The Burnham Question.
Jimmy (who is fantastic) and a supporter of the Greens has argued that it’s advantageous for the Greens to stand aside in Makerfield but on the condition that if Burnham becomes PM, he delivers proportional representation and possibly some form a wealth tax.
He argues that if Andy gets in and he lies, then the Greens can damage Labour further by calling them liars (which would be correct).
If Andy delivers, the Greens will tangibly benefit in 2029 with a lot more seats.
Standing down will also open up more money and energy for the Greater Manchester Mayoralty should he win.
I am a Labour member (who abhors Starmer) so I don’t want to sound like I’m talking down to another smaller party. I just think it’s mutually beneficial for both our parties for the Greens to not run in Makerfield, although I think it’s too late now.
