My ‘87 Cannondale SR500

This bike was my uncle’s, hence the Steve decal I put on the top tube. I saw this bike over a decade ago hanging in his garage, loved the minimal design and have been into Cannondales ever since. He passed away a few years ago, and recently my aunt and cousins gifted me the bike (as seen in the second pic) to have and work on. I’ve been trying for the last few months to modernize and make the bike my own (tastefully I hope)
It’s still a work in progress but I’m loving how it’s come so far.

The most recent mod is the Vuelta wheelset, which I picked up off marketplace just yesterday. This also allowed me to finally switch from the freewheel on the original Wolber Alpine rims to cassette, still 7 speed though as I don’t want to take away too much of the ‘80s character. Plus I find 2x7 to be enough for the riding I do.

The only other major modification I’m currently planning is to swap the crankset with something newer. I have a pair of FSA chainrings taken off a new Cannondale SuperSix, and I’m waiting on the crank and BB to come in the mail.

Vuelta Wheel ID?

Just picked these up off marketplace for cheap, but for the life of me I cannot find what model they are. There is zero markings or text aside from the Vuelta stickers, and the vuelta logo on the hubs.

BB30 to BSA30 figment question

Can anyone advise me on if this crankset will fit on an 87’ Cannondale SR500 with a standard BSA 68mm wide BB threading? I already have a set of BSA30 bottom bracket cups but I’ve now seen that this spindle may not be long enough to fully pass through to the other side of the bb. I asked the seller and they said it’s 109mm but I’m not sure if that’s total spindle length or usable length. Any help is appreciated!

Sanding the inside of a carbon steerer tube?

Would it be a bad idea to lightly sand the inside of my carbon steerer tube to allow for the expansion plug to properly seat? It’s a 1 inch tube and I purchased a 1 inch plug but i think the thickness of the tube is maybe a bit too much, and it’s making the inner diameter just slightly too narrow to allow the expansion plug to fit.
