Help with Getting the Right Length on Men's Trousers

Can anyone advise me on getting the right length for trousers? I'm tailoring my own thrifted trousers, but I'm a bit lost as to getting the right break. I'm narrowing the opening to 8 inches and 5/8. Here are the questions that have come up:

  • Should I be standing perfectly straight to assess how it breaks?
  • Should there be any folds in my trouser above the break? (When testing a longer length, the knee area started folding, so I assumed that's too long)
  • For the hem allowance, should I snip each end of the seams? I saw some trousers do this.
  • if tapering, should the hem allowance be perfectly straight compared to the leg opening, or should I make the hem allowance wider than the leg opening? Sew Show with Shae did straight, but Aspiring Gent did wider

Open a Bank Account without Maternal Last Name?

I'm a dual citizen and tried to open a bank account with BBVA. However, they said because I didn't have a maternal last name, I'd have to buy auto insurance for a year that I don't need to open an account with them. Has anyone had success with other banks, such as Banco Azteca or BanCoppel?

How to fix these?

I bought these on eBay, but they're messed up. It looks like someone brushed a darker brown in different spots for no apparent reason.

I have Nick 4 leather conditioner and Meltonian All Purpose cleaner. Would either of these help in restoring the boot?

Delete the Apps

I recently downloaded my data from Hinge and CatholicMatch. The results: About 6 out of the 1000 total likes I've sent over the last 4 years have turned into something more than immediate ghosting or no match to begin with. There were about 50 total matches, but the majority of them resulted in ghosting. Of the 6 matches, 4 resulted in an actual first date, and only 1 of them turned into a relationship (that also ended). The other 2 were extremely long conversations which later ended in rejection/ghosting by them.

I think it's fair to say that I've spent at least 100+ hours on these apps? Maybe easily 200 hours?

Edit: I should clarify. It's not just Hinge and CatholicMatch. I was also on Chispa, Bumble, and briefly on Upward. I just got my Bumble data. I single-handedly rejected ~10,000 profiles only on Bumble, which I have very little memory of. (Sadly 1.4% incoming yes-no ratio on Bumble, but I was very sardonic so I'll accept it). I must have done twice that on Hinge then. So probably 30,000 profiles at this point.

And this is apparently the average experience for most guys. The average guy gets ~5% of matches out of all the likes he sent. Mind you, I was only liking women that were at least not explicitly against their Catholic faith (e.g. had to expressly say they were Catholic, had to say they were looking for something long-term or for a life partner, etc.).

So, unless you're the gigachad getting all the attention on these apps, I want to suggest to the Catholic men that are on these apps to get off them. I know I already have.

Instead, I want to encourage us to get out there more. Instead of logging on to Hinge or CatholicMatch in the morning, actually try to make connections with the people around you. Whether that's just on your way to work/school, when you're at the store, or (dare I say) even at church. Your odds may just improve.

Edit: editing to add -- studies suggest that some of the reasons to motivate women to get on a dating app is for an ego boost, validation, or boredom. Even more reason to stop wasting your time on the apps.

Time spent on the apps is time wasted. Instead, we should spend our time answering the question, "How can I learn to offer something to someone else that will make me eminently desirable?" (as Jordan Peterson posed).

Edit2: at some point dating apps become intentional self-abuse.

Advice on Shortening Knit Sweater Sleeves?

I have a lot of wool sweaters with long sleeves that I'd like to shorten. Most have ribbed ends. I've tried finding advice on this online, and aside from hand sewing/knitting guides, I haven't seen much with regard to sewing or serger videos. I did find this one reddit thread though, that said they'd turn the hem into a cuff.

Could someone explain that for me? I have a serger, and had been anticipating a blind seam stitch, but can't comprehend how that'd work. What would this cuff method look like with the ribbed ends? Because the advice given also looks to be for a knit sweater without a ribbed end.

Also appreciate any other methods. I have a sewing machine, serger, and blind hemmer. Thanks.

EDIT: adding more info. I've thrifted for the past few years, so I have about 25 sweaters I'd like to alter. A few examples below. To my untrained eyes, only the cotton/cotton-linen blend sweaters look different.

normal cotton sweater without ribbed end
Eddie Bauer cotton-linen blend
Banana Republic Italian yarn sweater
Jos A Bank wool sweater
Joseph Abboud wool sweater
JCrew wool sweater

Feedback on how I dress?

Looking for feedback to make sure that how I dress is generally welcomed in Catholic circles/by Catholic women.

During the colder months, I'd wear wool sweaters with dress shirts, ties, chinos, dress shoes, and maybe a scarf and a topcoat if the weather called for it. I've been thrifting for the last 4 years to level up my wardrobe, so I've amassed a lot of combos here. I have blazers/suits, but I've avoided wearing them too much because people sometimes think it's too pretentious.

I've spent more time dressing like that for the colder months, but I've struggled to think of how to dress up for the summer. I've settled for occasional OCBD shirts, polos, and want to upgrade with some summer-friendly blazers. I just thrifted a ton of wool trousers to be more formal that way--maybe polo/trouser/dress shoes.

While a lot of people have really liked and complimented me for my outfits, I feel like people who are working class (like my family) really don't like this kind of style. My Hispanic church also dresses super casually. Even the non-Hispanic church also rarely sees men dressing up either.

Can Catholic women provide any feedback? Any suggested changes? This is how I'd usually dress if I was going to class or to work, so of course I understand that I don't need to wear a suit to Aldi's.

I also spent a ton of time building a digital wardrobe to quickly see different combos, so here are a few examples of what I did in February. Also, despite getting compliments in person for how I dress, I get very little attention on dating apps. However, I don't include any outfits like these on there because they're all selfies. Should I add these bathroom selfies?

What can a Blind Hemmer do?

I bought a blind hemmer to be able to do all tailoring jobs myself. I thought that the blind hemmer would be used mostly for blind hemming my trousers, but are there other things I can do with the blind hemmer for men's clothing? I thought my blazer's inner lining used some sort of blind stitch (so the blind hemmer could be a part of tapering a blazer), but I can't find any video about it.
