My favorite thing in the world.

Pushing my kids cardio to the max. Taking them to that line in the sand that is their breaking point, but never crossing it.

In a match, seeing them physically and mentally breaking a stronger/better wrestler down round after round. And in the 3rd period driving out of bounds and RACING back to the center and waiting for them. Their opponent walks back defended. They know the end is coming.

That’s why I push my kids hard. So they know through hard word, a strong mindset and perseverance comes success!

Edit: Saw some comments. Just going to leave this here. I’m not a college coach, just HS. No I never wrestled D1. My goal is to get him to a level, as high as I can possibly take him, and then gladly hand him off to a far better coach than I can ever be.

With that said, if we are up 3 points in the 3rd, I’ll take a “stalling” warning to continue to break my opponent down. Makes him less dangerous.

I am not downplaying your input. It’s just I have very little video of what is the perfect representation of what I want. The kid in the video was a 1st year senior wrestler, who gave me everything I asked for and more (he was a tough as* kid). I was working with what I had with limited time on the clock.

TLDR: Please don’t be mean to the kid. If you want to be mean, point your energy in at my coaching.

This is very specific but in my 22 years of wrestling, these are some pointers.

I have been wrestling for 22 years. In those 22 years I have gone from 92 pounds to 215 pounds and can wrestle like a little guy shooting from the outside or from a tie up. I have trained my body to fight in every position. As as coach it difficult to coach unathletic people.

This advice will mostly fall on deaf ears but becoming athletic and having body coordination is half the battle. If you have the ability to do gymnastics, 100% take advantage of it. At the very minimum jump robe. Having foot speed and coordination is needed.

We need to do something besides from wrestling. Lifting, explosive calisthenics, gymnastics, judo etc. smaller guys MOSTLY should focus on strength. Bigger guys should MOSTLY focus on fast twitch, and foot speed. (Yes as a hw you should still be shooting, don’t let anyone tell you different) Eat clean, get your sleep.

I’m 41 as of today, and unfortunately my body is starting to fail me. I can’t keep up like I use to. I’m having to change my coaching style from hands on to mentally coaching and on the sidelines. It sucks but it’s just a new chapter in my wrestling journey.

Just got my 1st kilt in the mail.

I haven’t received my sporran, buckle or broach yet, but I was too excited and had to share. I’ll be looking for help in the future with other purchases. Hope this subreddit is cool and can help me.

Edit: Thank you all the people who have sent me love and advice (I will pull the kilt up so that it is not so low). The sporran comes in a few days.
