My first and hopefully no my last cannondale

My first and hopefully no my last cannondale

Bought the frameset off eBay and started collecting parts. I changed the seatpost to have a full zipp service course cockpit. Last thing I want to change is the wheels but so far this thing is awesome.

First Bike: Cannondale Super Six Evo 6

Brand new to cycling and seen this online and fell in love. Took it for a short test ride and felt so light and comfortable. Excited to start my journey 😍

Cannondale r500

Is this good for a first road bike? I might be interested in doing an Ironman next year. It’s on fb marketplace for only $185

What model is it exactly? Cannondale

I have been trying to find out if this is a Caad 3. I bought it for 75 bucks. I knew that even if it wasn’t it was still a great deal. I know pre 1993 they were called sr models and post 1994 to 1998 the cad 3 was the line up. Can anyone give their two cents?

Cannondale SR300

Affectionately given the nickname “Barney.” Just picked it up from marketplace. Been talking myself in and out of it for two weeks. Glad I got it. It’s a fun ride.

CAAD14 new paintjobs when?

Loving everything about the new CAAD14, except the colorways. Rode a black bike forever. Already have a red bike.

Thinking about having a frameset wrapped or powdercoated (both relatively affordable). But does anyone know when we can expect new paintjobs? Lots of controversy about CAAD13 seatstays and geo, but felt some of the paintjobs over the years were really great.

Ya'll reckon there will be new ones for next season?

NBD SuperSix EVO LAB71 BBQ — built it myself. Would not recommend having this much confidence.

Got a lucky with a massively discounted Lab 71 Evo G4 in BBQ (pretty sure it was to clear off stock for the Gen 5).

Decided I would build everything myself, transferring a few parts across my previous bike. It was a challenging experience and I don’t think I’d do it again, but I did save a few dollaridoos.

Specs:
Cannondale SuperSix EVO LAB71 Gen 4, size 44
Ultegra R8170 Di2 12-speed
Cybrei 160 mm carbon cranks
XCadey power meter
Cybrei 50/34T chainrings
Ultegra 11–34T cassette
Farsports F1S 360/90 integrated cockpit
Elitewheels ENT 55 mm
Ryet carbon saddle
Shimano ES600 SPD pedals

My ‘87 SR500

This bike was my uncle’s, hence the Steve decal I put on the top tube. I saw this bike over a decade ago hanging in his garage, loved the minimal design and have been into Cannondales ever since. He passed away a few years ago, and recently my aunt and cousins gifted me the bike (as seen in the second pic) to have and work on. I’ve been trying for the last few months to modernize and make the bike my own (tastefully I hope)
It’s still a work in progress but I’m loving how it’s come so far.

The most recent mod is the Vuelta wheelset, which I picked up off marketplace just yesterday. This also allowed me to finally switch from the freewheel on the original Wolber Alpine rims to cassette, still 7 speed though as I don’t want to take away too much of the ‘80s character. Plus I find 2x7 to be enough for the riding I do.

The only other major modification I’m currently planning is to swap the crankset with something newer. I have a pair of FSA chainrings taken off a new Cannondale SuperSix, and I’m waiting on the crank and BB to come in the mail.

Gen 4 SSE with KNOT Bar/Stem?

I was rear ended with my 2021 Supersix evo on the bike rack and cracked the frame. Cannondale doesn’t make that generation anymore so I’m getting the “new” gen 4 supersix, but would love to use my old Knot systembar and stem from my old one. Anybody know if it’s compatible? Will it look super janky with the new steerer tube and internal routing? Don’t have budget for a new bar at the moment so really hoping this works and doesn’t look stupid

SuperSix EVO Gen 5 frameset — how does the Delta steerer/stem interface work with different cockpits?

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to buy a Cannondale SuperSix EVO Gen 5 frameset, but I’m still confused about the whole Delta steerer/stem interface.
As far as I understand, the frameset comes with some of the required adapters/spacers, but I’m not sure what is actually included.
My questions are:

If I want to use a regular separate stem + handlebar, do I need to buy Cannondale’s specific aftermarket adapter kit for this?
What happens if I want to use an integrated one-piece cockpit (monocoque handlebar/stem)?

Polymer Workshop has its own adapter for the Delta steerer. Does that adapter replace the Cannondale parts, or are there still additional components needed?

If I want to use a different integrated cockpit from another manufacturer, does it need its own Delta-compatible adapter? Or is there some standard interface that allows different cockpits to be installed?

Basically, I’m trying to understand what comes with the Gen 5 frameset, what is required for a normal stem, and what is required for an aftermarket integrated cockpit.

