Why this matters: Having National Guard troops on the ground over a fake crime emergency is front loading a fake emergency for November’s election. DC residents get involved and don’t accept this occupation as a norm. It isn’t.
The projectionists succeeded in sneaking into the Kennedy Arts Center complex in plain view. They drove right up to the front and acted boldly. They know they’re taking a calculated risk. Its not doing any harm to or damaging any part of District architecture or memorials. It didn’t cost taxpayers anything. They beamed a light show in a prominent place and got away with it. They’re doing something a ballooning authoritarian does not want them to do but hasn’t been able to stop them.
While much went wrong that day, it mobilized the nation in ways that were never seen before. This is a look at that weekend and some of the unexpected changes in its aftermath.
