division.