If anyone has built a Gen 5 frameset with an aftermarket cockpit, I’d really appreciate some photos/details of how the setup works.
Thanks!

Headshok service

I bought this ‘05 with a dead Headshok. Is there anyone in the S. Jersey/Phila area who works on these? Or should I send it to Mendon? TIA

CAAD is love, CAAD is life

Love this bike. It's a build on a budget but man do I like it. Arguably, it's a size too big for me. Size 54 and I'm 175 tall with an 81cm inseam, but it works okay with an 80mm stem. Handles fine.

Cannondale Recalls and Failures.

https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-gear/gear-news/cannondale-recalls-over-11000-cyclocross-bikes/?utm\_source=google&utm\_medium=organic&scope=anon

The article reports on a voluntary safety recall issued by Cannondale in July 2019 covering over 11,000 of its CAADX cyclocross bicycles (model years 2013 through 2016).

Key Details of the Article:
The Issue: The recall was triggered by reports of the front fork fracturing/snapping suddenly during use, posing a severe crash hazard.
Incidents & Injuries: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) noted 11 reported instances of fork failure. Seven resulted in serious injuries (including concussions and spinal injuries), and one incident tragically resulted in a rider fatality.
Cannondale's Response: Internal and third-party lab testing did not reveal a specific manufacturing defect, but Cannondale initiated the voluntary CPSC recall out of an abundance of caution. They provided a free upgraded replacement fork tested by an independent laboratory.
Affected Models: CAADX bicycles from model years 2013 through 2016 equipped with disc brakes, an ULTRAX marking printed on the inside of the fork leg, and external black plastic brake cabling along the front fork blade.

The exact root failure mechanism was never formally specified as a single manufacturing flaw by Cannondale, but the underlying structural factors behind the failures stem from the design and materials used in those specific forks.

  1. Construction & Material Transition Points
The recalled CAADX UltraX forks used a bonded construction—a carbon composite fork leg paired with a steerer tube/crown assembly.
Stress Concentrations: In disc-brake cyclocross applications, braking forces create tremendous leverage concentrated right at the fork crown and lower steerer tube junction.
Bonding & Material Interfaces: Multi-material interfaces (where carbon meets metal inserts or where distinct carbon layups join at the crown) are inherently susceptible to fatigue under repeated off-road chatter and hard front-disc braking loads.
  2. Cyclocross Riding Demands & Cumulative Fatigue
Unlike smooth road riding, cyclocross involves repetitive high-impact terrain (roots, ruts, barriers) combined with frequent, aggressive disc braking.
Fatigue Progression: Micro-fissures in carbon or bond degradation at stress points often do not show immediate obvious exterior damage. Over time, repeated cyclic loading causes these micro-cracks to propagate until a sudden, complete fracture occurs under normal riding stress.
  3. Cannondale's Official Stance
In their official statements and CPSC filings, Cannondale noted that both in-house and third-party laboratory fatigue testing on the affected forks met or exceeded industry safety standards, meaning they could not isolate a single batch defect.
However, due to the cluster of 11 severe real-world failures (including seven major injuries and one fatality), Cannondale voluntarily issued the recall to swap out the stock UltraX forks for a newly designed, upgraded full-carbon replacement fork across all affected 2013–2016 disc models.

The official Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada reports confirm that at least one rider suffered a spinal injury as a result of the fork failure, alongside other riders who sustained concussions, fracture-related trauma, and one rider who suffered fatal injuries.
While the agency notices and safety filings explicitly document spinal cord injuries, they do not detail the individual medical prognosis of that specific rider—so it is not publicly specified whether that spinal injury resulted in permanent paralysis. However, severe spinal trauma resulting from a catastrophic front-fork collapse at speed carries a very high risk of permanent impairment.

Cannondale Synapse 5 vs Trek Domane SL5 Gen 5 vs Specialized Roubaix SL8 Sport

I am trying to figure out which bike to buy. One of the most important factors is the fork / steerer design and safety.

Is the SL8 sport with the future shock design more safer and more structurally sound than the traditional fork / steerer which uses carbon steerer?

The SL8 sport does not have integrated hoses and cables, which I like.

If I go with the Domane, is it easy to drop the fork to inspect it completely visually without having to disconnect the brake hoses cables?

The Synapse 5 has a delta fork. Does this design make it more structurally strong? Is it easy to maintain and inspect?

Which of the 3 brands use the best carbon layups and molds? Which is historically the best in terms of safety and structural strength of the carbon. Thanks.

NBD CAAD 14

I’ve had a caad 5, 7, and 9, went to carbon now back on aluminum. It’s good. Really good. Pant color matches the Honda paint spot on.
