I logged into a Smart TV at an AirBnB and that compromised a few accounts including; Disney+, Steam, EA, Nintendo, Ubisoft, and a couple others.

Day 1:
The accounts were breached and the actor replaces my email with theirs and resets the password. I wake up to email notifications of these account changes and I spring into action and go reset all of my passwords. For the couple accounts I’m kicked out of, I’m at the mercy of each company’s support (results vary).

Day 2: I start getting mass email bot spam. signing me up for email subscriptions across the globe and random account creations. I presume this is to mask the actual malicious actions. This seems to prove to be true.

There is a single ticketing app named AXS (like a stubhub) that was breached. 6 tickets were ordered for a concert event in July. The tickets were purchased by an unknown person’s credit card and then the tickets were transferred to another person (with my name as the account holder). Based on that, I submitted a case to the FBI and local police department to cover my ass.

Day 3 and beyond: it seems like everything stopped after that. No more email spam. I rotated all my passwords in a vault and stopped reusing any password whatsoever. Also started moving over to a new email account (but that’s probably just overkill on my part). I also ran credit report checks and froze my credit.

It was a stressful 3 days, but I learned my lesson I hope…

Last weekend I had a couple accounts logged into on a smart TV at an air BnB. The accounts were taken over and I’ve recovered most of them. I noticed it when I woke up to emails the next couple of days from these accounts changing account email and password(s). I reset passwords and enabled MFA on everything else I have that previously wasn’t turned on (which is a just a few accounts).

Today, around 2PM I got hit with 100+ spam like emails signing up for random subscription type emails and other junk. So far, nothing alarming or legitimate but now I’m hyper monitoring all accounts.

Does it eventually end as time goes on?

I had a night time delivery to an address that looked completely abandoned. There were no lights on and I couldn’t see a thing from the driveway to the front door. It was a manufactured home with some boarded up windows.

I never got out of my car and I got the hell out of there. It was one of those, “oh to hell with that” moments.
